A neighbour called Dave

Does everyone know a Dave?
The Daves I know are middle aged (obviously because it was a popular name back then)
But they all seem to be on benefits, drive a motorbike of some sort , smoke weed and have a few vicious dogs.
What are your experiences of Daves?

David Attenborough! Does he count? Obviously I don’t know him personally but he’s definitely a Dave that isn’t one of those Daves 🤣

Pandimoanymum · 22/04/2025 02:29

Oh, just remembered I have a Dave next door. Yes he’s middle aged but no to all the other things. Works full time, no dogs, no motorbike. I don’t know if he smokes weed 🤣
Hes a nice neighbour, he mows my lawn for me.

.I bet it's a petrol lawnmower 😆

The Dave I know has a high-paying job, has never smoked anything and doesn't have a pet. He does however have a motorbike (plus three ordinary bikes and a car). In fact, I've known a few Daves and none of them have been on benefits or owned dogs.

Yes it is!
He doesn’t have a car or a motorbike, so it’s the only thing he can ‘drive’ 🤣

SharpOpalNewt · 22/04/2025 02:37

I don't recognise that stereotype of the name at all.

You must live in the country side 😆

The middle aged Daves I know are all very sensible, kind and industrious. Absolutely the opposite of the first post.

Maitri108 · 22/04/2025 02:47

Can't really relate. The only Dave I know lives in a cave, isn't on benefits but he has a motorbike.

But are they called "David" because that's different.

Oh, I did have to call the police on Next Door Dave once, not long after he and his wife moved in. I could hear them through the walls, he was shouting and then there were thumps and I heard her scream. So I got worried that he was getting violent. Police came very quickly and then they spent a long time in with them talking, and then an officer came into me to say that they were fine, Dave was just a bit drunk, but he was a bit shouty and knocking things over so they ‘persuaded’ him to go elsewhere for the rest of the night. Not sure if it was to the cells or to a relatives house but they carted him off.
Anf then the next morning 2 police cars turned up and they started knocking all the neighbour’s doors and asking them if they’d heard anything during the night! I was mortified, I only wanted them to check his wife was ok, and now all the neighbours would know and it was my fault 😩
It’s a wonder he mows my lawn after that. I’ve never heard him act up like that since, and I did explain to his wife that I just wanted to know she was ok and I didn’t want him carted off to a cell, or for all the neighbours to find out, and she was very nice about it. She said “oh, I can handle him” 🤣

Middle-aged neighbour Dave drives a car, doesn't smoke weed and has a job. Has a couple of non-vicious dogs that he hasn't trained and doesn't walk and can't understand why they don't do what he wants and are bouncing off the walls. Apparently a bit of a lazy git at work and doesn't lift a finger at home, but acts like he is top dog, wants his own way and frequently gets things wrong that his wife has to clear up. He's a bit of a bully. I know all this through friends, family, coworkers and his wife, when she's being indiscreet, as well as what I have seen myself.

Have a family member named David who hates being called Dave.

There’s a Dave in a Cave?

powershowerforanhour · 22/04/2025 03:11

DaveInACave would be a great MN username. Or the next child's toy craze like the old Cabbage Patch dolls.

Mothership4two · 22/04/2025 03:17

Dave in a cave reminds me of soap on a rope (remember them?)

Toddlerteaplease · 22/04/2025 04:00

Yes, but neither of them middle aged.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 22/04/2025 04:04

Brother is Dave, daughters dad is Dave, I have an Uncle Dave and two cousin Daves, stepdad Dave so yeah !!

ArtemisiaTheArtist · 22/04/2025 04:12

One Dave I know is a relative. He's retired. He plays the guitar and has an allotment. He loves taking his GC on days out.

Another Dave I know is a part-time actor, is very funny, very tall and is in his fifties. If a casting director were to put Dave on telly, he'd be "gangland henchman" or "soldier" in a historical setting. Seriously, he's huge.

sesquipedalian · 22/04/2025 04:16

My DH is David, but he’s Dave at work. Same as my late DF. They are both the antithesis of the OP’s description of a “Dave”.

StartupRepair · 22/04/2025 04:17

DS (26) is Dave. He is kind, responsible, well educated, has a good job
Wherever we live DH and I have a neighbour called John. We have one on each side at the moment.

PrincessOfPreschool · 22/04/2025 04:22

We had a 2 year is Rave where I worked a couple of years ago. He was a 'character'.

My neighbour is Colin and so is my sister's neighbour. They are both very nice and love to look after cats!

TwinklyNight · 22/04/2025 04:34

I know/knrw two. One was a violent man that nobody misses (dead now) the other is a fine upstanding person.

LadyChillT · 22/04/2025 04:38

I know one Dave I work with sometimes, owns a motorbike, likes smoking fags and drinking beer, no dogs that I'm aware of. Cheeky old grandpa type. I knew another Dave at one point who enjoyed playing chess and made a living writing table quizzes and doing matched betting online.

nowahousewife · 22/04/2025 04:50

Know a Dave and a David. Both senior professionals, one runs ultra marathons, spends a lot of time in his garden and enjoys a beer while the other flies light aeroplanes and enjoys good wine in his spare time. Neither smoke but one does have a v sweet spaniel.
Both v nice decent people.
