A) You are Hungry.

B) You know if you don’t eat first thing, you will be hungry later in the Morning?

Need an option C, I don't eat until I'm hungry, which can be anytime between 12 and 3pm. I very occasionally have a banana mid morning.
When I worked in healthcare my eating got very disordered as I was scared I'd get hungry and maybe my break would be late. So I ate even when not hungry, and I'd still get hungry at my normal time.
I ate my breakfast during handover, a 2nd meal of what was left after patients breakfast, a snack during my morning and afternoon tea breaks (something like a cake or chocolate bar that I could scoff quickly), lunch plus dinner when I got home.
My days off I just ate when hungry.

DissDissOrDiss · 16/04/2025 09:03

Woke up at 5.30 and made a pot of coffee. Sorted house, life stuff, showered etc and then had breakfast at 8. Was very very hungry by that point.

I think trying some sort of intermittent fasting can be interesting to see how your body responds. One of the things I learned when I did 5:2 for a while was that, to my surprise, I was less hungry the morning after a ‘fast’ day - I could exercise and go for a walk fasted. I also learned not to fear being hungry. We talk about being ‘starving’ but of course (unless you’ve got anorexia or a medical problem), we aren’t. I’m carrying plenty of energy with me!

Pigeonqueen · 16/04/2025 09:30

I eat it because I love breakfast and it’s my favourite meal of the day. I also need to eat something first thing because I take a lot of medication and they can’t be taken on an empty stomach. I get up around 6.30 and have breakfast at 7.30, either toast, porridge or pancakes…!

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 16/04/2025 09:38

I eat breakfast mid morning - around a third of my calories for the day and high in protein. I'm overweight and trying to lose weight. It's working so far. I've found it better to eat a substantial breakfast and lighter lunch then a normal dinner in terms of managing hunger and I don't feel deprived. I'm less likely to want to snack later in the day.

Octavia64 · 16/04/2025 09:40

I’m bloody hungry when I wake up.

you do need an option c though, need to eat to take medication,

I have a load of meds that I take with breakfast and a couple of them are take with food so I do need to eat.

thecatneuterer · 16/04/2025 09:41

I don't eat breakfast. It takes a few hours to start to feel hungry. And any time I do eat breakfast (for example when staying at hotels) then I feel much, much more hungry later in the morning than I would if I hadn't had it.

Natsku · 16/04/2025 09:45

I'm not hungry in the mornings usually but sometimes I need to eat a little something salty after I take my medicine because it sometimes makes me nauseous.

If I get hungry in the morning at work I eat my yoghurt at morning tea break, otherwise I wait until lunch.

Arancia · 16/04/2025 10:05

I'm a massive morning and breakfast person, and love to eat a solid, filling breakfast every day - and I like to take my time making and eating my breakfast. I'm always hungry in the morning, because

  1. I don't eat lunch (breakfast keeps me full until dinner)
  2. I'm not a snacker, so I don't eat snacks throughout the day
  3. I eat dinner pretty early (around 16:30 - 17:00)
henlake7 · 16/04/2025 10:49

A and B. Sometimes I'm hungry and if I'm not I know I will be shortly!
I don't need much to keep me happy til lunch though, usually its just a shredded wheat with some prunes.

ForOliveMember · 16/04/2025 10:53

I'm hungry when I wake up as I eat my evening meal around 5pm and don't eat after that. If I am not hungry when I wake up it's because I ate too much /too late the previous day.

Almostwelsh · 16/04/2025 10:55

I don't eat breakfast. I don't eat anything before lunch and I don't feel hungry until just before lunchtime.

On the odd occasion I do eat before lunchtime I find I feel hungrier before lunch than if I had eaten nothing, unless the breakfast has substantial protein content, such as bacon and eggs with baked beans. This tends to only happen when staying in a hotel with breakfast included.

If I do have a high protein breakfast I tend to skip lunch instead.

Sofiewoo · 16/04/2025 09:00

What’s wrong with just eating when you’re hungry though?

Absolutely nothing at all, but i don’t have the luxury of eating during Work hours.

I was always a breakfast person but have been doing intermittent fasting since January and now don't eat until lunch. Apart from a very difficult first two weeks, I love this. I'm feeling a lot less hungry in the morning now then I was when eating breakfast and not desperate for food by the time lunch comes round.

BigDahliaFan · 16/04/2025 10:59

I've thought about this - it's generally B but because I'm worried I'll get hungry later. But tbh if I didn't eat breakfast I could probably last till lunchtime most days. But I think I'd eat more later....

Some days I wake up starving and if I don't eat there's ructions.

My DH gets mega hangry if he hasn't eaten by 9.

EmotionallyWeird · 16/04/2025 11:00

A bit of both, I think.

Pesk17 · 16/04/2025 11:02

I can happily not each breakfast but then find I need more calories over the working day, getting very hungry around half 4 when I'm trying to concentrate and get my last lot of jobs done. I find it easier to eat breakfast than have to pack more food for work.

BiddyPopthe2nd · 16/04/2025 18:32

I need fuel as I often don’t get to get anything else until late afternoon or even well into the evening. So I have lemon juice, ginger, honey in hot water to start. A glass of smoothie (oats, yoghurt, almond butter, seeds, red berries, apple juice). Coffee. Sometimes more solid food as well but not often midweek.

Delatron · 16/04/2025 18:38

Kind of both. But also I normally exercise, walk the dog and have an active job so existing on fresh air is
not an option.

I also understand that for women of perimenopausal age it’s really important to have some fuel for exercise. It’s a good opportunity to get some protein and fibre down me.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 17/04/2025 00:09

Everyone’s metabolism is different
I have never eaten breakfast( except when pregnant) and don’t eat lunch either
Happy and healthy on one meal a day.
I’m disabled and can’t walk far, so obviously it’s enough calories for me. BM1 21.5

Namechangedforspooky · 17/04/2025 00:13

Neither. I can’t be bothered with breakfast unless I’m planning to exercise in which case I make myself.
otherwise it’s just 2 cups of coffee then a mid morning snack
My eldest dd is the same bar the coffee

highlandsake · 16/04/2025 10:57

Absolutely nothing at all, but i don’t have the luxury of eating during Work hours.

Do you not get a break in the morning? I know it's not always possible but, in an ideal world, I'd have breakfast between about 10 and 11, a decent, hot lunch between 1 and 2 and something light between 6 and 7.

So I really try to stick to this as much as possible and if I have to go out, I'll take food with me I can eat later.

Could you at least take food with you to eat before you start work or make a protein smoothie you can drink?

bettydavieseyes · 17/04/2025 05:09

I dont eat breakfast and I don't like breakfast food. On the rare occasions ive eaten breakfast (holidays/hotels) i cant eat lunch and im hungry at 3pm. I get hungry anytime from 11-1pm and eat then. I don't have a problem eating lunch at 11 if I'm hungry that day. If I'm hungry earlier than 11 I have a piece of fruit and wait.
I find I'm hungry in the morning if I've had a late night snack so I don't tend to eat after 8pm.

jellyfishperiwinkle · 17/04/2025 05:13

If you get hungry about 11, have brunch instead. I quite often just eat brunch and dinner.

AleaEim · 17/04/2025 05:19

I wake up hungry and need breakfast before I even begin to think about doing anything else. I have two breakfasts sometimes, depends on how early I wake.
