A) You are Hungry.

B) You know if you don’t eat first thing, you will be hungry later in the Morning?

B)

I rarely feel hunger. I could go days without eating and it wouldn’t bother me. But my BMI is fairly low so I just eat three times a day breakfast, lunch and dinner. Otherwise if I waited until hungry I would get in the habit of only eating once and loose too much weight

Vettrianofan · 17/04/2025 07:54

A

HÆLTHEPAIN · 17/04/2025 07:55

C - I could go until about 1/2 o’clock without eating from a feeling hungry in my stomach perspective. But if I don’t have something I end up headachey and nauseous. I usually have something about 9:30.

If you eat three meals a day and several snacks what are you eating that is so low in calories to support that amount of regular food? Perhaps your meals are tiny and so low in calories that you need to keep going back, grazing because you are never properly satiated. Whereas if your meals were bigger and more substantial you would need fewer of them?

Edited

I don't have tiny, or low calorie meals now, I just seem to be hungry a lot! Blush

Neither, I don't eat breakfast. I have been intermittent fasting since July last year and one of the best things it has done for me is it stopped me eating because the clock told me it was a meal time. I do think the psychology of eating when you are not hungry or eating because you fear being hungry later is problematic. I used to do that and it is what contributed to my weight issues.

If you're not hungry in the morning but get hungry around 11am why not have a banana then, or just brunch and dinner? I am happy having my lunch at 11am if I'm hungry by then, or 3pm if that's when my body tells me it needs food.

I was obese with a BMI of almost 35 when I started intermittent fasting. I would have never thought I could go 16 hours only on water and black coffee but within two weeks it was easy. My insulin is more stable and therefore I don't get hungry in the mornings because I'm not spiking my blood sugar. My digestion is better because I'm giving my system a proper break from food every day.

It's a very individual thing though. Some people need to eat to fuel exercise, or they will snack more later on if they skip meals and three meals a day stops the snacks. But if you're not hungry in the mornings naturally intermittent fasting could be worth a go.

C) I don't eat breakfast as I do intermittent fasting. I worked out I was just as hungry by 11ish regardless, unless I had a massive breakfast e.g. eggs. So now I have early lunch.

Ilovelowry · 17/04/2025 08:02

I eat it because it's my favourite meal of the day.

I'm hungry, I wake up, work out, I've walked the dogs and now I'm digging in. I try to have a large part of my daily fibre and protein at breakfast. I also love lunch. But I couldn't care less about dinner. By 5pm my appetite is gone and I'm tired rather than hungry.

BertieBotts · 17/04/2025 08:05

Sometimes A, mostly C: because I take medication that benefits from being taken on a full stomach.

If it was up to me I'd have coffee and a cigarette. Best breakfast 😁 (I no longer smoke sadly)

Mel Robbins podcast was talking recently about the importance of women eating as soon as we wake up.

cortisol levels in women peak first thing apparently, and eating something can lower them. We’re not hungry because stress levels are high.

no idea whether it’s actually true but it makes sense, so I’ve been trying to make myself have breakfast

This is true yes. Which is why I make sure I eat within 30 minutes of waking.

Also cortisol levels are higher anyway in perimenopausal women so even more important at a certain age. For men I would say it’s less important and they do better with fasting.

PoppyBaxter · 17/04/2025 08:13

I eat it because I'm starving, and I'm currently trying to eat a certain amount of protein, that I couldn't cram into only 2 meals.

I've always typically eaten light the night before, so I'm ready for food the next morning.

If we've had an Indian takeaway or something like that at the weekend, I'll skip breakfast the next day.

SallyWD · 17/04/2025 08:14

I tend to eat brunch rather than breakfast as I'm not hungry when I wake up.

WibblyWobblyLane · 17/04/2025 08:16

It's basically an act of charity. Even if I'm not hungry, I'm a crabby bitch if I don't have breakfast

Auburngal · 17/04/2025 08:16

I eat breakfast as if I don't eat within an hour of waking up, I feel dizzy and sick. On holiday, I have biscuits or similar as don't go down to the breakfast until I am ready/

Overhaul54 · 17/04/2025 08:19

I don’t have breakfast when I’m working. Nothing until 12.30.

On days off I might have something because I generally eat quite early the evening before. I’m off to make eggs and bacon now, starving.

ICanTellYouMissMe · 17/04/2025 08:20

I don’t. Nobody in our house does!

SnoozingFox · 17/04/2025 08:21

I don't eat breakfast. I have never been hungry first thing in the morning, get up at 7.30 and have coffee and don't start feeling hungry until about 11.30 or 12 so I have "breakfast" then.

We're all different.

I very rarely eat breakfast, I don’t like typical breakfast foods and when I’ve followed various diet plans involving porridge or fruit for breakfast I am really hungry by about 10:30 which seems counterproductive to me.
I skip breakfast and eat a big earlyish lunch I can have a small dinner at around 4:30/5 and am fine for the day.
My appetite and metabolism are fried though. I really struggle to lose weight despite not eating many calories. DH is convinced the lack of breakfast is part of the reason but everyone says it’s just a case of eat less move more so I don’t see how adding more food would help.

unsync · 17/04/2025 08:50

Neither. I have breakfast because I exercise in the morning. I have to eat or I don't have enough energy to do so.

Doitrightnow · 17/04/2025 08:51

Gundogday · 16/04/2025 08:30

Both, plus if I don’t i’ll pass out by mid morning, plus it’s also a habit

This. I it used to skip breakfast as a lazy teenager but I ended up fainting a lot.

sashh · 17/04/2025 09:03

C I need to eat to take some medication

jay55 · 17/04/2025 09:03

I eat breakfast if I’m hungry. I’m on weight loss jabs so only usually on weekends.

I agree with your DH. Restricting food this much has messed up your metabolism.

I would say eat more (in a healthy way).

You know what people eat for breakfast changes around the world? Millions of people have rice and fish for breakfast.

Half of Europe eat ham and cheese for breakfast.

I realise that doesn't help with your metabolic issues and if you just don't want to eat on a morning then that's up to you.

Delatron · 17/04/2025 09:22

If I ate porridge and fruit then I probably would be hungry by 10.30. I tend to have a few eggs on toast/ Greek yoghurt plus nuts and granola. Something protein heavy would fill me up until about 1pm.
