God bless Senator van Hollen.

I hadn't thought about Kilmar's safety in that horrible place or if when he is released from custody.

If I was him, and I know it would be hard to start over again (again), but I think I'd try to be released to a different country and have his family join him there. Maybe Canada, Mexico, or Spain or another primarily Spanish or English speaking country.

He's simply not going to be safe here. Or at the very least he won't be able to live a peaceful life.

I just think if he’s ever released he won’t be the same person. You can’t go through that without significant mental trauma at the very least.

DuncinToffee · 16/04/2025 14:37

The White House has kicked global wire services Reuters and Bloomberg out of the permanent press pool. Trump isn’t keen on scrutiny.

Being cynical, it would be great PR for Canada to give him asylum. And a great FU to Trump.

Being kind, it would be a lovely sign of Canada trying to be the moral 'leader' of the free world as Carney seems to want. America has epically failed at being that for decades.

But I wonder if he will survive. 'Cruel and unusual' are just words now. Along with the rest of the Constitution.

That was part of my thinking, too. Along with emphasizing that the US is no longer the 'shining city on the hill' that people should be rushing to immigrate to and other countries should emulate. In truth, we are now quite the opposite of that.

The few Republican Town Halls actually going ahead are not going well. People are angry.

I don't know why they don't just have Barbarous Barbie asking herself questions from now on.

This video is very, very disturbing. A clear case of US pot calling UK kettle black on free speech restrictions in the UK.

I agree. Good for Chris van Hollen. I hope he's got a tv crew with him.

Yeah, they're trying to get out of the court ruling on letting the AP back in by saying no wire services. I guess it will go back to court. They's so scummy.

On that note, the press needs to stop talking about deportations and start calling them what they are - renditions and kidnappings.

Maryland Senator Chris van Hollen

I’m about to board my flight to El Salvador, where I hope to meet with senior government officials to discuss the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

I also hope to see Kilmar and check on his condition — and remind him that we won’t stop fighting until he’s home.

From the comments :

Google faces many anti-monopoly cases in countries which six months ago would have turned a blind eye to their abuse.

I wonder why

Tell ya what....there are some teeny tiny 'spy cams' out there. I'd be trying my hardest to find a place to hide one.

And if that's a crime in El Salvador, oh well too bad. He'll be back in the US.

Wallaw · 16/04/2025 18:16

@SerendipityJane A congressman. Leo Ryan. Others were injured, I believe.

@AcrossthePond55 I think they'll deny him access, so I hope there are outside parties with him recording all of it.

It was CA State Rep Leo Ryan. He was a damn fine human being.

I think this means we’ve developed time travel. Possibly.

I have a few requests if so.

Can I add a stop to undo Ed Miliband beating out David for the Labour Party candidate?

RafaistheKingofClay · 16/04/2025 19:13

Will a few months before do. We need to go back to at least pre Brexit referendum.

Ah a simpler time. I’d want people to retain the memory of how badly they fucked up though so we don’t just repeat it.

Ooh, good point. Yes! Maybe we could edge back a tad further and boot Ralph Nader and fix up those Florida voting machines in 2000.

What a different place this world would be, if only we could undo a few crucial moments.
