I’ll start

Supersize Me. When it came out so many people told me I’d never want a McDonald’s again. I went out straight away the next morning to get a bacon and egg McMuffin and enjoyed every last bite.

Beaches. I watched it with my Uni flatmate who told me I would cry my eyes out. I kept waiting for the sad bit as she snot cried the whole way through 🫢

Perms 😂 they really were very popular weren’t they. Only about 4 women in the world looked good with them. The rest looked like Leo Sayer. My mum had a permed fringe!

Ra ra skirts, jelly shoes 😂😂😂 neither were very comfortable for me in the 80's!!! Frankie says relax t shirt....🙄

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/04/2025 18:38

The enduring love for Ant and Dec and their constant winning of awards mystifies me

Sex And the City completely passed me by

BeaAndBen · 15/04/2025 18:41

Strictly, IACGMOOH, the various talent shows, Traitors. Cannot be arsed.

SwanOfThoseThings · 15/04/2025 18:41

Leo had some pipes

Absolutely loads of massively popular tv shows, including all incarnations of reality tv, all competitive singing/dancing/entertainment act shows and also period drama series.

SkibbidiSigma · 15/04/2025 18:44

Pretty much everything tbh. I'm struggling to think of something that has affected me. Going to annoy myself until I think of something now 😂

LaurieFairyCake · 15/04/2025 18:46

All reality tv, I never watch any of it.

i watched the first series of Big Brother, liked it as it was innovative but had my fill with one series.

I can’t imagine watching that Naked show where people get their cock out to get dates. I just <words fail me> Confused

the80sweregreat · 15/04/2025 18:49

As you age, you realize that a lot of things are just hype and not much more ( or clever marketing )

Violashifts · 15/04/2025 18:54

Crocs. Never nope.

Gundogday · 15/04/2025 18:55

Binge watching tv series.

Honon · 15/04/2025 18:56

The high quality but lengthy TV series that have come out of the streaming revolution. Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Sopranos etc. I just can't get into any of them and whilst I do stream some tv I often just watch whatever is on terrestrial.

Screamingabdabz · 15/04/2025 19:00

Facebook
Hinch
Prosecco and Gin hype
Bake Off/Strictly/BGT
Gender reveals/ cake smashes/ elf on shelf/ going abroad for hen dos and stag dos
Anything done for social media rather than its intrinsic value
Pronoun bollocks

Soonenough · 15/04/2025 19:00

Anything that is labeled Spectacular, All Star , Extravaganza, etc. Beyonce , Bond Movies , Harry Potter , Great British Anything ,
Grumpy old Git , me .

JandamiHash · 15/04/2025 19:00

Killing Eve. There were some v funny moments mostly from Fiona Shaw but I stopped watching the moment a grown man was running through an office screaming his head off at Jodie Comer, who must be about 6 stone wet through, brandishing a pen knife 🙄 i just don’t think she was scary enough to render a load of grown man shit scared

I'm not sure my answers are what you mean as I suppose all of these things have had an effect on me, in that I either dislike them or have no interest in them.

Reality TV shows
Cooking shows
Anything fantasy or Sci-fi
Most of the popular music since about 1980 (except Beyoncé)
The Archers since about 1995
Big handbags / designer handbags
Grey interiors
Package holidays
Urban SUVs
Instagram/TikTok
Boozy brunches
Phone-in radio shows
Woman's Hour since Jenni Murray was slammed for saying transwomen weren't real women.

Yes. I mean, I’m sure they’re good, but I can’t commit to something that lengthy.

SpottedDonkey · 15/04/2025 19:09

Talent shows. X factor, Britain’s got talent etc. Don’t watch them. Never did. Zero interest.

Any TV show with the word ‘celebrity’ in the title. Ditto.

Soaps. Ditto.

Social media. I don’t use facebook, Instagram, Snapchat etc etc. Admittedly, I was already an adult when the internet was invented, which probably accounts for my lack of interest. I accept that it’s a different situation for those who grew up with it.

unlikelywitch · 15/04/2025 19:11

Fleabag. Everyone raved about it but I was utterly unmoved. Bridget Jones, also.

I would’ve said Game of Thrones as well but I guess it was the bonkers level of hype around it that had no effect on me as I’ve never had any notion to watch it.

TheAmusedQuail · 15/04/2025 19:20

Lord of the Rings. Books are dull as ditchwater so why would the films be any better?

Harry Potter. Badly written kids tosh. SO MANY other better kids books out there.

Tiered skirts. Ugly as fcuk. NO idea why anyone likes them.

Britains Got Talent. No, it really hasn't. It's got a bunch of sad attention seekers. And that includes the judges.

Pizza. It's bread and cheese with tomato sauce. Bleuch.

Take away food. Tastes like crap 95% of the time.

unsync · 15/04/2025 19:58

Reality TV. Absolute load of shite engineered for the attention of the slack jawed wannabees. I think the programme makers sat down and thought of which weird 'beauty' trend could they popularise - slug eyebrows, trout pouts, orange tans and fake lashes being a case in point. Someone, somewhere was pissing themselves laughing at the uptake.

Beryl23 · 15/04/2025 20:20

Violashifts · 15/04/2025 18:54

Crocs. Never nope.

I used to say this and then towards the end of my pregnancy I literally couldn’t fit my feet in any shoes and was walking the dog in my Birkenstock sandals in November as they were the only shoes I could just about fit on my feet 🤦‍♀️ Everybody kept saying get some crocs and I held off as long as possible but finally gave in. And I’m not ashamed to say I still wear them now even though they’re a size too big.

Never got into reality shows like Made in Chelsea etc.
