I’ll start

Supersize Me. When it came out so many people told me I’d never want a McDonald’s again. I went out straight away the next morning to get a bacon and egg McMuffin and enjoyed every last bite.

Beaches. I watched it with my Uni flatmate who told me I would cry my eyes out. I kept waiting for the sad bit as she snot cried the whole way through 🫢

Absolutely loads of massively popular tv shows, including all incarnations of reality tv, all competitive singing/dancing/entertainment act shows and also period drama series.

Plus Facebook/Instagram/Snapchat. EastEnders and any other soap series. Shows where eg Gordon Ramsay comes and fixes things.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/04/2025 20:32

Tik -Tok
Any reality shows
The trend for overdone fake eyelashes and lip fillers

CeeJay81 · 15/04/2025 20:36

Most reality tv shows.
Most music from last 20 years
Lip fillers/Botox
Tik tok

Labelled handbags. No idea why these are better than any well stitched leather bag from a high street store ( or charity shop).

Make up. Seems like a massive faff and something else to worry about .

Bubble tea and actually tea full stop.

Going out for coffee and cake. I have coffee at home. I do not have a beer pump at home so that’s why I like a pint of bitter as a treat.

Football. Boring game especially compared to rugby.

I discovered a few years ago that I'd been alive when Princess Diana died.

I was aware it had been a big thing, so presumed it was before I was born or tiny, as I had no memory of it at all. It turns out my family were just spectacularly disinterested and I'd not noticed. Which is odd, because I have many memories of big national and political things from around then. Even overseas conflicts from the time - but her death? Nada. Completely bypassed me. Which is sort of fair, I'd been a child. It by passed me until firmly in my 30s though... It often surprises me now, that I hadn't known about it. I should have realised as I'm the same age as Prince William.

😮 I’m 43, so almost the same age as you and I don’t know how you could possibly have missed it! The TV coverage was constant, Elton John’s version of Candle in the Wind was top of the charts for five weeks, it was on the front page of all the papers and everyone seemed to be talking about it.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/04/2025 21:21

I’m shocked by the Princess Di thing too, it was wall to wall media coverage!

IsItWickedNotToCare · 15/04/2025 21:21

I always hated 'Friends' and the theme tune makes me feel sick, no idea why!

the80sweregreat · 15/04/2025 21:22

Friends is tosh.

GoodVibesHere · 15/04/2025 21:25

Pulp Fiction. Absolutely crap and boring.

heartsinvisiblefury · 15/04/2025 21:42

Friends
Harry Potter
Disney

My minor claim to unusual status is that I appear to be the only person never to have seen a single episode of Friends.

PyrannosaurusRex · 15/04/2025 21:58

Fake tans. Never even owned so much as a bronzer.

Shit dancing we are expected to believe is iconic as well, do me a favour!

Erm... most things! I suppose that this is a bonus of living in the middle of nowhere, where takeaways do not get delivered, and internet and phone signal can be interesting concepts at times. I also grew up in an area where TV signal was weather-dependent (in the days of satellite dishes), and the most reliable channel was in a language that we didn't understand. Thus, we spent a lot of rainy days playing board games and reading. I am yet to understand how my sibling ever became one of the cool kids, because I certainly wasn't 😁

As a result, I never really got into TV and people look at me like I've got three heads because I don't own, or intend to buy, one.

Also, I don't like tea. I don't like the smell of it and certainly don't like the taste. Even my own mother questioned my British credentials, and if I was her own child, about that!

BasiliskStare · 15/04/2025 22:05

The Wire

FionnulaTheCooler · 15/04/2025 22:13

Game of Thrones. Didn't fancy it when it first started due to the violence in it, I'm a bit squeamish with blood and gore. Briefly considered starting it a few series in when everyone was raving about it but then it ended and everyone whinged about how shit the ending was so I doubt I'll ever bother with it now.

Actually it was meant to be like that. Tarantino has talked widely about it. Travolta was made famous for dancing in Saturday Night Fever and Tarantino got them to dance how ordinary people dance (staring into the distance, slightly wooden and with holey sock) the juxtaposition from 70s disco glam to gritty 90s is why it’s iconic.

Redheadedstepchild · 15/04/2025 22:19

Recently, Baby Reindeer and Adolescence. If only I could work up a Netflix script called "Teenage Elk" or something similar which blended the two over hyped ideas into a smash outrage blockbuster hit and make a fortune.

coxesorangepippin · 15/04/2025 22:20

AI doll rage

I mean, come on, it's a glorified emoji

The enduring love for Ant and Dec and their constant winning of awards mystifies me

Sex And the City completely passed me by

Yes! Yes! Yes! Glad it’s not only me..

coxesorangepippin · 15/04/2025 22:21

50 shades of grey too

coxesorangepippin · 15/04/2025 22:22

I do not know how anyone could have been living in the UK, over the age of about ten and not known about Diana's death

It was everywhere, forever

Toucanfusingforme · 15/04/2025 22:26

Cutesy avatars of people on Facebook etc. Makes me want to puke, seeing middle aged /elderly people representing themselves as cute cartoons.
Also - awful words like hollibobs, famalam, Chrimbo etc.
Then there’s the obsession with trying to look younger, reality tv, the celebration of the mediocre………don’t get me started!😄

On the Sunday morning that day I came downstairs and DH was reading the papers in the kitchen. He said not a word. It was only when I put the radio on that I realised what had happened. DH had 2 newspapers with the story huge on the front pages , but he reads the papers from back to front because of the sport . So yes it did not pass him by after that , but he managed to get to the newsagents and back, read the back pages of 2 newspapers and have 2 coffees before he found out 😀
