Tap Water, at home do you drink it, or have bottled?

Ours tastes a bit chloriney and not nice.
Am thinking to either :

get a water filter...would this help?
Or just drink bottled water

What do you drink?

Drink it. The water is very good here, ideal for tea as well

Misfiteverywhere · 06/04/2025 12:46

Drink it

LegalAlienated · 06/04/2025 12:48

Plastic bottled water should be banned.

Drink it, but also buy sparkling.

babasaclover · 06/04/2025 12:48

Bottled. Ours stinks of chlorine and makes me gag. It’s also very hard.

Topseyt123 · 06/04/2025 12:48

Just drink it. No need for bottled water, and all that plastic is terrible for the environment.

HashtagShitShop · 06/04/2025 12:49

My kitchen cold tap didn't work for a good 18m despite several attempts at mending it it only returned as a trickle so during that time it was bottled water for everything needed cold wise from there but thankfully now it's mended we are back to tap water.

Stichintime · 06/04/2025 12:49

Drink it. I find people who buy bottled water to have at home often come from countries where tap water is not considered safe. I have one friend who actually fills the kettle with bottled water. I think that's bonkers, but it's totally ingrained in her.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 06/04/2025 12:50

We drink tap water at home, and take it to school and work in reusable water bottles.

we all need to be minimising our use of plastics and this us a really easy way to do that. Filter it if you really feel the need to.,

Very much agree. Tap water is fine in the UK unless told otherwise by your water company if they have a problem.

SummerIce · 06/04/2025 12:50

We have bottled water. We live in a hard water area and have lead pipes. We plan to change the pipes and install a filter when we redo the kitchen but until then, it’s bottled.

BeaAndBen · 06/04/2025 12:50

Drink it. Practically by the pint, our water is great.

London tap water always tastes revolting, I don’t know what the hell they do to it. When visiting friends in London, it’s always with a filter.

Theunamedcat · 06/04/2025 12:51

If it doesn't taste nice get a filter see if that helps

GrandTheftWalrus · 06/04/2025 12:51

I live in Scotland. Best tap water in the world.

My Dad bought a soda stream and he hasn’t needed bottled fizzy water for 3 years. He’s delighted with the lack of plastic, and thinks it paid for itself in the first 2 years. So that’s always an option

LikeABat · 06/04/2025 12:53

Drink it. You could fill a jug and leave it in the fridge so the chlorine evaporates out.

We live in London. The tap water in Scotland is something else! Shows me how bad our tap water is.

GreenCandleWax · 06/04/2025 12:54

Trouble is most if not all filter water jugs are plastic, like the bottles. But at least you can put filtered tap water straight into the fridge (I am assuming here that plastic containers kept cold are less of a problem than warm ones). Probably the best solution would be to have an under-the-sink water filter, though they are quite expensive to install.

Peridot1 · 06/04/2025 12:54

it took a while for use to get used to the water in this house when we moved as it wasn’t as nice is in our previous area. I filter it. Have a filter kettle too as it’s a very hard water area.

We had a soda stream for while as DS was into fizzy water so I still have the bottles. I filter tap water and fill the soda stream bottles and keep them in the fridge. It makes a big difference to the taste.

This.

Coffeeishot · 06/04/2025 12:56

Our drinking water is very good here, very occasionally it does smell" chlorieny" but it seems to go when you leave the tap running a bit.

You've tasted all tap waters in the world?

Yes! And to add hard water is a good source of calcium.

ohtowinthelottery · 06/04/2025 13:03

Our tap water isn't great but if I fill a glass water bottle (the sort you get in restaurants) and put it in the fridge and use that then it's fine - as long as you don't leave it standing for too long.
