She’s really lovely. Very dangerous indeed. I’d have to harden my heart.

cardibach · 05/04/2025 09:33

I get through by knowing I’m doing good for them walking them and helping them stay calm enough/regain their calm round people so that they can be rehomed. I love it when they are adopted! Even though I miss some of them.

itsgettingweird · 05/04/2025 09:35

It’s an amazing thing to do cardi and I’m sure the dogs enjoy your live as much as you enjoy theirs

How bad are Trump’s tariffs?

See the whole thing here:

Tariffs are an irrelevance at this point. There is no going back to where we came from.

The US in 2025 isn't the US of 1945. It's ploughing it's own furrow and has to be left to that. (It's not "America first", it's "America only").

Global economics have changed irreparably. Any and all effort should now go into moving to the new world order as quickly as possible. We really shouldn't be trying to reshoe a horse as the automobile age dawns.

And as the world economy transforms, it will naturally reshape defence strategies.

However in a country and message board that seemingly refuses to accept the High Street died years ago, I fear we will see fucktonnes of money trying to prop up a future which doesn't exist.

SerendipityJane · 05/04/2025 16:18

Total aside, but (once I stopped laughing) got ChatGPT to comment on an awesome AI fail from YouTube (which is now auto generating captions for thumbnails, so that's a universe of fail in the making).

Quite impressed that ChatGPT actually spotted the fail, and ended the analysis with:

"!Want me to rewrite this as a funny tweet or snarky Reddit comment? 😀"

Which explains a lot.

Yes - it added the smiley too.

Just listened to The Rest Is Politics emergency tariffs episode on the way to and from orchestra. It’s very good at explaining possible effects.

I believe it is possible to overthink this. In much the same way as discussing the effects possible effects those rocks we are headed straight for could have on our boat.

Myself ? Might be an idea to change course while we are discussing it. Or have we learned nothing ?

cardibach · 05/04/2025 17:54

One of the points they made was that we don’t know what will happen as it’s not something modelling can handle. Was very interesting.

Labour MP Dan Norris arrested on suspicion of rape and child sex offences

The MP for North East Somerset and Hanham, has immediately been suspended by the Labour Party.

Oh God. That is appalling.

itsgettingweird · 05/04/2025 19:40

Just read that and came here to say about.

what is wrong with these people

dapsnotplimsolls · 05/04/2025 19:41

Former teacher and child protection officer. WTAF.

dapsnotplimsolls · 05/04/2025 19:41

Former teacher and child protection officer. WTAF.

Was just going to say that. Perfect jobs for access to kids. Sickening.

Cheguevarahamster · 05/04/2025 19:44

Bloody hell that's appalling.

Notonthestairs · 05/04/2025 19:53

Horrendous. He was an MP from 1997-2010. Councillor before that.

BIossomtoes · 05/04/2025 19:53

I just read it too. Absolutely appalling. Sometimes I despair of men.

He’s a sitting MP, isn’t he?

BIossomtoes · 05/04/2025 19:54

Yes, took over from JRM.

DuncinToffee · 05/04/2025 20:01

He has the whip suspended so won't be sitting as a MP in the Commons

Horrific

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 05/04/2025 20:20

It is horrific.

But I’m pleased to see no dithering over suspending him.

No one who commits a heinous crime should be allowed anywhere representing the people of this country.

Notonthestairs · 05/04/2025 20:36

I referred to his earlier period as an MP as some of the allegations appear to stem from that period.
Not that I suppose it matters when so much as that they happened at all.

Im just sick of reading of these headlines whether it’s Brand or politicians or whoever.
(yes, I acknowledge its still allegations rather than proven etc.)

PickAChew · 05/04/2025 20:56

dapsnotplimsolls · 05/04/2025 19:41

Former teacher and child protection officer. WTAF.

Oh, crikey. There will be a lot of horrified and anxious parents, having seen that in the news.

PickAChew · 05/04/2025 20:58

Doesn't having the whip suspended just mean that he is no longer sitting as a Labour MP? Or has he been suspended as an MP entirely?

Not a Labour MP.
