Small glimmers of happiness- what are yours?

I'm interested in the little things, maybe seemingly insignificant things that bring joy to your life. Lately I've been thinking about the notion of finding happiness in everyday life to avoid things seeming mundane when I have no big events like holidays coming up. For example- the first page of a new book, growing herbs, a coffee in the garden... What little things bring you joy- I'd love to know, no matter how small.

Daffodils - the older I get, the more I understand what Wordsworth meant about the uplifting magic of daffodils. They're so bright and cheerful, and reappear year on year, dividing and multiplying, and just getting on with it, in a way other, more diva-ish, flowers refuse to do. Like sunshine, in the months when you most need it.

Cherry blossom, making bread, watching ds sleep, home made veggie soup, watching the dawn.

flapjackfairy · 25/03/2025 17:05

i have taken to having my tea out of a nice teapot. It is a silly little thing but gives me a little burst of joy every time. Oh and a nice mug of course. Preferably a Christmas one . Again silly buy I like a bit of Christmas all year round as it is my favourite time of year. Simple pleasures!

Myoldbear · 25/03/2025 17:06

Writing real handwritten letters to my penfriend and receiving real letters back.

So in the old fashioned way I look forward to that plop on the doormat.

Spring025 · 25/03/2025 17:08

I saw the first frog of the year in my pond today. I couldn't stop going over and checking on him and talking to him 😂.

MrsPringledusts · 25/03/2025 17:55

Daffodils, Love them, but nothing beats the sheer pleasure from having a robin sitting on the shed every morning waiting for his mealworms! If I have the temerity to fill the kettle before doing that he flies onto the window box and looks in. Guilt tripped by robins!

EmeraldDreams73 · 25/03/2025 17:58

Cherry blossom on the tree in front of my house. It's about halfway out now and I'm spamming everyone with endless blossom photos.

TheLurpackYears · 25/03/2025 17:58

Birdsong and watching the wooded hillside across the road change colour through out the year.

Aparecium · 25/03/2025 18:01

I came home from work the other day and just sat in my car outside my house, car door open, listening to the birds and enjoying the mild afternoon warmth. Such a nice way to unwind.

Nail varnish or nail wraps. Especially glittery.

Having tidy hair - recently cut when it falls just right.

Finishing work on Friday with the whole weekend ahead, unsullied 🥰

Sourdoughandjam · 25/03/2025 18:06

Spring, daffodils, tulips, the sound of rivers or the sea lapping, my dog sleeping, washing on the line, the smell of cut grass, getting into bed at night.

ChillieChicky · 25/03/2025 18:07

Any sort of flower
birdsong
putting out bird feed in my garden
also sitting outside with a coffee
my house is really high up in the hills at the start of the Peak District and I like looking at all the lights in the distance it’s like a fairy land
the archers
cooking for people even mid week meals
a nice cup of tea

honestly I live a very happy life with all my glimmers

SunnieShine · 25/03/2025 18:10

Clean bedding. I love clean bedding day.

BeaAndBen · 25/03/2025 18:13

Early evening blackbird song - lifts my heart every time.

Fresh tulips in the downstairs toilet - it's cool in there so they last ages; every time I open the door I think "oh, how pretty"

Line dried bedding - if I am a bit fed up and have too much on to strip the whole bed I just give my pillowcases a quick wash and peg them out so that evening they will give me a little burst of happiness.

Drinking tea and coffee from the correct cups/mugs.

I've had a pretty pain-raddled ten years. Noticing small things is my survival tactic.

Echobelly · 25/03/2025 18:14

Buying some colourful flowers an having them in the house - always a bit of a treat.

Mindfulme3456 · 25/03/2025 18:34

Aw, these responses have been lovely to read through, so wholesome! 😊It’s my first post on here so wasn’t sure if it would be of interest. I’m not surprised to see nature features highly for many, especially this time of year. I agree that time to sit in the sun, a moment of peace with the tulips beginning to bloom is pretty wonderful. Xx

Woke up this morning to a blackbird singing his heart out in the tree near our window. So put extra birdfeed out for him at breakfast as he'll need to keep his strength up singing like that!

Tablefor4 · 25/03/2025 18:40

Cherry blossom.
Fairy lights in my garden. They're solar powered so when they come on I also know we've had some sunshine that day.
My daughters chatting and laughing with each other

NormasArse · 25/03/2025 18:41

Pretty much anything to do with my dogs.

Spring.

My son FaceTiming daily so I can talk to my one yr old grandson 🥰.

PeachPumpkin · 25/03/2025 18:43

Daffodils and clean bedding, as has been said already. A much wanted kindle book reducing to 99p. A bright sunny day to do the school run. The smell of freshly cut grass on that walk. Hot chocolate in winter. Christmas lights.

WingBingo · 25/03/2025 18:43

@BeaAndBen took me far too long to realise I can have a bit of the “fresh bedding night” joy midweek simply by doing this.

I’m a big believer in finding joy. It’s always the small things.

good coffee, fresh line dried bedding, cycling the long way to work to go by the river.

never saving things for best.

Devilsmommy · 25/03/2025 18:46

Watching the fascination on my toddlers face when he sees a 🐞 ladybird. And then watches it for ages😂

Vicliz24 · 25/03/2025 18:48

Definitely my garden year round . A run in nature ditto a dog walk . Hot chocolate in winter . A new book . Wool socks . A lovely candle. My family.

KnewYearKnewMe · 25/03/2025 18:49

Lovely thread, OP.

i like it when wash my hair and finally find 45 mins sitting on the bed straightening it.

it lasts for ages and makes me feel happy, both when I am doing it, and for days after 💕

CatsLikeBoxes · 25/03/2025 18:50

Nature: clear blue skies, flowers arriving in spring, bird song, that really fresh clean green of new leaves unfurling, especially against a blue sky. Frosty mornings. Snow. The beach. Beautiful views.

The smell of cakes, a good coffee.

Putting PJ's on when I come in. Clean bedding.

My boyfriend - he's so cheery I find myself automatically feeling equally cheery.

Lots more things I'm sure
