Small glimmers of happiness- what are yours?

I'm interested in the little things, maybe seemingly insignificant things that bring joy to your life. Lately I've been thinking about the notion of finding happiness in everyday life to avoid things seeming mundane when I have no big events like holidays coming up. For example- the first page of a new book, growing herbs, a coffee in the garden... What little things bring you joy- I'd love to know, no matter how small.

Waking up on a warm day with blue sky and the birds singling, having had a good restful sleep.

The stunning magnolia currently in bloom outside my office window.

Getting washing out in the garden to dry first thing in the morning.

Watching the nights get that bit lighter every evening.

The first coffee after the school run as I'm starting work.

I try and notice all the things we take for granted that are actually massively luxurious compared to most of human existence. Clean water on tap, clean soft beds etc. I’m very Pollyanna, but it’s served me well.

An unexpected hug
Fresh flowers inside my house
My family of blue tits and the deer in my garden
The sound of water from nearby stream
A clean car
New pjs
A real fire
A quiet day sitting in the sunshine after a busy working week - feels wonderful because of the contrast
Finding out it’s not cancer - I will find out on Monday

Good luck x

Driving home from work listening to Classic FM after enduring endless and totally boring woes from millennials. either that or i swear at them.

chickens. I love my chickens. They come to the door when they want something, jump on the windowsills, and love my sheep for company.

watching my kids play football. Been a football mum for 21 years and i still love it. From the 1st team when they had no idea how to kick a ball, to today playing in a high league.

Walking into my bathroom (hubby has his own) to find the cleaners have folded my toilet roll and threaded a beautiful flower 🌼 through its point. Massive smile and warm feeling

a really cute blue tit uses my stick on perspex window feeder BUT lets me know when it needs restocking by pecking on the window until I refresh it. Will also follow me around the house pecking on the window if im slacking 😂 hilarious but super cute

Daffodils for sure. Wonderful flowers.

Doing crafts - knitting, sewing, etc. It's my therapy and 'happy place'

Lying in my garden hammock listening to the birds.

Cup of tea first thing on our balcony overlooking a nature reserve. It’s a three storey house so we are elevated, on a hill kind of…. I used to have a large memory foam dog mattress out there for my Lab (elderly). The view is beautiful, the tips of trees and birds swooping.
I’m not such a fan of night time as what I thought were starlings DH lied to me are actually bats- and although I don’t mind them or wish them harm, they give me the creeps a bit.
Our living room looks out over the same view.

I see lots of bats (from a sanctuary) on you tube. Some are absolutely gorgeous. There was a lovely pic of mum and baby recently.

Jealous of your view!

Deathraystare · 27/03/2025 08:08

All the blossom, daffs and tulips around. All the birds' songs - even the screechy parakeets. Even my part of London looks good on a bright sunny day!

When I have a chilled out day with no patients, families or staff kicking off!

Ran out of bread this morning and too lazy to nip to the shops so put my old breadmaker on. The house smells lush.
AND my neighbour gave me a jar of her homemade rhubarb-from-the-allotment jam yesterday. Toast and jam for breakfast here!

Just stumbled across this thread so thought I would add to it. It is so uplifting.
Finishing work on a Friday and the drive home listening to an audiobook or a good podcast. Walking in the front door and my DS, DH and the two cats being there to greet me. I love knowing we have the whole weekend ahead to be together.

RobinEllacotStrike · 09/05/2025 13:07

Lying in my hammock (doing that right now now - lunch break)

catching a glimpse of the sea in my day.

going to the beach even if briefly.

setting the table nicely.

watering my pot plants

getting into bed before 10

making time to read a novel.

any interaction with my cats 🐈‍⬛ 🐈‍⬛

The hedgerows in the lanes around here are glorious at the moment. Above are swathes of May Blossom from the Hawthorns and under them we have frothy waves cow parsley, punctuated by clumps of bluebells and pink campions. In the shady spots are more bluebells and wild garlic. The buttercups are also pushing through in places so it's incredibly pretty! The hedgerow outside my house still has a few primroses in it and it's sprinkled all over with tiny Dog Violets. I even have some wild orchids there for the 5th year running.

Curling up with a good book and a glass of wine
Birdsong
Clean bedding
Listening to rain falling with my French doors open (preferably coupled with the good book and wine)
A walk in nature
Hearing my teenager singing 😍

flapjackfairy · 09/05/2025 14:15

oh yes washing on the line. I can watch it forever blowing in the breeze on a day like this . I especially love a straight line but only have a rotary one myself.
My lovely niece sent me a photo of a perfectly hung line of washing on her straight line a few weeks ago. She labelled it Washing Porn !
