Small glimmers of happiness- what are yours?

I'm interested in the little things, maybe seemingly insignificant things that bring joy to your life. Lately I've been thinking about the notion of finding happiness in everyday life to avoid things seeming mundane when I have no big events like holidays coming up. For example- the first page of a new book, growing herbs, a coffee in the garden... What little things bring you joy- I'd love to know, no matter how small.

What a lovely uplifting thread this is ,so many precious things that bring such joy and for once money hardly comes into it !
The world would be a more peaceful place if people had the same mindset.
Thank you op for your post, more like this needed on here !

Thank you! I’ve really enjoyed reading them all too, has put me in such a positive mood!
Also love how creatively people describe their favourite things. I know life can’t be amazing all the time but I liked what a previous poster said about all these glimmers adding up to make their life happy . 🥰 x

My dd getting excited about cherry blossom. Not something I've drilled into her but makes me fondly remember feeling the same as a kid. How lovely it looks and smell and it's that sign of brighter days and fun outside.

Seeing my grandson’s face light up when he sees me collecting him at nursery
A cup of coffee in the warm sunshine on the patio in the morning
We have a robin that returns to our garden every spring and sits cheekily close to us - it reappeared last week
Walking through the woods when the bluebells are out
Going to bed when my DC and their families are staying over - the beds are stacked and all is well with the world

Thank you for this thread. It’s made me count my blessings.

So many to list.
That first cup of tea when everyone has left the house in the morning
Opening the coop up and collecting those precious eggs (never fails)
The softness and warmth of cuddles with the cats
The company of the garden robin and blackbird who hop down to pick at the earth when I’m digging in the garden
Driving over to my Mum’s in the town I grew up, driving over the brow of the hill to drop down to the town and an instant calm and peaceful feeling comes over me
Returning home to Wales over the Severn Bridge
Feeling the warmth of the sun hitting my shoulders through my clothes like a warm hug
Hearing the intro of a favourite song starting
Walking/cycling in nature
Taking out the gorgeous smelling loaf from the bread maker and later sinking my teeth into a thick piece of toast saturated in proper butter
Finding a fab present I know someone will love and thinking of their reaction when they receive it

The first sip of the first coffee of the day.
Sunshine after cloudy days.
The daffodils appearing signifying that Spring has arrived.
The first sight each year of a large swathe of bluebells.
Getting the washing completely dry after being on the washing line.

MrsPringledusts · 26/03/2025 14:06

Just to add to my post - Robin has upped his game! I had to go out this morning so didn't put any mealworms out as rushing to get ready. When I opened the door - robin was in the porch, by the mealworm tub! At this rate he'll be serving mealworms to the rest of the birdy community!

A male chaffinch has been attacking his reflection in our windows, flying at them again and again. He is making quite a mess and I was afraid he would hurt himself, so I went and got my DC's old stuffed toys and propped them in the windows. It's working, he seems to have stopped, and it's really making me laugh seeing the teddy bears on guard at all the windows.

Watching my dog being soo happy when she's on a walk sniffing everything in sight. Her bum wiggles and her tail sort of helicopters. There's a real innocence to it and I can't help but feel more cheerful when I see it.

BigDahliaFan · 26/03/2025 16:08

When its warm enough I love to take the first cup of the tea out to the bench at the front of the house as that gets the sun in the morning and watch the birds in the garden - accompanied by my old man of a cat who now just watches them (and occasionally chirrups). It's an extraordinarily peaceful part of my day. Then I take my DH up a cup of tea.

frozendaisy · 26/03/2025 16:22

Was taking totally dry washing down as both teens came cycling into garden so they told me their school day highlights and gossip whilst helping with the laundry.

How cute! There’s lots of bird related joy 🥰

Two gorgeous clumps of primroses in the garden.
The horse chestnut sticky buds in the park opening at last.
New leaves on the hawthorn trees in the garden.

Crazyladee · 26/03/2025 17:03

Doing early morning yoga at home. I light a candle and now the mornings are lighter, the sun is streaming through our living room patio doors. At the end of the session, we say an affirmation and say "Namaste" there's something so soothing about it.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 26/03/2025 17:03

Oh, and sitting in the garden in the sun today, with a blackbird singing his little head off for ages.

WitchyArtyGreeny · 26/03/2025 17:05

Playing with or petting my cat and the neighbour's cat, enjoying the sunshine, looking at the flowers in my garden, eating some nice food, a walk by the sea, listening to a song I like, doing some creative stuff (painting, writing, craft), decorating my old house, having my breakfast in the garden when it is sunny like today listening to the seagulls, my weekly pilates class, my couch to 5k challenge...

Quite a lot when I think about it!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 26/03/2025 18:31

Everything about sunny spring and summer days.
Talking with teenage DS in the car about all sorts.
Cuddling with my dog.
Walking him in the fields or on the beach on light evenings.
Running along the sea defences.
Pole dancing, well actually any sort of dancing.
Paddleboarding in the Lake District especially Coniston.

I only really come to life in spring and summer!

Me too. I got a huge hit of serotonin just reading your comment! I love spring. I have been feeling my seasonal depression lifting since the daffodils started to appear and the extra daylight too.

FlossieKirkpatrick · 27/03/2025 05:41

Ice cold can of diet coke
shower bombs
crispy clean sheets

StarlightLady · 27/03/2025 05:44

It’s battery operated!

Slimbear · 27/03/2025 05:58

Birdsong at this time of year is at its best - download the Merlin app for free onto your phone and it identifies the birds - mine detects a song thrush mostly here. Though it doesn’t work so well with loud background noise like traffic.

mildlydispeptic · 27/03/2025 05:58

Definitely clean bedding and blossom. The pink of forced rhubarb, scooping into the pristine top of a new jar of marmalade, my first morning coffee in a quiet kitchen, the align tool in PowerPoint, and little kind smiley interactions with baristas, people on the tube etc.

Longsummerdays25 · 27/03/2025 06:02

An unexpected hug
Fresh flowers inside my house
My family of blue tits and the deer in my garden
The sound of water from nearby stream
A clean car
New pjs
A real fire
A quiet day sitting in the sunshine after a busy working week - feels wonderful because of the contrast
Finding out it’s not cancer - I will find out on Monday

garlictwist · 27/03/2025 06:07

Sunshine, the sound of sky larks when I go walking in the hills, watching my washing on the line.

And also, stupidly, I have to cross a massive junction when I walk to work. If I arrive at the crossing just as it turns green and don't have to wait, I award myself an imaginary 100 points and decide it will be a good day.
