We've stopped shopping in our local one as it seems to have gone downhill . By that I mean somehow soulless , a bit grubby , often less stock , and everyone seems unhappy there.
What's yours like ?

I'll be sad if the deli counters goes. I'll be off to Waitrose, who haven't got rid of theirs, if they do.

Not everyone wants to buy massive packs of cold meat. I don't eat ham often, just on homemade pizza or salad, occasionally a sandwich, so it always ends up being thrown away. Also I can pick how thick I want it, so for a salad I have thick cut, whereas for a sandwich I have thin cut. Same with cheese and paté.

Ours got rid of it's deli counter years ago. Along with its salad bar, fresh fish, meat butchery etc. For a while all we've had "fresh" as such was a half arsed bakery where it was a lottery if they had anything freshly warmed (I won't say baked as it was all brought in half cooked, so just finished off in store) - some days the entire racks were empty as if the staff hadn't bothered. The other is the hot food corner which does cooked chickens and warmed up sausage rolls, pies, etc., which again, it's hit and miss whether there's much to buy - completely random whether the counter is full or completely empty. The whole thing is so hopeless and unreliable, I stopped going.

It's clearly being asset stripped and deliberately run down by the new American owners. Probably going to sell off the prized sites to other stores like Tesco etc to make a killing for the owners and then be put into administration to get rid of sites they're stuck with under leases etc. More huge empty sheds incoming in a couple of years' time once they've sold off the sites that can make them money.

Yes. Ours recently made headlines for the rodent nibbled fresh produce

Never going there again
