Has your local Morrison's gone downhill ?

We've stopped shopping in our local one as it seems to have gone downhill . By that I mean somehow soulless , a bit grubby , often less stock , and everyone seems unhappy there.
What's yours like ?

Mine has turned the old cafe area into a Aldi/Lidl style Special Buy section.
It has it's own little self service till and everything.
But...... nothing ever has a price on it !
There's never any staff in the area so you can't even ask.
Their general non food section (toys etc) also is frequently without price tickets.
Very annoying.

SaffyWall · 22/03/2025 10:14

Yes - it's miserable. Poorly stocked, pallets and boxes blocking the aisle, the bakery and deli counter are often closed, random boxes of slippers and tupperware for sale and they've taken out all but 3 tills so everything is now self-serve.

Bluevelvetsofa · 22/03/2025 10:22

I once went in the one in a nearby town. Never again.

HappySheldon · 22/03/2025 10:26

Yes ours has. It's dishevelled, the shelves are disorganised and the stock is all higgledy piggly. Plus it smells bad. I rarely to never go in now. I was using the carpark for a recent trip to another shop and so of course felt honour bound to buy things in Morrisons and i was just looking for some chicken and a tub of cheese sauce. I could not find the cheese sauce anywhere in any of the obvious places and the chicken options just looked a bit grotty. So i bought knickers and prosecco instead. TBF the knickers are very soft and comfy.

Darkclothes · 22/03/2025 10:29

Our nearest was only re-built in the last 2yrs, so its all very new. Its very big and because I rarely shop there, I can neve find anything. The freshly baked bread is no where near the sliced bread. They added several hot food shops inside the store- pizza, roast chickens, burgers etc although I've never bought anything from there.
They've recently started adding the random lidl middle aisle. As someone else said- there are no prices!

Prices on everything have gone up and its often more expensive than sainburys now. I tried signing up for home delivery, but the system says they don't deliver to my area. This is despite me seeing the van in my street and my neighbour gets deliveries and we have the same postcode!

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 22/03/2025 10:35

I think they’ve gone down hill since they were sold a few years ago and have heard that they’re in trouble. No staff, no trollies at the entrance, one entrance blocked off, dirty, random bargain boxes stuffed full of cheap goods.
I pass three Morrisons stores on a regular basis and often filled up my car with diesel when shopping, until suddenly my car was clanking and missing really, really badly. I realised it was always when I filled up at Morrisons. So that’s bad diesel from three separate Morrisons petrol stations! No problems now I fill up elsewhere.
One of their stores is forever turning off the lights in every other aisle, it’s like shopping in a third world country! Last time I went in I even took photos to show friends how dark and dirty it was.

Yes, the freezers are an absolute mess. They are sometimes frozen shut so that there is no way to access the produce behind certain doors, and other times they are dripping wet.

quantumbutterfly · 22/03/2025 10:37

Like many supermarkets, our Morrisons has automated checkout processes and after a certain time has no staffed checkouts.
I'm sure this improves shareholder profits but all I see is poor service and job losses.
It's a shame because I like their range of products and the people who work there are really pleasant and helpful.

However, their pricing is bonkers. It's often less expensive to buy two smaller weights than one large weight of many products but one shelf had pricing where buying two items together was more expensive then twice the price of the single product.

At least it keeps my brain exercised.

Breadcat24 · 22/03/2025 10:38

Yes it is awful- much less meat selection and shelves are a mess.
But I feel really sorry for the staff- they are absolutely miserable since the management of Morrisons changed

TwentyTwentyFive · 22/03/2025 10:39

Yes ours now resembles a chaotic discount shop, there's boxes of random stuff all over the place and quite often stock carts just seemingly abandoned in aisles.

MassiveOvaryaction · 22/03/2025 10:40

I couldn't tell you when I was last in ours so don't know if it's changed, we only use them online. Have noticed recently though that where in the past we'd get substitutions now if stuff is out of stock we just don't get it. Assume that means there's less stuff on the shelves (like ordered Mutti tinned tomatoes, they didn't even send own brand). And they're always late! Don't know why they bother offering the one hour slots, they seem to always arrive half and hour after.

TheFlis · 22/03/2025 10:42

I don’t shop thee but people are always moaning about the store near me on the local Facebook pages, saying it is poorly stocked, grubby, and the freezers are always breaking.

😂your post reminded me of some of the home delivery substitution threads.

Knickers and prosecco is very Bridget Jones.

Yes so often all the products in cardboard boxes are sodden and falling apart. The meat section shelves look dirty, they have some kind of dalek hoover going round and round and flickering lights and slightly too loud music. It’s all a bit surreal like the opening scene of some kind of low budget horror in my local one !

DisforDarkChocolate · 22/03/2025 10:45

I've moved to a place where Morrisons is the closest supermarket and it's been a big disappointment. Dark, low stock, high prices. Where probably going to get a delivery once a month from Tesco once the new kitchen is in and use local shops for the rest day to day.

They seem to be doing some sort of collaboration with Amazon.

PontiacFirebird · 22/03/2025 10:46

Since they got bought out I think the new owners are deliberately running it into the ground. It’s miserable and I won’t go there anymore.

minnienono · 22/03/2025 10:47

Definitely not as good as it used to be, I’ve moved so I’m not comparing the same branch but my gripe is lack of roasting joints especially larger pieces (used to be my go to) butchers counter seem bemused when I asked if they had any pork shoulder at all (a normal mainstream joint to buy) they stopped selling mackerel pate (bit niche but I bought it twice a week pre Covid when I lived near a Morrison’s) now it’s not close to me so only go when we need diy stuff or are going to the mall. Fish counter is still excellent

AuthorGirl1 · 22/03/2025 10:50

Omg yes it's awful! Like a bargain basement jumble sale. It's a shame I used to love morrisons years ago, but when I moved to a new area I started shopping in Tesco and much prefer that now.

WindmillOfBones · 22/03/2025 10:52

Their attempt at the Aisle of Shite is awful - half empty boxes, no prices anywhere, no idea what half of it is meant to be.

Ours at least has a lot of self service basket tills with staff close by - unfortunately they closed the two conveyor belt self serve tills which makes it a pain if you have more than a few bits as there's never more than 2 manned tills open.

And you have to press a button for service if you want to get into a display in the locked alcohol aisle.

quantumbutterfly · 22/03/2025 10:53

I like that our Morrisons is not too large, all the other retailers have huge shop floors and all I see when I look at them is choice paralysis and waste.

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 22/03/2025 10:55

Ours is well stocked but not the most organised, I only shop there for a meal deal before we go to the zoo because it’s right next to it. I’d never do a weekly shop there because it’s so overpriced! Feel like it’s become the most expensive supermarket and the quality is awful.

The locked alcohol shelves are a sign of the times aren't they? Sainsbury's have gone for the all encompassing security barrier that needs a till receipt to release you into the wild.

HermioneWeasley · 22/03/2025 10:58

I shopped with them for years and was very happy. Availability in my local shop is now so poor I can’t get everything I need there now and have to drive and extra 15 mins to Sainsbury’s which I discovered is now cheaper. everyone locally complaining about it and all the weird stuff unpriced in boxes everywhere. Anyone know why it’s all French?

SparklyBrickViper · 22/03/2025 11:00

Filthy.

There isn’t a “local” one for me but on my way back from work.
After last week’s visit unlikely to call again.
