Very small luxuries that feel worth it

On a budget at the moment. My small luxuries are the odd bunch of flowers - daffodils at £1 a bunch are just lovely. Also dark chocolate (Moser Roth) and blank notebooks.

If you go in supermarkets at yellow sticker time/reduction time flowers are often cheaper.

BeaLola · 18/03/2025 19:55

Agree with the daffodils (85p in Aldi)

Also I bought some primroses/oolyanthis at Tesco which have brightened my day

Further ahead last year I bought some small fuchsias for £1:25 from Morrisons - they gave a lovely display

Tulips. Two bunches for about £6 and they make me smile every time I see them.

Pots of low calorie jelly. Party food every day!

Clinique Take the Day Off balm. I don’t like scented products so I love this one. A pot lasts forever as well.

KohlaParasaurus · 18/03/2025 20:01

Hand made bar soap.

Condensedmilkdrinker · 18/03/2025 20:03

Box of malteasers, not the bags. They taste better and are cheaper!

I can whip through one of those little boxes in no time. And they’re somehow more fun than the bags.

Flowers too.

Takeaway coffee, even though the costs are creeping up. I do make my own coffee and take it in a thermos quite often, but sometimes it is too strong or weak or. It quite right. Coffee shop coffee is perfect every time.

Yes, a box seems much more fancy.

JazzieC · 18/03/2025 20:35

Yes to daffodils - I love watching them unfurl and they last for ages. Also a hyacinth bulb in a pot on the kitchen windowsill - lovely to watch it flower and then plant in the garden for years to come.

A pot of posh hot chocolate. Every time I visit my daughter at uni I pop into Whittards for one of their hot chocolate samples. I finally gave in this weekend and bought a pot to take home with me.

My other affordable luxuries are wine, cake, chocolate or an early night with a book or my iPad. Smile

I hate cut flowers, the poor things are dying. Just look at them when they're growing.

Mum2jenny · 18/03/2025 20:40

Small orchid plants at around £6 in a supermarket can live for years and can be a good buy..

Bignanna · 18/03/2025 20:42

Luxury choclolate
Luxury soap

Eachpeachpearprune · 18/03/2025 20:43

Was just about to say daffodils.
Have you got the Olio app? It’s mainly free food but I often collect free flowers which still last a week 🙂

Andnowshesatoddler · 18/03/2025 20:46

Random but pampers nappies over the supermarket brand I've had zero blow outs on my daughter since the change and honestly it makes my mornings so much smoother!

For me I always buy the soft fruit I want rather than making do with apples and cheaper fruit.

marmiteandcheeseoncrumpetspls · 18/03/2025 20:47

I came on to say tulips.
They are my fave flower!

I bought a bunch in Aldi last Sunday (10 days ago) and as a PP said they have made me smile every time I saw them . They were white, with pink tipped petals - so delicate and pretty. Worth every one of the 239 pennies they cost!

Will need binning tomorrow though sadly.

Going through the carwash 😎 Serve me my giant soapy robot slave!

AdoraBell · 18/03/2025 20:50

For me it’s chocolate and coffee.

TijuanaLady123 · 18/03/2025 20:53

Lavazza rossa coffee that's almost doubled in price over the last few years.

Blingismything · 18/03/2025 20:54

A new pair of socks from Fatface or Joules or similar. A glossy magazine. An artisan loaf of bread.

Sheknowsaboutme · 18/03/2025 20:54

Daffs (has to be, I’m Welsh!)

lighting a candle or switching on my Espa diffuser

AgnesX · 18/03/2025 20:55

Cheap kindle downloads. Cheap books generally.

Well now I’m not only going to have to go to a car wash, but I’m going to have to say this every time too. 😆

minipie · 18/03/2025 21:03

AgnesX get yourself a library membership and the Libby app - free books and e books!

Nice smelling hand cream or shampoo, gives a little lift. Doesn’t have to be expensive, just a nice smell.

Fresh herbs, always makes a meal seem
more fancy, and tasty/healthy too

Toothicktounderstand · 18/03/2025 21:04

A bath with paraban free products. Just the time to relax is luxury.

Lovely towels that make me happy.

A silk pillowcase. No idea if it helps with hair or wrinkles but it feels lovely.

Not luxury as such, but fairy lights on a battery operated timer in my bedroom which are already on twinkling ⭐️ when I come to bed.

A feather quilt, 100% cotton cover and vintage old wool blankets.

Mine are quite sad I think reading them, but they make me happy.

100% wool jumpers too. I do like a bit of natural fabric the older, more perimenopausal, I get.

🤔
... But the flowers are dying even on the daffodils that are growing outside...
... And the cut ones are growing for a while in a vase before they start dying...
... And I expect daff farmers will cut the flower stem off the plant and leave the bulb in situ so the plant hasn't been 'killed'...
😂
