Very small luxuries that feel worth it

On a budget at the moment. My small luxuries are the odd bunch of flowers - daffodils at £1 a bunch are just lovely. Also dark chocolate (Moser Roth) and blank notebooks.

@PutYourSpecsOnJean it’s the D’Avignon range at Lidl that are the L’Occitane dupes - I have never seen them in my store though.

Lidl’s pink large bottle SDJ dupe is great. Aldi have just released SDJ dupes too, but in teeny tiny bottles for £2.99.

I am loving my Aldi Drunk Elephant dupe moisturiser- I will probably never see it again, though 😿

Carryonlaughing · 19/03/2025 15:10

Molton Brown hand wash - lasts forever as one small pump is enough and so it goes a long way, lovely long lasting scent and rich lather so it leaves the hands softer.
My last bottle in the cloakroom lasted an incredible year with the small pump and it averaged out at a very low 45 pence a week!

Proper golden butter, new socks (ideally sparkly), fresh flowers.

I read a “scientific study” recently which said that that actually do taste better from the box, something to do with how they roll around over each other 😂

The boxes are currently half price (reduced to £1.50) in my Sainsbury’s Local btw.

You can't really disagree with "science" can you 😀

IlovePond · 19/03/2025 16:44

I’ve started using up random items of skincare/haircare/cleanser/body lotion every time I shower, (instead of hiding/hoarding it in cupboards 🙈).

By putting it all in a large plastic container on the bathroom windowsill I get to enjoy choosing something different every time. This may sound silly, but it really cheers me up.

Most of it is free samples, or GWP or birthday freebies, (particularly liking SpaceNK’s no purchase needed birthday freebies, btw), or sale bargains or Aldi dupes. (Aldi’s recent La Mer dupe cleansing lotion is finally getting used!)

Not only is my skin/hair looking better, but it’s curtailing my urge to buy more ‘stuff’ until this is all used up!

AgnesX get yourself a library membership and the Libby app - free books and e books!

Nice smelling hand cream or shampoo, gives a little lift. Doesn’t have to be expensive, just a nice smell.

Fresh herbs, always makes a meal seem
more fancy, and tasty/healthy too

Thanks for the Libby recommendation. I've not heard about that one, will go and look it up.

I like nice shower gel and body lotion... but as I get given it and presents keep me stocked I don't think of it as a luxury. I would if I had to buy it though!

Endofyear · 19/03/2025 17:40

Sainsbury's whipped feta dip with hot pitta bread
Butterkist popcorn
Radox muscle soak bubble bath
Those aloe vera gel under-eye patches to zap the puffiness and dark circles!

BlackeyedSusan · 19/03/2025 17:48

Dou Egberts coffee instead of cheaper.

(Generally buy smart price or supermarket own level of groceries rather than branded. )

justasking111 · 19/03/2025 17:54

The odd plant from Lidl and goats milk soap.

Zanzara · 19/03/2025 17:59

Nice cheese. A good strong cheddar - though I'm not sure that counts as cheap anymore. Little slivers eaten from the packet out of the fridge....

Nice handcream.

Bar soap from TK Max lasts ages and smells lovely.

@BigDahliaFan I can recommend M&S extra mature cheddar - really flavoursome, and if you buy the large 550g blocks it's well under £8 a kilo.I think it's a bargain, and makes a lovely quiche or cheese omelette with not a lot of cheese. (Their chopped tinned Italian tomatoes are also exceptional, and 50p a tin).

Yes, a box seems much more fancy.

boxes remind me of theatre trips as a child!

harriethoyle · 18/03/2025 21:20

Molton Brown bubble bath. I love the scents and it produces masses of bubbles. Ditto Fenjel bath oil although no foam with that.

Ooh which molton brown scents do you use? I discovered Labdunum Dusk and it's changed my life 🤤

honeyfox · 19/03/2025 18:08

I love the Molton Brown Coco & Sandalwood shower gel, it's gorgeous.

TeaIsNice · 19/03/2025 18:11

L'oreal mascara

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 19/03/2025 18:11

Molton Brown Rhubarb & Rose is fabulous!

MsNevermore · 19/03/2025 18:24

I am temporarily living overseas, and I pay a disgusting about of money for U.K. chocolate 🫣🫣
It’s standard U.K. fare, nothing overly fancy, but it costs me an arm and a leg in shipping costs. I don’t care. The local stuff is an abomination.

HundredMilesAnHour · 19/03/2025 18:28

Homemade coffee. It’s my morning ritual (if I’m going to the office, I take one with me in a Hydroflask to have when I arrive). It really is my little luxury every day and I enjoy sitting quietly with a wonderful coffee while I psych myself up for the day.

I take my coffee very seriously and weigh my beans out, grind, use a WDT etc. My coffee tastes amazing. 😻

I have bought some small really well made fabric bags to store tokens from boardgames in. It's made me really happy. I'm thinking about getting some that are printed now.

henlake7 · 19/03/2025 19:01

Fresh bread straight from the bread maker with butter and jam.

My nightly can of kombucha. I don't drink alcohol so it feels like a 'fancy' tipple.

And I'm not a fan of cut flowers but I'm a sucker for the houseplant section in the supermarket. Plants just seem to fall into my basket somehow!

Yirk · 19/03/2025 19:01

A good book,
Lots of daffodils,
Orange twirls

whatisforteamum · 19/03/2025 19:02

Mini eggs.
Daffodils
Ginger turmeric tea or chai tea.
Homemade bread with seeds or sesame
It's not cheaper than buying but hot bread and hot cross buns are lovely.
New shower gel.

PlummyPlumPlum · 19/03/2025 19:06

Easter chocolate - my favourite eggs and bunnies have skyrocketed in price. When they were at full price I still didn’t buy them but now it’s buy 2 for $x etc. So I do!

Nottodaythankyou123 · 19/03/2025 19:10

Another vote for tulips! I also have a couple of nice highball glasses (just from b&m) and a bouji mug that make me feel nice when I drink out of them 😂

Also, not necessarily cheap but a good present idea, but the L’Occitane shower oil for a pick me up, I adore it!

Nottodaythankyou123 · 19/03/2025 19:17

PutYourSpecsOnJean · 18/03/2025 21:47

Please tell me about the Lidl l'Occitane dupes! Everyones always going on about the brilliant dupes at Aldi but I'm much nearer a Lidl and would love to know about lovely stuff to find there

Controversial but I always find the dupes a bit shit - they look similar, they smell similar but (unsurprisingly for the price) the products themselves aren’t usually that great in me experience.

endofthecorridoor · 19/03/2025 19:17

My friend just gave me a spare coffee cup that you carry around and I'm loving it. Seems luxurious having it everywhere even if it's just instant from home.
