Trump, as out of control as a faulty Tesla, takes an ICE pick to the Constitution.

Thanks to @AcrossthePond55 and @Jaichangecentfoisdenom for the thread title and sub-title 😊

The fact that the president of the US posted this on his social media is absolutely batshit….and don’t get me started on Elon and the spoons!

“I LOVE $TRUMP — SO COOL!!! The Greatest of them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Anyone remember that great one hit wonder of the late Seventies, by Jilted John? Replace “Gordon” with “The Don”, and we have the soundtrack for our era.

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom
You have just taken me back to my school sports hall
shouting along to Jilted John
happy days

For reference, the following week I went to a disco at Dulwich College and I still have visceral memories of singing along to the Tom Robinson Band and looking at friends in a new way

Igotjelly · 23/03/2025 20:03

At the other end of the spectrum we have Pete Buttogieg explaining why DEI matters - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bx62pk3kwf8 he really is a class act ❤️

He's pushing his crypto brand right now because next week are the hearings for his pick for the head of the SEC, Paul Atkins, who is a 'pro-unregulated-crypto' Trumpinista and if confirmed as expected will loosen the regulations on the crypto industry.

So naturally Scrotus is trying to get as many people to buy his crypto as possible. Grifters gonna grift.

Trump picks crypto backer Paul Atkins as new Securities and Exchange Commission chair

Trump picked Atkins, a former SEC commissioner, to head the agency. Known for his support of cryptocurrencies, Atkins could help shape regulations for the industry.

Less of a one hit wonder in his John Shuttleworth persona.

The hyperactive little worm in my ear is now singing that song in Trump's voice.

Looks like this week is going to be "Greenland, Greenland,Greenland".
Canada can take a few days off.

From NYT:
Relations between Greenland and the United States sank further on Sunday as the Greenlandic prime minister erupted over what he called a “highly aggressive” delegation of senior officials the Trump administration said it would send to the island this week.

Usha Vance, the second lady, and Michael Waltz, the national security adviser, are among the officials headed to the island, which is a semiautonomous territory of Denmark, though President Trump has vowed to make it part of the United States “one way or the other.”

Ms. Vance is scheduled to make a series of cultural stops after her arrival on Thursday, separate from Mr. Waltz. The national security adviser is supposed to be traveling earlier in the week with the U.S. energy secretary, Chris Wright.

The prime minister, Mute B. Egede, said on Sunday that Greenlanders’ effort to be diplomatic just “bounces off Donald Trump and his administration in their mission to own and control Greenland.”

He made the remarks, his angriest yet, to a Greenlandic newspaper on Sunday, and a high-ranking member of his party confirmed them. The prime minister seemed especially upset with Mr. Waltz’s involvement.

“What is the national security adviser doing in Greenland?” he asked. “The only purpose is to demonstrate power over us.”

“His mere presence in Greenland will no doubt fuel American belief in Trump’s mission — and the pressure will increase,” he added.

I read somewhere that Vance is bringing her son along, another poor kid used as a shield prop

I feel increasingly murderous towards these arrogant Trumpers.
Luckily I'm a relatively mild nearly old woman in Britain.
How I would feel if I was a beefy Greenland man with weapons to hand I wouldn't like to speculate.
Sigh. Putting that aside, if the US is refusing entry to anyone it feels like, why doesn't Greenland just hold these people at the airport for a few hours, find a reason not to let them in - national security surely- and deport their sorry arses back to the US?
I know I would given half a chance. 😂

countrygirl99 · 24/03/2025 10:10

If I was in charge of the decision making I'd be slapping a visa requirement in ther. Currently US citizens don't need a visa for visits to Greenland of up to 90 days. Doesn't seem appropriate for the citizens of a country that is threatening a takeover.

Maybe take a look at his social media accounts and search his phone on entry?

What's good for the goose and all that!

I just said the same to DH...

A national sled dog race is on the schedule of Usha Vance, the second lady, for the visit to Greenland.

...Or strand them somewhere up island when they visit the dog sleigh teams.

The last few weeks have been one unbelievable horror after another and yet evidence of proper outrage within in the US population is difficult to find. There seems to be a collective complacency and I wonder if it's because there's no history of mass-mobilisation on the streets in the US in the same way as there is in Europe. In the US they go to stadia, mostly remain seated to hear someone speak. In Europe every city and town and even village will have a war memorial, every family will have recentish stories about what the war did to them. Europeans truly know what it's like for things to be awful on their soil, and the US population just doesn't. (Britain, of course, has never forgotten... we have the Daily Fail to remind us!)

I get the sense it’s a bit of boiling the frog going on too, until the impacts hit them personally a lot of people won’t so much as raise their heads. That and the fact I do think there is a captive media to a degree in the US these days, particularly for those who are maybe less well educated or more prone to right wing thinking.

I find it particularly worrying that “we” just assume Trump and his cult are joking around when it comes to things like annexation. If any other world leader said half the shit they do we would rightly take it very seriously. It feels a bit like we treat them as though they’re the crazy old drunk uncle at the party who rambles nonsense but doesn’t really mean any harm, instead of the World’s largest military leader and half way to an expansionist authoritarian state.

Igotjelly · 24/03/2025 12:46

I do though believe that there are many incredible people in the US, and the day they’re able to drag their country out of this dark hole will be a wonderful one.

Spandauer · 24/03/2025 12:54

I agree @Igotjelly .

I post piss-takes and stupid memes as a coping mechanism. Inside (and outside, as DH can attest!) I am apoplectic with rage and regard what Trump and Project 2025 are trying to achieve as rapidly moving towards the end of democracy in the US, with a side order of the complete re-ordering of the global political landscape (and not in a good way).
