How close is your closest IKEA?

My nearest IKEA is 45 minutes away (on a good day).

A product was out of stock and I was looking for alternative stores and I was surprised at how few stores they actually have.

About 8 hours and involves a ferry 😂 there’s 3rd party delivery companies that do regular Ikea trips that will pick your stuff up and bring it though.

Why are you surprised at the stores?

Their business model is setting up giant warehouses in the middle of nowhere. They have never been a retailer with lots of convenient stores as a result.

This. The first original Ikea is in the middle of nowhere, just trees and more trees.

5 mins drive!

MumChp · 18/03/2025 13:29

An hour or so. We don't have a car so we order. Had a bed for our youngst a few months ago.
Worked fine.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 18/03/2025 13:31

10-15 minutes away by car. It kills me if I need to get something delivered as it’s so close. Over the years I have become expert in being creative to get bigger items in the car!

HelloCanYouHearMe · 18/03/2025 13:31

5 mins away in town before they shut it down. Now we go to either Wednesbury or Nottingham, so 45mins to an hour depending on traffic

MyIvyGrows · 18/03/2025 13:32

As the crow flies, about a mile and a half. In a car on the road, about 20 mins.

reluctantbrit · 18/03/2025 13:32

Anything between 20-45 min depending on traffic.

If we know the item we want, DH goes at 7.30pm (they open until 10pm) and is back in less than one hour

TubeScreamer · 18/03/2025 13:33

45 minutes if no traffic

DobbyTheHouseElk · 18/03/2025 13:33

Hour and half to an older one.

Just under an hour to the lovely new one. I go about once every 5 years.

Oldandcobwebby · 18/03/2025 13:34

We are between two. Google maps tells me I have a choice of a 38min or 40min journey.

mindutopia · 18/03/2025 13:34

30 minutes or so. I’ve been there twice ever. Mostly for the restaurant and the cinnamon rolls. The actual store gives me a headache.

DeepLimeBird · 18/03/2025 13:35

My closest one is 2 miles away. It’s one of the reasons I am constantly skint 😂

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 18/03/2025 13:36

Pretty much equidistant between 2, an hour or so away from either.

Ariela · 18/03/2025 13:39

25-30 min drive. Never go. I once drove to London in the days of only a couple of branches, and turned round before getting to the car park because of the traffic jam.

SirDanielBrackley · 18/03/2025 13:39

17 miles. 23 mins by motorway. Never been there.

Sidewinderer · 18/03/2025 13:40

10 min walk. I went there for dinner yesterday and a nose around.

Funnywonder · 18/03/2025 13:42

About 10 miles, which takes 25 minutes. Seeing it written down it doesn’t seem like much, but Christ it’s like a bloody pilgrimage when we go. It always feels like a great big fuss and yet I do similar journeys to other places without much thought. Maybe it’s DP. I think I hate going with him. See, he starts measuring stuff and looking for staff because he has questions (good luck with that) and standing in one place for too long and I just want to keep following the breadcrumb trail because it’s soooo fecking long😭

Myengagementring · 18/03/2025 13:42

30 minute drive but we have a distribution centre about 10 minutes away which is frustrating 😆

mathanxiety · 18/03/2025 13:43

Assuming excellent traffic conditions, and doing about 60mph, one is 30 minutes away and one is 40. It normally takes at least 15 minutes longer to reach either one though.

Blarn · 18/03/2025 13:44

Should be a bit more than 30 mins but it involves the M6 so is always more than 45 minutes.

SparkyBlue · 18/03/2025 13:45

Depending on traffic approx 2 and a half hours drive

Notdoingtoobadfor52 · 18/03/2025 13:45

3 miles ☺️

Redcrayons · 18/03/2025 13:46

15/20 minutes. there isn’t a room in my house which doesn’t have something from IKEA in it.

Discombobble · 18/03/2025 13:46

350 miles (15 hours)
