Thanks to @JoshLymanSwagger for the thread title.

Trump, Vance and Musk are building a bigly bridge across the Bering Strait...
...and creating a gaping chasm in the Atlantic.

Kind hearts are more than coronets, and simple faith than Norman blood.

All this alleged "I'm a crazy guy" supposed Trump strategy is undermining the genuine power the US has, as a safe harbour for capital

Well isn't that what Putin is paying for ?

E2A: Given how many deals Trump has welched on, how come this one seems sacrosanct ? Or is it just as flaky a all his other deals and Putin may end up feeling a tad shortchanged ?

Pension funds use US government bonds as a safe haven from market volatility as part of their strategy for customers close to retirement. I think they might need to opt for UK or European now

Read something else about how tariffs would reduce the flow of money from other countries into the US, and that they rely on the money (but don't realise it).

What an unpleasant man. Something tells me he is a teensy weensy bit on the defensive (also known as 'has no answers')

Agree! Also that he just likes causing chaos and being a bully….

He and Putin really are two variations on a theme.

I do at least credit Putin with being intelligent and a master of his own destiny….

I agree, they just don't realise it do they! Americans think that America is inherently great, they don't realise how much they need the goodwill of the rest of us.
A country built upon machismo is constitutionally unable to acknowledge the importance of soft power.

It's likely the banks that Musk has taken out loans with for Tesla are sending him Concerned Letters

Why ? We all know the taxpayer will bail them out.

Again.

And just wait until the lawsuits start in earnest. They're going to be very expensive. Assuming the administration hasn't been completely successful in managing to bully/scare/strong arm the law firms out of representing people.

@SerendipityJane - yes, I am still a Wordler. Any particular reason? There was an answer recently which made me think of Trump, but I can’t remember it as once I’ve finished the Wordle du jour, I usually forget what it was. Might it have been “spite” on a day when Trump had been being particularly vindictive?

“Insanity is not a strategy”

A top economics reporter goes off script on national TV: “I am going to say this at risk of my job, but what President Trump is doing is insane.”
bsky.app/profile/briantylercohen.bsky.social/post/3lk5magb7vk2f

I absolutely love “insanity is not a strategy”.
When discussing the current situation in the USA, my husband and I usually end our conversations with a despairing “what to do, what to do?” Recently, I have come to the conclusion that Trump turns out to be the reason for the Second Amendment and citizens should rise up against him and his cronies because they are in fear for their lives and their livelihoods and what he is doing to the country by his many selfish, ignorant, misanthropic, actions. I’m wrong, amn’t I?

Funnily enough, I normally put in something from the news or something I've read.
I got spite first go Shock for the exact reason you pointed out.

Well done on the “spite”, @JoshLymanSwagger. And looking back at today’s Wordle, which I got in a magnificent 5(!), I now see why @SerendipityJane was asking this morning - I thought of these threads when I finally got it, but couldn’t remember the entire epithet, though it’s just come back to me!

Shamrocks safely delivered.
(no matter who Drumpf meets with, he always seems to be able to find something inappropriate or insulting to say)

From NYT just now:
President Trump was asked who his favorite Irish person was as he met with Micheál Martin, the prime minister of Ireland. Trump responded, “I do happen to like your fighter,” referring to Conor McGregor, the former U.F.C. fighter from Ireland. McGregor is not a popular figure in Ireland, where he has been held liable for sexual assault and has regularly supported far-right fringe figures.

More about the meeting from the Journal.

GildedRage · 12/03/2025 18:30

That’s so funny, can you imagine going into any business meeting and proclaiming this “I think everyone loves me”. The suck holing is nauseating nobody should be visiting him till he stops the annexation bs of other countries.

The thing is any responsible politician - say for example Keir Starmer - knows that it's not only their own personal safety they are putting in the line of Trumps ego. It's the lives of the people they have been elected to represent and protect.

Look how many people died in Ukraine since he took umbrage at Zelensky.

We already know what a spiteful person Trump can be. Why risk putting it to the test ?
