Thanks to @JoshLymanSwagger for the thread title.

Trump, Vance and Musk are building a bigly bridge across the Bering Strait...
...and creating a gaping chasm in the Atlantic.

Kind hearts are more than coronets, and simple faith than Norman blood.

Watching JD Vance and Hegseth at the Southern Border. What a pair of absolute morons.

What I thought was interesting about this article is how Canadians say they feel really let down by the UK and in particular King Charles.

Of course King Charles is also Canada's head of state. So perhaps we/he shouldn't be welcoming Trump on a visit if he is going to threaten Canada, impose tariffs and 'joke' about making it the 51st state.

‘The relationship is broken’: Canadians respond to Trump’s tariffs

Many plan to boycott US goods and say they will not cross the border while Trump is in office

@CaveMum that's a relatively long article not really well written and i don't know if her sample of people are simple neighbors.
yes, i would like the king and the uk to have a strong stance on annexation but i understand many of the young don't have that past history with the royal family.
and his treats came out early when i had the impression many countries were afraid of what trump had in store for them.
as a country we're blessed with good agriculture so our food supply is available and abundant although fruits can be somewhat limited. no issue with fuel.
many do have jobs that are interconnected with the usa but not all, our economy is usually slow and steady no matter the year or decade.
with a the canadian pension plan available to all canadians starting as early as 60 someone 65 and struggling has other life issues. at age 65 you then have access to more pension money called old age security.
i'm just back from a big grocery shop out of 35+ items only two from usa.
all country of origin clearly marked out.

Speaking of Pete, I'm watching him on last night's Colbert right now. He really is an excellent communicator.

Here's what the American public thinks, taken from last night's CBS News/YouGov poll immediately after the speech:

77% support his plan to cut government waste and spending
77% back his immigration and border policies
76% approve of Trump’s speech
76% approve of removing congressmen who interrupted his speech -
74% say his speech was presidential
73% support his stance on Russia and Ukraine -
68% say it made them feel hopeful and proud -
68% say he has a clear plan to tackle inflation -
68% say he accurately described America’s crime crisis -
63% say he focused on issues they care about

I read the same on CNNnews, I am agast that Americans still approve of his decisions, they are not feeling the pinch now, but give a few months down the line they will hurt and hurt they will, those oligarchs who stand with this elected president are carving a niche for themselves , their own future not jo public , they are laughing all the way to the bank and leave others with a begging bowl. We can see it ,how come the voters can't.? Just saying

It's people who watched the speech.

So the audience is not representative of the country.

Imagine someone giving a speech about the right to bear arms at an NRA conference and then they surveyed the people who watched the speech on their views about bearing arms.

He's everything the Dems need in a candidate except straight. Good looking white family man who's intelligent, thoughtful, calm, great communicator, and who has never expressed truly 'extreme' views.

But he could be the Second Coming and he'd never pull in the votes from the right and the more socially conservative Democrats.

Personally, I'm holding out for Eric Adams to throw his hat in the ring 😂

I get that but it's tragic 😥 how people respond to fabricated lies , it appears that they don't see the wood for the trees. What is the long term strategy of the US government divide and conquer .

Shhhhh! Don't give him any ideas! He already knows that Scrotus 'beat the rap' by being reelected.

I see that Cuomo is running for mayor of NYC. That should prove interesting.

Powerful speech by Claude Malhuret, French senator

@BoreOfWhabylon wrong link but I did eventually find it. Powerful indeed. Love the buffoon on ketamine comment but the speed at which the Weimar Republic was taken over was shocking new information. Thank you for suggesting this.
PS the link is to JT’s latest speech to USA/trump/CA

MsJinks · 06/03/2025 06:52

And today he's escalated for Israel - more military aid and the demand for release of all hostages - or terrible consequences.
He's definitely got a different angle to staking a claim to the Nobel Peace Prize than most.

Igotjelly · 06/03/2025 07:07

I don’t often say anything even slightly conciliatory but having now seen Hegseth’s full comments on Fox I actually don’t think he was that unreasonable. He was responding to comments from China and simply said those who long for peace prepare for war, and that the US are prepared. If someone more mainstream had said that I think people would have said it was perfectly reasonable.

Zonder · 06/03/2025 07:27

I posted this elsewhere but last night I felt sick watching the BBC news. Trump saying we are making America rich again followed by a piece on the devastating effect the loss of USAID is having on the Rohingya people.

For Americans to get richer (and let's face it, we know trump doesn't mean the average American will get richer) millions will get poorer and die in their poverty and sickness.

His social media posts read luke something out of The Simpsons. It would be farcical if it weren't so bloody scary.

All his posts are surreal - I have to check if they're spoofs quite a lot!
He's not detailed the peace outcome he wants - he stops at fighting over (and just for today imo) with both Ukraine and Gaza. Of course we know of the Riviera plans 🙈
I'm not commenting on the very complex background to Israel/Gaza but whilst the West has mainly supported Israel it's been from a distance and I think escalating to joining in is a big step - if that's what this means?

Totally agree. It's like a 15 year old having a spat with a school friend and writing on WhatsApp, such juvenile language. The trouble is the more he rants and raves like this, the less that people take any notice because he just sounds completely deranged, it's just noise

MsJinks · 06/03/2025 07:47

Forgot - his dismantling of the Dept of Education will be signed as an EO this week.
Not just international chaos on any one day but internal too.
So sad and worrying.

There was discussion that the Gaza Riviera video was satire/spoof but for some reason I don't fully believe the creator's words here. Maybe it's just their association with Mel Gibson that's a bit suspect or maybe he sounds as AI generated as his work?
