I never got on with the app so just use the mobile version of the site.

Don't tell MNHQ, but since they brought in the ad-blocker blocker I see no ads. I don't have an ad blocker 🤷‍♀️ (and I see ads on other sites).

Same - ssshhhh!

InMySpareTime · 13/03/2025 08:39

I don’t have an ad blocker and all the ad spaces are ads for Mumsnet.
Managed to adjust my settings to mostly where they were, but there’s still no Dark Mode option on the app. It’s the only text thing on my phone not in dark mode.

BIWI · 13/03/2025 08:41

They’re working on that, apparently.

I’ve never really liked using the app, but as most of the time I’m on MN I’m at home/in easy reach of my laptop it’s not been an issue.

I’ll have to try it on my iPad though, as using MN on that (with safari) had become impossible.

BestIsWest · 13/03/2025 08:42

I use the website on an iPad too, never got on with the app.

No, but thanks for the reminder - now added to my list!

NHS waiting lists have fallen again - 5th month in a row and we are still in winter where you expect them to be higher.

And here's the BBC link about that story:

The government is abolishing NHS England and NHS will be brought back under direct political control of DHSC.

About time too. The amount of duplication has been outrageous. It’s a very sensible move. Its creation was part of Lansley’s lunatic 2012 health bill.

PandoraSox · 13/03/2025 11:37

Absolutely the right decision.

But I feel sorry for the people who will lose their jobs. Some could be transferred to DHSC, but as the civil service will be cut too, I don't know that will be possible.

cardibach · 13/03/2025 11:40

It’s always bad when people lose their jobs, but when the jobs are wasteful duplicates unavoidable I guess. We need to give some thought to what to do about areas where jobs will go as a result of AI too. Big structural changes needed. Time to consider UBI?

pointythings · 13/03/2025 11:45

NHS England is a nightmare and I will be glad to see it go.

I also use the mobile site, not the app.

I use the website on safari on my iPad without any issues. I only use the app on my mobile.

Notonthestairs · 13/03/2025 12:10

Extraordinary really that NHS England wasn't abolished previously - I suppose an unwillingness to acknowledge the damage of the Health and Social Care Act.
I understood the idea behind it (a lot of wishful thinking) but the overlapping and duplication of work must have been obvious years ago.

BIossomtoes · 13/03/2025 12:14

the overlapping and duplication of work must have been obvious years ago.

It was obvious at its inception. I was working in the NHS during the enactment of the Act in 2012/13, the increase in bureaucracy was eye watering.

placemats · 13/03/2025 12:34

It's a great decision to abolish NHS England and should have been done years ago - certainly there was the appetite to do so amongst many Tory MPs.

Don't worry though, Tory supporting MN posters are complaining!!

Best news for long time, now get to work on the mirid of private companies, who have employed NHS staff to deliver community services, like OT, Physio MH... mass duplication in back office functions and management.

This Tory’s not complaining. The government should hack down a lot more of the public sector.

Needs to thought through, some aspects of the public sector need more staff, more investment ie HMRC and some aspects of the EA...

I'd also like to see more Consumer protect, Public health and Health food standards at Council level, all been slashed over recent years to the point that a Council will tell a complainant to go to CIB... a charity for advice...

Let's be a hell of a lot smarter about it than the folks in the US though.

Zonder · 13/03/2025 15:54

Jealous. I'm still getting ads. What am I doing wrong?

Another here who’s pleased NHS England.

that’s railways and healthcare.

Absolutely they can restructure those staff elsewhere where we need more boots on the ground rather than where we have 5 pairs of boots doing the same walk.
