Question time is interesting. Tice sounding like a fifth rate Trump, almost word for word. He even has the shouting at and over people down to a tee.

Trump appears to be his idol. I wonder if he can actually hear himself. Twat.

Ooo he’s getting some stick for the (rightly). I thought I quite liked him. May have to have a rethink. What a daft thing to say - and an even dafter justification about instrumental lessons. Pretty sure you can pay for private ones for rather less than a whole private school education costs plus, of course, before austerity state school pupils got free ones - and often the loan of an instrument too.

BestIsWest · 07/03/2025 10:41

Wow, tone deaf interview there.

PandoraSox · 07/03/2025 10:42

I thought he was a decent bloke. Not now!

Pun of the week goes to @BestIsWest 🤣

Bigham · 07/03/2025 10:45

Needs to cut down on the avocados and lattes then.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 07/03/2025 10:51

I'm fairly sure neither of my sons went to private school yet magically they did get both get music lessons. One is already in a musical career, the other is on his final year at Uni (doing music).
Rather ill informed pointless? comments from AA.
I'm afraid I've rather gone off him too after that interview.

Notonthestairs · 07/03/2025 10:53

What a fool he's made of himself. Likely to be one of the BBC's highest paid presenters given the length of time he's been there and considers himself poor.
'Tone deaf' Grin

Found this in the Telegraph about BBC salaries:

As for Alexander Armstrong? The BBC pays independent production companies between £20,000 and £130,000 per episode for a daytime entertainment show. On a long running show like Pointless, there may be deals either way, one producer explains. “If you’ve got a long lasting contract for lots of episodes over a number of years that’s valuable security in these troubled times so the Corporation is going to be pushing for a bulk discount while the indie is pushing for an increase as the show is vital to daytime,” he says.

He speculates that Richard Osman and Armstrong would be on £20,000 per episode, possibly less. Osman has reduced his appearances but was involved in devising the format so would earn from overseas sales and production fees. With recent seasons running to 55 episodes, however, £20,000 a pop means trousering a cool £1.1 million for Armstrong.

BestIsWest · 07/03/2025 11:01

Both my DC did GCSE music in a state school. DS earns some money from it too although I wouldn’t call him a professional.

BIossomtoes · 07/03/2025 11:03

Armstrong will have lost a lot of popularity with this. Idiot.

PickAChew · 07/03/2025 11:05

That's more per episode than many people earn in a year.

Oh, poor Alexander, you'd best scour the charity shops for a good disguise if ever you wish to set foot in Durham or any of the North East again.

Hasn’t he got a book to plug?

Llttledrummergirl · 07/03/2025 11:06

My dc could have gone to private school and still come out unable to play an instrument.
They loved the idea of it, but not the practice needed. Fortunately they have other skills in life and hobbies/sports/interests they enjoy.

Had they shown any enjoyment in the process of learning to play an instrument, then they would have been supported to do so, even without private school.

Actually - my DD had free instrumental lessons in a state school in Wales in the 2010s so it took a while to bleed out of the system. She was similarly disinclined to practice but has continued with singing as her musical outlet.

countrygirl99 · 07/03/2025 12:05

My neice (20) had singing and instrument lessons at her state school and now teaches singing.
