He truly is the spawn of the devil.

The context here is that in the article he’s said he ‘feels poor’ as a result of these changes. Whether or not anyone agrees with the changes that’s a ridiculous and tone deaf thing to say, wouldn’t you agree?

He’s got the desired reaction…publicity. He writes books for 9 year olds and has one out now I think.

cardibach · 07/03/2025 13:16

I’m not sure whether that makes his comments better or worse, @derxa
If he’s cynically using farm IHT to make money from something else that’s grim don't you think?

Probably. I may be way off here but I get the impression that very few on these threads are’poor’ themselves.

Notonthestairs · 07/03/2025 13:21

He's got a recording studio in his basement along with a purpose built wine cellar. I'm sure he's fine for school fees.

Appreciate that people think all publicity is good - I'm not convinced that is always the case.

Why is that relevant ?

toooldforbrat · 07/03/2025 13:25

It probably isn’t. Just an observation gathered from years of reading. The MP has usually (before this election) been a Tory. I’m picturing the leafy shires.

Well I am certainly not rolling in it, but not on the breadline either. Does that mean I can or can't crisis AA for being an arse?

The fact that he is yet another celebrity writing shite children's books irks me too.

Notonthestairs · 07/03/2025 13:39

Oh please. He was complaining about feeling "extremely poor". Dress it up how ever you like but nobody with his career & property is "extremely poor". It's utter nonsense.

His wife and servants might be ?

Hyperbole. He’s from a well off semi-aristocrat family. How do you expect him to be?

Notonthestairs · 07/03/2025 13:50

He's not 'extremely poor'.

derxa · 07/03/2025 13:54

Notonthestairs · 07/03/2025 13:50

No he’s not. He’s extremely rich. Why are people taking him seriously? Why are people always sorted into the good pile and the bad pile on here?

Notonthestairs · 07/03/2025 14:02

I guess if you start giving interviews to national newspapers complaining that you feel extremely poor when you are not you will get some pushback.
He's a big boy. I'm sure he understood what he was saying.

I expect him not to claim to be poor.

Just like I don't recall anyone on this thread claiming to be poor, whatever their means.

Never a good thing to get a feature in APILN

So it was all just a daft jape then ? No one’s saying he’s good or bad. He might donate thousands to charity, who knows, but suggesting that his family are struggling is clearly ludicrous. I suppose what he does mean is that they don’t have as much money as before but they aren’t on the breadline and it was an ill timed comment designed to further rile Telegraph readers.

Why he loathes tribal politics, the irony 😂

dontcallmelen · 07/03/2025 14:58

Alexander Armstrong comes over as a complete knob can’t imagine him scrabbling around for loose change down the back of sofa & the music lessons seems a bit of tenuous reason for private schooling, my dgd came home last week with a Cornett as the school has been given a grant from the local council for extra instruments, I’m not in the leafy shires we live in south east London.
yy celebrity writing shite childrens books does really annoy me.

Piggywaspushed · 07/03/2025 16:14

Some counties have extremely strong music services - but it is true cuts are really taking that axe to the arts in schools.(and unis)

I read somewhere recently that most bands (the types who can play instruments not manufactured bands) have been privately educated.

Piggywaspushed · 07/03/2025 16:15

But, yes, Armstrong is a grade A arse.

We aren’t saying we are though - and I’m certainly considerably less well off than Armstrong. It’s irrelevant though. Him saying he ‘feels poor’ is ridiculous. He’s using schools and farmers for publicity.

Piggywaspushed · 07/03/2025 16:23

Talking of farmers (look away Derxa), I was behind a bus that had a No Farmers No Food ad on it this morning. Nothing said it was an ad or its source. It looked rather like Stagecoach were promoting the farmers' cause. I'd say the same if this was Just Stop Oil.... are there rules around this?

placemats · 07/03/2025 16:29

Apparently one of Armstrong's children in private school has SEND. Within Cheshire, which is a large county, and where I live, there's four private schools that have SEND provision - two in Cheshire West and two in Cheshire East.

I've no idea where he lives but would think that this is probably reflective throughout the country.

He is being disengenuos complaining about his so called poverty.
