I dunno what I'm starting this thread for, tbh. I just really, really felt like I wanted to click a button saying I support Zelensky and reject Trump and Putin tonight.

I vote for Zelensky but I'm on the app.
Listening back on the radio this morning and Trump and Vance bullying him over not wearing a bloody suit! It's like two playground bullies bullying the kid who isn't wearing the latest trainers. Despicable pair of fuckwits 😡😡😡

It’s like watching a bullied child being blamed for being bullied and told if you accept intervention or help everyone else will bully you.

Z is not responsible for possible WW3, P and now T is.

I get providing aid and help is a stress factor but Ukraine have suffered greatly at the hands of a hungry dictator. I don’t buy the propaganda, I think P & T struck a deal prior to T’s run for president and he’s following through.

I also think T is an unwell man.

I’d still prefer him to live until the end if his term, though. With him gone, the US gets Vance and he’s even worse.

I think there should be a cease fire, I don’t agree that Trump is on Putin’s side, he just wants the war to be over and an agreement with both sides. Unfortunately Zelensky spoke as if Americans weren’t giving Ukrainian help with weapons and intelligence. So realistically that is probably going to end.

But Trump is a great admirer of Putin and it could be argued, a strong ally. Russia want and need trump in the WH. I’d say he is very much on Russia’s side and has been for some time. He is certainly helping advance Russian interests.

Adropintheocean1 · 01/03/2025 10:44

Trump just doesn’t like the fact Zelenskyy doesn’t lick his a**e, bow down to him and thank him profusely publicly. It’s all about his ego. Ukraine are the clear victims, but really Zelenskyy should just be more savvy and give trump the ego boost his so desperately craves to ensure Ukraine are supported. Watching Starmer swoon over trump was utterly cringeworthy but it is smart.

Watch the 50 minute press conference video and the Marco Rubio interview with CNN, you can’t get an agreement with someone by insulting them.

I had to walk out of the room. I could not listen to it all. What immoral, bullying, power loving sick people Trump and Vance revealed themselves to be, right out in plain sight.

Zelensky is a leader who stayed with his country to fight, when he could have fled. We all know that if Trump or Vance were in that situation they would have been on the first flight out.

To hear them demanding gratitude, when they should be supporting Ukraine to stop a power hungry, land grabbing dictator, was just utterly sickening.

What truly awful people.

I had to turn the radio off as I couldn’t bear to listen. It was dreadful and everyone who voted for Trump and his henchmen must be wondering now why on earth they did. It is very frightening.

Damnloginpopup · 01/03/2025 11:19

Zelensky's face said it all. It was an incredulous WTAF expression.

Mine was the same.

I gather most of the worlds was the same.

Vance is worse but I don't think he has the cult status and unwavering support of the American people.
I would quite like Trump to go to prison for something and continue as president from there.

As the parent of a teenage boy who would no doubt be enlisted in the army if this comes to world war 3, I want peace.
We have a friend married to a Ukrainian. They are from the east, in the part that was coloured red on the map when this whole fiasco started. Some of their family consider themselves Russian and welcomed Putins advances at least at the start, I suspect once the bombs started they may have changed their tune…this conflict has its roots going back centuries, and I don’t really see why we, about like the Isle of Wight on the world wide scale have to go getting involved. We have enough home grown problems to deal with without getting our sons sent to die in someone else’s war. Whatever brings peace quickest is what I vote for.

@user7894320974
If one day they come here, will you also vote for whatever brings the peace quickest, even if it means UK disappearing, or becoming a Russian satellite state? Will you vote for your sons living in a country like Belarus, without democracy and free elections?
Because this will be the best case scenario for Ukraine, if Zelensky accepts peace on Putin’s conditions. They won’t just keep the land they took. All this talk about Zelensky being a dictator shows their intentions clearly. They want to get rid of Zelenskyy and install somebody like Lukashenko. Ukraine will be a free country only in name.
As a person who grew up in a communist country, I wouldn’t want this for my son and daughter.
This is the best case scenario but do you think he is going to stop at Ukraine?
Ukraine is the biggest country Putin invaded, but is not the first one. Do you remember what happened to Georgia? He got away with destroying the independence of that country and now has reached for something bigger.
Having independent Ukraine is crucial to preserving the independence of other European countries.

Vance has a shrewd handle on how Trump got people to vote for him though. It's in his book, written before he got taken on board.

Meddling with pliable strategically important countries is classic US foreign policy playbook. They've been doing it forever. They're just not usually as open about it. The mask slipped yesterday and the world got a glimpse of what numerous people around the globe have had a taste of.

Zelenskyy's face was like Joe Pesci in Goodfellas, where he thinks he's going to get made and instead gets a bullet. That moment of realisation, recognising the ambush after the long play, that's the same scales-falling moment that happened with Nicaragua, with Iraq, with Chile, with El Salvador, and every country the US has fucked over with their so-called nation-building.

It would have been the same, only slower and more subtle, if Harris had won. Zelenskyy was a patsy, Ukraine was a pawn.

Ukraine has been invaded.

Do you think that if Canada invaded the US, that Trump would just hand it over or would he fight back?

I was thinking about this. Wouldn’t it be great if Canada built a wall?! 🤣

dottiehens · 01/03/2025 16:44

I did not see so many Zelensky supporters when Boris Johnson was PM and backing Ukraine. I perhaps should pull out some interesting threads about that time.

noblegiraffe · 01/03/2025 16:49

As far as I can remember people have always supported Ukraine and admired Zelensky.

Just watching Starmer and Zelensky on TV. I really hope zelensky offers the mineral deal to the UK instead of the US. Starmer to steal it from under the nose of Trump.

Perhaps in the short term but for anyone who has dealt with a bully, it's only a matter of time before they turn on you again and either demand or humiliate you more. Eventually Trump with ask KIng Charles to hand over his crown and Buckingham palace as a 'gift', I'm joking but also not.

GildedRage · 01/03/2025 18:30

I think the current USA administration has shown it’s true colors and increasingly is behaving desperately, which equally borders on dangerously.
The current administration can’t be trusted and I believe a swift move to turn away from any USA contracts and deals is necessary.
Not that any deals and contracts are binding anyway.
