People liking your posts?

JC03745 · 24/02/2025 10:17

Last year, I noticed that 1 user, was liking (with the emoji) nearly every post I commented on. They often didn't make any comments within the thread and it felt like they'd gone through my history and liked every comment I made!

MNHQ looked into it, but said it was a genuine user who maybe just 'liked' lots of posts! I name changed, and now the same person is doing it again!

Does anyone else notice 'likes' from the same person/people on all their posts? Do you, yourself, do this and like every post someone makes? If so- why?

OP posts:

I use the app and I like the simplicity 😂 similar to having a TV with one simple remote and normal light switches that you don't have to involve Alexa.

JC03745 · 24/02/2025 20:16

It shouldn't matter even if it is.
The OP was advised to name change last time and they could easily name change again.
Sorted.

Yes you did suggest I name change again.

Yes, I suggested it. I didn't say you should?

No-one here cares enough to tell you what you should/shouldn't do.

But regular name changing as was suggested last time, will solve your 'problem'.

Another way to solve it would be to stop looking at who likes your posts.

BoudiccaRising · 24/02/2025 20:33

What/where was the other thread?

Very similar to this one and MNHQ even looked into it for the OP (mentioned in the opening post of this thread).

Also, what this thread has taught me is there is a lot of stuff about MN I don’t know. How would you know whether a poster has started another thread about the same thing? Or how would you know if they changed their username?

You could guess if someone changed their name based on their writing style, topics they're on, topics they've started. I guess you'd have to interact with a lot of threads to spot that. The other one is if you've read one thread on Tuesday and on the Thursday you read the same situation - you kind of put two and two together.

This is putting me off now…….

Don't let it put you off.

The OP's last thread on this subject put a few people off too, or at least made them worry about how their likes would be taken.

But the truth is, most people don't know or care who reacts to their posts, and why would they?

That’s what I thought that no one probably put much thought into it.

If I agree with a poster I just liked their comment but now it’s making me wonder after this thread…..if the OP is being targeted

Exactly what I thought! I only go on threads that are of interest, I don’t have the headspace to think of changing names etc. Life is complicated enough without coming on here and thinking that your likes could be misconstrued. I also have realised that there is a lot about MN that I also don’t know, I have never thought that I would need to know anymore than how to get around the site & how to respond to threads.

Even when that happens you have to click again to choose the reaction so whilst it's annoying I don't think it contributes to lots of unintended reactions does it?

If I notice I click off it to cancel... It is surprisingly easy to react and not really notice if your scrolling quickly

missdeamenor · 25/02/2025 06:06

I can see how this would get a bit annoying. I have a user who disagrees with every post I make.

EleanorReally · 25/02/2025 06:07

no but i find it very odd that old posts have been liked, one from 2019

EleanorReally · 25/02/2025 06:16

there are no likes any more
it is thanks, Agree, Love Laugh

BreatheAndFocus · 25/02/2025 06:25

I like quite a lot of posts that I agree with. I don’t like posts from particular people, although occasionally I recognise a name or, more often, like more than one post in a thread from the same person, eg in a discussion where they make a number of points I agree with.

What I do notice is that most (?) people don’t seem to give likes at all. I’ve just liked a post in this thread (because it represented my own view and I agreed with it) but I can’t see any other liked posts.

I very much doubt anyone is stalking you, OP! I get likes for my posts and sometimes see that it’s a person who’s liked my posts before, but that means absolutely nothing! I imagine they simply agree with what I’ve written.

Some people are Likers (like me), some people aren’t. It’s not a problem.

My phone doesn't give an option to like posts, or see if anyone has liked posts, so this may be why others aren't liking posts, they can't see the feature.
I've a few times got an email notification my posts have been reacted to but can't see within the app what any reaction is.

Killam · 25/02/2025 06:36

You can only see your own likes, @BreatheAndFocus . It's just between you and the poster you "liked" - nobody else can see them.

I like that it's private actually! Makes it more authentic and not performative.

Yes I'd hate it if it was public, would go the way of FB and insta if it was visible how many likes a post got. That's why I used to like Snapchat because only I could see who had viewed my stories and people couldn't go down a rabbit hole on me. Shame it got destroyed by clickbait, ASMR & adverts.

I don’t think she is being targeted just paranoid as the same poster is liking her posts over multiple name changes. Like minded people will click on similar threads and agree with you multiple times if you have the same opinions. It’s really not that deep.

Not really. That does seem rather weird?! Write something really horrible that nobody would really like, then see if they like it? If so they must be obsessed with you! Do you think it could be someone IRL who recognises you?

It's probably someone who has liked a few of their posts and perhaps looked up their username and saw a post from a few years back where perhaps the liker had found some useful Information is which it is more likely to be.

TY78910 · 25/02/2025 12:05

@Oioisavaloy27 can you look up people by username?

Yes you can, I do if I feel someone is not being truthful I will look at their posting history to decide if I want to contribute with a one liner or not as I don't want to waste my time advising someone who is untruthful.

How do you do that? For the same reason, I’ve tried putting someone’s username into the search bar before but it didn’t work

DetectiveSleuth · 25/02/2025 12:34

I’ve never thought to check who likes my posts.

It doesn’t work on the ordinary search, you have to type the username into advanced search. I don’t see the point of the search bar, it doesn’t even work.

caramac04 · 25/02/2025 12:40

Eeek! I often like a post if I agree with what the poster has said. Often don’t really notice the name.
Apologies if I’ve been a stalker.

Time for a bit of JC03745gathaChristie..

Oh that doesn’t quite work. Are you a wag @JC03745 , can you become one, it’d work much better..
