People liking your posts?

Last year, I noticed that 1 user, was liking (with the emoji) nearly every post I commented on. They often didn't make any comments within the thread and it felt like they'd gone through my history and liked every comment I made!

MNHQ looked into it, but said it was a genuine user who maybe just 'liked' lots of posts! I name changed, and now the same person is doing it again!

Does anyone else notice 'likes' from the same person/people on all their posts? Do you, yourself, do this and like every post someone makes? If so- why?

I am more of a lurker than a poster and I do like posts periodically - as pp have said, to show I agree/thank them for sharing that viewpoint. I don't really notice the name of whoever's post it is.

Anonym00se · 24/02/2025 18:07

I like it when I see the same names liking my posts. I reckon we’d be great mates in real life!

That's how I see it as well.

PleaseCanIWeeAlone · 24/02/2025 18:09

The first time the reaction option appeared I didn't realize you only saw yours, I had a number of responses to one post and couldn't work out why my comment has received such a response.

I'm a bit thick sometimes.

ginasevern · 24/02/2025 18:09

I rarely clock the username on any post I like or anyone who likes my own posts - unless it's a particularly funny/unusual name. I would be somewhat disconcerted by the same person liking everything I posted. Especially as Mumsnet covers such a wide range of subjects. If it was a sub-thread on one niche topic it would be more understandable, but still a bit odd.

EatingHealthy · 24/02/2025 18:10

I don't look at either the usernames of posts I'm 'liking' or of the people responding to my posts.

Your posts are more likely to be liked by me if you're often an early poster or if you happen to have responded close in time to when I responded, since they're the posts I'm most likely to read (in addition to all the OP's posts).

MiniPumpkin · 24/02/2025 18:11

I’m a wee bit paranoid about all my ‘likes’ now 🤣

Sounds like a stalker. I would report to the police.

Huh

I don't look at usernames, or the the emojis hardly ever, not do I go back and look at comments I made. It would pass me by

It would probably pass most people by unless your ultra paranoid.

Yes I've noticed particular posters liking my posts.
I change my user name very often but there are still some posters who often like my posts , particularly on certain subjects, whatever user name I use

I've always assumed that its just that they share a certain view point with me and that they probably " like" posts by the other posters who express similar opinions.

It's also potentially the posts you go on.

So if you always go on post about a certain subject, there's probably equally well others that go on posts about that subject. So they'll be more likely to read and like your post.
For example I would rarely go on the style stuff because I don't find it interesting, but I do enjoy the children's books topic because I collect children's books.

thismummydrinksgin · 24/02/2025 18:23

How do we even 'like' posts?

saraclara · 24/02/2025 18:28

I'm guessing these are the same people who like every status they read on Facebook.

I only ever tap on an emoji when I read a particularly articulate and intelligent post (that I agree with). I spend far too much time on Mumsnet, but still will only like/thank/whatever one or two posts a day (if that).

So if I emoji you, you should feel honoured!

I use the app where currently you can't see likes. Do most people view MN on a browser?

People who want the functionality of the site id imagine do. What do do find are the positives of the app?

I dont look at user names if I like a post or the emails about likes so it could be me

Yeah I use the app to read threads through the day (I spend probably too much time here) and the layout is smooth, you do a bit less clicking.

however if I do get involved and someone quotes me, then I have to open it in the browser so I can quote them back 🙄 and in that time I might like something I’ve read and I really agree with

DutifulDaughterWifeMother · 24/02/2025 18:32

OP do you go and look at who is liking your posts every time? I am just wondering how you would know.

I will like a post if I like/agree with the post & if it is something along the lines of what I would respond.

I am wondering now if maybe I should stop liking posts? I don’t even look at the usernames just the comment!

I like to RTFT and 9 times out of 10 I don’t leave a comment as other posters have said what I was thinking hence the likes from me.

This is putting me off now…….

Does MN email you when you get a reaction to your post?

I used to get emails when I was quoted or tagged but I unsubscribed, so not sure how it works with reactions.

I have tried the app in the past but found it to be pretty bad, I'm I interested in less clicking, how does that work?

Don't let it put you off.

The OP's last thread on this subject put a few people off too, or at least made them worry about how their likes would be taken.

But the truth is, most people don't know or care who reacts to their posts, and why would they?

saraclara · 24/02/2025 18:35

I get emails telling me that people have reacted to my post. But I rarely look to see how many or who

I hope that's a joke. Thing is I've been on here so long I can't tell anymore.

Floralnomad · 24/02/2025 18:36

I’ve noticed the same person on a few threads but I assume we just share similar views , I don’t think anybody is stalking me .

Yeah, there are certain posters who tend to "like" my posts on particular topics, so I assume we just share similar viewpoints on those topics.

But there are a couple who seem to "like" my posts on all manner of topics, and under multiple user names. Those are the people where I think we'd probably be really good mates if we knew each other!

Unless I'm deluded and those posters just "like" absolutely everything they read!😂

Not sure if I can explain it properly but you can swipe right to come off a threat, all the threads you’re on or watching are in one tab on the bottom as opposed to clicking in the top right hand corner to get to the drop down menu. The menu is basically at the bottom of the app and it’s displayed in a more concise way

People liking your posts?
Sulu17 · 24/02/2025 18:43

I have noticed that there's a couple of posters who like my posts fairly often, and I just assumed we must be on a similar wavelength. There's one poster whose posts I admire and I was rather chuffed when she liked my post once. Jeez I must get out more 😐

Miaowzabella · 24/02/2025 18:43

I wouldn't notice, to be honest, but if I did it wouldn't bother me. It's an anonymous forum. The 'stalker' is not going to turn up on your doorstep with a bunch of flowers or a machete.
