People liking your posts?

JC03745 · 24/02/2025 10:17

Last year, I noticed that 1 user, was liking (with the emoji) nearly every post I commented on. They often didn't make any comments within the thread and it felt like they'd gone through my history and liked every comment I made!

MNHQ looked into it, but said it was a genuine user who maybe just 'liked' lots of posts! I name changed, and now the same person is doing it again!

Does anyone else notice 'likes' from the same person/people on all their posts? Do you, yourself, do this and like every post someone makes? If so- why?

Hope its not me. I don't look at the user name when I press agree or thanks or even funny. I just react to the post.

Me too.

WeAllHaveWings · 24/02/2025 18:50

I switch off the notifications if anyone reacts to my posts and don't notice when using app (Mn on safari hasn't worked for me for months now)

I might notice sometimes when using the desktop, but I never check who........ don't get why anyone would unless you are part of an long running support thread and kind of know the posters, but then it would make sense they reacted.

It shouldn't matter even if it is.

The OP was advised to name change last time and they could easily name change again.

Sorted.

ThejoyofNC · 24/02/2025 19:07

I react to a lot of posts, usually either thumbs up or laughing face. But I never bother to read the names of people who like mine.

madamweb · 24/02/2025 19:11

I react a lot Blush it's not stalky I promise it's just my way of showing agreement/amusement! I often don't really look at who is posting so could easily look stalky by mistake!
I don't really check who likes or reacts to my posts though, I see the reactions but I don't check who they are from...

SunsetCocktails · 24/02/2025 19:12

I use the app so I couldn't tell you who's liking (or not liking) my posts, and that's fine with me.

HelenCurlyBrown · 24/02/2025 19:18

saraclara · 24/02/2025 18:35

I get emails telling me that people have reacted to my post. But I rarely look to see how many or who

You can switch off that annoying stuff.

I never look at either user names, or who’s liked posts.

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 24/02/2025 19:28

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 24/02/2025 15:51

I speed read threads and will like loads of posts. Saves me replying just to basically say "I agree"

I just hit "agree" for your post!

I will do it when I feel someone has said something I am thinking, or brought up a good point, or been funny that I laughed. I don't notice usernames in general but have noticed that there are a few posters who seem to make good points more often than others. But, I only read a handful of threads a day and can go a few days when I don't read any.

Lampzade · 24/02/2025 19:31

I honestly don’t check to find out who liked my posts

KezzaMucklowe · 24/02/2025 19:35

I don't remember who likes my posts either.
OP, have you got a spreadsheet?

JC03745 · 24/02/2025 19:47

Thanks everyone. Interesting to see others opinions and that others have also had similar. To clarify some questions:

  • Yes, maybe the person just agrees with me or we have similar views. I post in a variety of different topics, so can't understand how this person knows where I've posted, other than tracking my history
  • I too often thank/agree with others posts and don't look at who wrote it
  • I don't click on the thumbs up to see who reacted
  • Daily, I get an email 'Someone reacted to your post' which, if I open it, gives me a list of people that have used the emoji on a comment I've made. Its just stark, when of say 9 comments I've made that day, 8 have been this the exact, same user. They did the same, prior to my my last name change and no, I don't keep a spreadsheet.
  • I assume they just 'like' lots of posts and presumably not just mine. I really don't think my comments are that interesting!
  • No- so far, this user hasn't commented on this post

@ShamrockShenanigans - Why should I keep changing my username? It made no difference last time.

The most annoying thing is when people click the LOLing emoji to be mocking and sarcastic. That's nasty.

But yeah, it is a bit odd for randoms like every post you put on. Doesn't happen to me.

Edited

I sometimes click on that if a post is funny.

I didn't say you should? 😳

But this is the second thread you've started about this so you obviously have a problem that would be solved by regular name changing 🤷‍♂️

So the same person is reacting to your posts even when you’ve changed your username? Well that makes no sense that they would be looking through your history to track you down then.

BoudiccaRising · 24/02/2025 20:01

Who even opens emails from Mumsnet? Let alone ones that say ‘someone has reacted to your post’ 😆

QueenOfHiraeth · 24/02/2025 20:06

I also see e-mails that someone liked my post but rarely look any further.

I did look this week though as I didn't remember a thread title, only to find someone had liked a post from 2012 which was under an old username.
I forgave myself for not remembering 😂

sometimesmovingforwards · 24/02/2025 20:09

theboffinsarecoming · 24/02/2025 15:51

I barely notice when people have liked or otherwise responded to my posts. Every now and then I get an email telling me X number of people have reacted, but I rarely look at the totals, and I almost never go to look and find out which posters have done so.

I’ve liked you post and quoted it.
But you’ll know that when you get an email notification through 😁😂

StarlightLady · 24/02/2025 20:12

I have people liking posts and l suspect they are on the dame though processes cum mindset as me. I certainly don’t see anything sinister in it.

Agreed. I never said they have kept tracking me through name changes. I can only assume they 'like' multiple peoples posts, or have potentially looked at recent posts in my new name? I have no idea- hence asking if others have seen the same.

Even when that happens you have to click again to choose the reaction so whilst it's annoying I don't think it contributes to lots of unintended reactions does it?

What/where was the other thread?

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 24/02/2025 20:35

It's not me is it op? You're making me paranoid 😂 I like ALOT of posts in the course of a day 😂
I go through MN binges that last months on end then inexplicably for no reason whatsoever don't go on the site for 6 months...... until the next binge!

MyUmberSeal · 24/02/2025 20:37

Also, what this thread has taught me is there is a lot of stuff about MN I don’t know. How would you know whether a poster has started another thread about the same thing? Or how would you know if they changed their username?
