What are your favourite cities that you've visited within continental Europea?

I haven't been to many. Just Paris and Geneva. I liked Geneva more.

OP posts:

Malaga
Lisbon
Prague
Krakow
Seville

PleaseAndThankYou12 · 17/02/2025 02:54

Lyon
Kraków
Bratislava
Split
Berlin
Budapest

All for different reasons Smile I do love Paris, but it's a second home for me. Are you planning some travel OP?

Friendproblem123 · 17/02/2025 02:56

I'm in Cordoba right now and it's a beautiful city with a fascinating history. Weather's glorious too!

Stresa in Lake Maggiore

We love cafes in big squares and interesting architecture.

Icanttakethisanymore · 17/02/2025 04:35

Barcelona!

Mercurial123 · 17/02/2025 04:44

Florence, but in off-season to avoid the crowds.

Dolamroth · 17/02/2025 04:50

Florence and Modena. Italy wins for me, it's the best.

MinnieMountain · 17/02/2025 05:03

I’m currently at Baden-Baden station after a weekend there. I’m already planning my return trip 😁

Also love Rome.

LindorDoubleChoc · 17/02/2025 05:51

Porto, Seville, Cadiz, Munich, Bruges have stood out for me and I would happily go back to them all.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 17/02/2025 05:56

I've just had a lovely week in Copenhagen.

LillyPJ · 17/02/2025 05:58

Budapest is fantastic. Granada. Berlin (though it's many years since I went there).

I think there's some that you should go to at least once. Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Amsterdam just to experience the main sights

But then there's the cities that you just fall for and think in another life you could live there. My current faves are Porto, Venice, Bruges, Bologna, Santiago, also Annecy in France which isn't a city but just the most perfect town ever.

Sskka · 17/02/2025 07:36

Lovely question. It got me thinking what are the features I really want most from a city. I decided it’s:

• a vast pedestrian area, giving you tons of routes to walk
• with irregular buildings to keep your eye interested
• tight streets, not in straight lines for the same reason
• which have lots of little details at street level like shop windows, courtyards, ornamental doorways
• and lots of people in them

On that basis the best cities are in Italy. Rome, Venice and Florence especially.

ThatArtfulOpalPoet · 17/02/2025 07:42

Nice choices! Geneva is super pretty with the lake and mountains. Paris is amazing too, but I get why you liked Geneva more—it’s a bit more chill. Are there any other cities you’d want to check out in Europe? Barcelona or Amsterdam could be cool spots to visit next!

reluctantbrit · 17/02/2025 07:46

Stockholm
Seville
Bruges
Florence
Amsterdam
Paris

I also enjoyed Berlin and Prague but don't think I would necessarily go again. We have been to Berlin for over a week though, if it had been just a weekend trip it would be different.

Rome was interesting but for me far too busy and chaotic.

wooliegloves · 17/02/2025 07:50

This threads invariably just turn into long lists 😆

nitrofueled · 17/02/2025 07:51

Hamburg
Dresden
Lubeck
Strasbourg
Krakow
Barcelona

wooliegloves · 17/02/2025 07:53

Not sure if it counts but Istanbul.

Santasbigredbobblehat · 17/02/2025 07:54

Budapest. I love it there.
More recently though I could see myself living in Lisbon or Valencia.

Gumbo · 17/02/2025 07:56

Ghent

I really dislike Paris and if I can avoid ever going there again I will, there's hundreds of nicer cities out there.

Florence, but in off-season to avoid the crowds.

Florence is my favourite but also love ...

Barcelona
Rome
Oporto
Lisbon

I absolutely loved Florence. If I win the lottery, I'll move there! I'm really fond of the Scandinavian capitals too, but they're pricey.
