What are your favourite cities that you've visited within continental Europea?

I haven't been to many. Just Paris and Geneva. I liked Geneva more.

I absolutely love Krakow. I’ve been to Warsaw too and really liked it, the mix of the (rebuilt) old town and more soviet era buildings were so interesting. There’s a very cool arty district too. I’m planning a grip to Gdansk soon so hopefully will have an equally good experience there.
Copenhagen and Nice were also fun and beautiful, but more pricy.

Vienna. I'd love to go back after we honeymooned there almost 20 years ago. We saw all we wanted to see in the 10 days we were there but I'm sure there are lots of different things going on now.

We went to Prague and Budapest for a long weekend in our younger years. I'd love to go back to both but I'm sure they're more touristy than they were more than 20 years ago.

Loved cadiz- found an unexpected medieval amphitheatre near the port which was lovely and free to walk around
Loved rome- the art, the art and the art.
Loved Orleans - beautiful white stone architecture

Hated paris- found the moulin rouge very tacky, which I was disappointed with, though the museums were good.

Many of the cities mentioned I have visited and I would go back to Barcelona as didn't see everything I wanted to. However it does have one of the highest crime rates.

Just back from Prague and if you love art, history and architecture it had all of that. Cobbled streets, beautiful buildings and sculptures galore. Not as expensive as other major European cities too. 3 nights was sufficient time and by April/May it will be really pleasant temperature

Ghent

I really dislike Paris and if I can avoid ever going there again I will, there's hundreds of nicer cities out there.

I think Paris can be a very difficult city for visitors. Too many tourist traps. I had the same experience as you on many weekend visits. I was permanently disappointed. Then I had the opportunity to live there for two periods of six months and I totally revised my opinion. The beauty of it lies in getting to know your local quartier.

Btw I had the total opposite experience in Avignon! Absolutely gorgeous as a visitor but quite scary living there as a single woman!

Glad to see someone's put Belgrade. It's not the prettiest or for the faint hearted but if you're bored of the usual Rome/Paris/Prague/Barcelona circuit, it's definitely worth a visit with a lot to do and see.

My other faves are Porto, Naples, Marseilles and Aix.

Paris is France's least best city IMO, closely followed by Avignon, and I've never known anyone go to Barcelona (except me) without being mugged. I'm glad I've done both plenty of times and never need to do them again.

I loved Rome, Bologna, Venice, Berlin, Barcelona, Llubljana, Budapest, Paris, Bilbao.

Was less keen on Florence, Dublin, Verona, Copenhagen.
