What are your favourite cities that you've visited within continental Europea?

I haven't been to many. Just Paris and Geneva. I liked Geneva more.

I've just had a lovely week in Copenhagen.

How cold is it at the time of the year?

I really want to do Vienna. Seems very safe. Idk why, but I worry about getting mugged in Barcelona.

@Mercurial123 a friend and I booked a trip to Rome before realising it’s a jubilee year. I was reassured on another thread by someone who lives there that Spring (not Easter obviously) shouldn’t be too bad for the ancient Roman bits.

Vienna is my favourite European city for sure. So much history and character. Also ALL the Bruegels.

Hoppinggreen · 17/02/2025 10:06

Seville, Cadiz, Cordoba, Munich, Nuremberg

SoapySponge · 17/02/2025 10:08

Cologne.
Bergen (if you count Scandinavia).

Southwest12 · 17/02/2025 10:13

Venice is my most favourite city, I just wander around and see something different everytime I go.

Was in both Vilnius and Thessaloniki for conferences and loved both of them. Would definitely go back to both, especially Thessaloniki with the added draw of espresso fredos and sunshine!

I liked Barcelona, and also Stiges which is a resort about 40 minutes from Barcelona. Was also there for a conference, conferences in the sunshine are the way to go! Stiges is very Spanish, also a very gay male friendly resort. Has loads of lovely restaurants and bars.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 17/02/2025 10:16

Lisbon
Bruges
Berlin

I need to go to more places!

YetAnotherNewUserMoniker · 17/02/2025 10:18

Have been to a reasonable number of larger cities in Italy, France, Switzerland and Spain, and would happily go back to see more sights.

In terms of my favourites, though, would be Perugia absolute top of the list, with a shout out for Arezzo, Bologna and Genoa (lived in Italy for a while, so it's a bit skewed!).

Would also like to go back to Toulouse and Grenoble; had brief stays in both and loved them.

Crikeyalmighty · 17/02/2025 10:20

Copenhagen
Stockholm
Madrid
Palma
Seville
Rome
Krakow
Florence

I'd love to visit Copenhagen and Vienna. For Denmark, would I struggle not knowing Danish at all?

We visited Copenhagen last autumn and practically everyone we interacted with spoke perfect English and seemed more than happy to do so. We observed casual business chit chats in the hotel between Danish and other nationalities predominantly using English as well.

(Quite sobering when you consider our dire lack of languages!)

Cynic17 · 17/02/2025 11:08

Rome is my absolute favourite - been 9 or 10 times.
Also Venice, Lucca, Padua, Verona - pretty much anywhere in Italy, tbh.

Plus:
Paris
Reims
Nice
Lyon
Basel
Zurich
Munich
Konstanz
Berlin
Vienna
Amsterdam
Utrecht
Ghent
Prague
Budapest
Athens
Mahon

I absolutely love Europe!

Cynic17 · 17/02/2025 11:09

Oops, forgot....

Split
Lisbon
Copenhagen
Stockholm

Crikeyalmighty · 17/02/2025 11:10

@HeroShape I know both very well - we lived in Copenhagen for 20 months- you won't struggle in English in either - Copenhagen 98% speak very good English indeed
