With a side order of Vance, Zuckerberg and Netanyahu.*

Everywhere! In all the news reports if you Google it 😊

Yes I've seen it in news reports. I haven't seen it in any actual direct Comms from KS which is a big shame compared to other EU / world leaders.

A statement released by Downing Street late on Friday confirmed Starmer has spoken with both US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky following the fallout

TopPocketFind · 01/03/2025 11:34

Isn't it better not to issue a statement on Leon's platform?

Not sure why. Not all the EU countries who have supported him have done that, not that I've seen anyway, unless I missed some

Igotjelly · 01/03/2025 11:39

Zelenskyy has just landed at Stansted so I’m sure there will be a great deal of public support in the next couple of days. I hope Starmer offers him a stiff drink and a hug!

You can be ambitious or you can be effective. Much easier to persuade folks to do a "No Trump Day" in a week - every week - than give up the lovely.

It also reflects the fact that all the consumer boycotts in the world mean nothing whilst billions are being shovelled by our own government and big businesses into buying from Oracle, Microsoft, Amazon and Google.

It's worth a try. Worth trying to reduce at least the consumer spending into US companies. I rarely use Amazon anyway as I thought Jeff Bezos was a tool before all this and he's only got worse since then. I get one thing through another website and Amazon dropship it, and I'm cancelling that. I'm going through beauty products and finding which are US companies and I'll find an alternative for them.

Next step is online, see if there any alternatives to Microsoft/Google...

Can switch from Chrome to Firefox, other search engines include DuckDuckGo and Ecosia (they plant trees). Will look at all my apps too. What do we do about AWS or Azure? Does it need to be pressure on companies to move away from them?

Within the US, there are boycotts on all the companies rolling back DEI including Nestle, Amazon, Walmart, Target.

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/03/2025 11:46

What’s the highest gong we can give a foreign person. KC should give him one of those just to really piss Trump off.

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/03/2025 11:49

Can live without Prime, but I’m going to find it really hard to to manage without Amazon. Could switch to Argos click and collect where possible.

SerendipityJane · 01/03/2025 12:06

Quite straightforward to run Linux on a PC (maybe Linux Mint) you might have to swerve some installed MS products, but nearly everything can be run via a browser if you want.

Android is actually open source. It's the playstore that locks you into Google.

HereForTheFreeLunch · 01/03/2025 10:03

One day a week won't be much. I'll just order Amazon another day.
This is so difficult - I still haven't managed to organise my Terfy and China boycotts successfully.

You're still doing better than "literally a communist" Ash Sarkar from what's being learned on that other thread!

There are other platforms.

As I said, I think Starmer is trying to position himself as the go between, perhaps this was the plan all along - play up Donald’s Scottish roots and love of the monarchy to keep him sweet, emphasise that the UK is no longer part of the EU so that in the Orange One’s brain cell he sees us as a valid third party.

Yes absolutely. Good teamwork going on at the moment.

As the saying goes, diplomacy is the art of letting someone else have your own way...

I'm sure Mandelson in particular is very deft.

Igotjelly · 01/03/2025 14:19

Didn’t he say they’re going to be in Trump library?

If that were to happen, I'd cancel my subscription to Republic.

BustingBaoBun · 01/03/2025 15:13

Confirmation it was a total ambush of Zelenskyy. Tass the Russian State news agency invited into the Oval office whilst Reuters and Associated Press excluded

They are now controlling the media foljs

I suppose the question is did they agree to calling it the Gulf of America. I mean we all know what Trump thinks constitutes meaningful journalism.

SerendipityJane · 01/03/2025 15:22

A more measured analysis.

TL;DR is that all of this was to disguise the fact that Trump could not deliver a peace deal that was Putin approved.

I did wonder if this might be the case.

So let's shout at, berate and lay into Zelenskyy because it's good television (his words)

Vance acted appallingly. As John Bowen said on BBC news, VPs are there to nod along at the right time, not jump in, argue and shout at a visitor to the WH in front of the world's media. Excluding the media the two idiots don't want there of course

Zelenskyy is a shrewd man. I am hoping this appalling spectacle will play to his advantage in time

BIossomtoes · 01/03/2025 16:09

I think it already has.
