Alan Cummings appeared in Jackie many, many years ago ...

Ahh yes, Twinkle to Bunty to Jackie, there was a Mandy I think as well

Do you remember the paper dolls you cut out if the back page with the outfits you hung over the doll with little flaps

Loved the Jackie annuals. Carted me off to a different world.

Loved those doll things!

I finally graduated to Smash Hits a bit later on. My best mate and I were constantly trying to get boy pen pals from Smash Hits!! God knows why!

My DH was the main character in a Jackie magazine photo love story in the late 70s. He was at college in London at the time and got paid peanuts, and yes I have a copy 😄

Berlinlover · 07/02/2025 20:40

Does anyone remember Hi!? It was around in the late 80s and early 90’s.

Love the style of those drawings! I've got a book which is a compendium of those comics. They are from US comics but they're brilliant; the line drawings.

It's also fascinating to see how the styles changed from the 1950s to the 1970s reflecting the social history developments.

The photo love was very 1980s and I think the old style drawings were thought a bit dated by then.

NotMeNoNo · 07/02/2025 20:44

This is just the thing to read watching TOTP 1987. Fondly remember Jackie and J17. All the fashion from shops in London like Flip and American Classics. Where I lived there was literally only C&A.
I'm a bit of a hoarder, still have some cuttings!

witwatwoo · 07/02/2025 20:46

I've still got a collection of Wham posters !

Excellent!

The desirable male characters always had to be called "Chris" or "Steve" 😁

Catsinaflat · 07/02/2025 20:46

I too had Twinkle then Look In and Jackie. I also had Love Affair (I felt so grown up when I got the first edition with its free perfume) and Fab 208 ( I used to listen to Radio Luxembourg and Fab 208 was always advertised there - I can still sing the jingle!)

Justasmallgless · 07/02/2025 20:47

I loved Jackie magazine and through the adverts found a penpal. 40 years later we are still friends

witwatwoo · 07/02/2025 20:47

@tobee and the baddie was Darren or Dean, usually in a leather jacket

I loved Jackie. Also Fab 208. Anyone remember that?

Yes, I had Fab 208. Wasn't it something to do with Radio Luxembourg (listened to under the covers)?

There's a book available of Cathy &Claire problems.

I think a more interesting question would be did any teenagers of the time not read it?

I remember my RE teacher, must have been about 1978-9,asking us who read Jackie and then changing the question to who didn’t! We all did.

Herbologistinwaiting · 07/02/2025 20:48

I loved Jackie. It was a staple in my life and I loved doing the quizzes! Remember shaders and toners so well too! I learned about a lot of things through that magazine.

I bought a few annuals of Jackie and Blue Jeans a few years ago, from Ebay. I'm 54. 😳 I had the best afternoon on the couch, with a bag of Maltesers flipping through the annuals. All that was missing was Radio Luxembourg, which used to get REALLY LOUD when the Tampax adverts played.

One of the girls in my brothers year was in one of the Blue Jeans photo romance stories. I was so utterly jealous. As a teen in the 80's that was the equivalent of going to school with a celeb. 😂😂😂

Male friend of mine was in a few photo romance stories.

NattyTurtle59 · 07/02/2025 20:51

I used to read it - in NZ.
