Were you aware of Johnnie Boden’s affiliation with the hunt? Would it stop you from buying clothes from Boden?

I was sent this email this morning. I’ve just ordered from Boden, but I’ll be sending the dress back. Annoying, as it was a bargain in the sale, and is just what I wanted for my son’s wedding. I just couldn’t wear it though- now I know.

Would something like this stop you from buying from them?

He also supported Brexit so it’s a big no from me.

Jesus. He gets worse!

Whereismyjoiedevivre · 05/05/2025 22:38

Do you all look into the personal beliefs, political affiliations and business practices of every business or individual you buy from or use services with?
Banks, supermarkets, petrol stations, the local bakery, the shoe mender, the jam maker at your local market, your gas supplier etc etc etc?

JockTamsonsBairns · 05/05/2025 23:09

Boden clothes are awful - cheap looking and frumpy.
That's the reason I stopped purchasing.

More and more I do yes.

Flumpaphone · 06/05/2025 06:56

Haven’t bought anything since Boden supported Brexit. Won’t be going back.

BenWhishawsBottom · 06/05/2025 07:13

I had no idea but I guess it’s not unexpected.
That said, I’m appalled as I hate hunting.
They’ll get no more of my money. I feel uncomfortable wearing what I own given I’m now aware of his support for blood sports.

Edited to add: Thanks, OP, for flagging

Haven’t bought anything since Boden supported Brexit. Won’t be going back.

How ridiculous to support Brexit and impose tariffs and duties on selling your products in the EU.

And then this support of hunting.

No more Biden. I doubt my circa €350 spend per year there will make much difference though.

I think people do their best to be ethical and to note the areas that mean most to them and take some action.

Obviously consumers can't cover everything.

But those producers or vendors that are affected may cause others to take note. Like Tesla.

FancyCatSlave · 06/05/2025 09:37

I used to hunt when I had a horse, so no. I do boycott the liked of Lush though for similar reasons!

DuckieDodgyHedgyPiggy · 06/05/2025 09:41

Ugh. I hate hunting with a passion so yes, it would definitely stop me from buying from them. Thanks for the info.

I applaud Lush's stance.

PrincessSoles · 06/05/2025 09:50

Those of you who don't care - glad you don't have terrified foxes at your back door when they're trying to escape the hunt.

We are surrounded on three sides by fields that are used regularly by the hunt. They absolutely break the law as I am in regular contact with the local hunt sabs who know this hunt never lay trails.

Arseholes every single one of them. The worst ones have their young kids with them. The last time (Easter hunt) there was a girl of 8 or 9 whipping her pony outside our gate because it was trying to eat some grass from the hedgerow.

Next time I am tempted to engage in some seriously disruptive behaviour.

Glitterbiscuits · 06/05/2025 10:59

I won’t buy Biden any more because of this.

No one can justify hunting

lots of clothing brands contribute to the death of actual humans maybe boycott all of them too

earth.org/fast-fashions-detrimental-effect-on-the-environment/

You don’t think the natural environment is as Important as “actual” humans. We’re just another mammal. One that’s screwing the planet, unfortunately.

I wasn't aware and I cannot say it bothers me in the slightest.

It will make a difference if enough of us follow suit.
One of the most appalling things I saw when I was a Hunt Sab was a middle aged male hunter on his horse, laying into an 18yo female protester with his whip.
Despicable behaviour.

CamillaMacauley · 06/05/2025 11:05

I wasn’t aware and will absolutely stop buying Boden now due to this. In fairness I haven’t anyway for some years as it’s over priced tat which doesn’t look particularly nice. Much better options now. Used to love Boden

CamillaMacauley · 06/05/2025 11:08

GCAcademic · 04/05/2025 19:35

OK, most of the rural people I know (and I’ve lived in a rural area for a long time) detest it. They are mainly farmers, though.

I’m rural and detest it. Most people I know locally detest it. The hunt trample over private land without permission. They definitely hunt foxes and have been successfully prosecuted very recently for this.

DefinitelyMaybe92 · 06/05/2025 11:11

Not really.

Spartan123 · 06/05/2025 11:15

I’ll never buy from Boden again because of this

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 06/05/2025 11:16

No.
The recent change to making everything from horrid viscose has though.

evtheria · 06/05/2025 11:19

I always had a vague knowledge the founder was a bit of a twat and that I’d disagree with many of his viewpoints. I’m not a huge buyer of Boden, maybe 3 pieces total for DS, but these details definitely put me off even considering the brand at all and I would mention it to friends if we were discussing clothing.

ZeppelinTits · 06/05/2025 11:24

I had no idea and won’t be buying from them again based on this. Thanks for the heads up.

FanFckingTastic · 06/05/2025 11:24

Fox hunting was banned 20 years ago. If he is hunting (or supporting hunts) that are acting within the law then I would not have an issue.

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 06/05/2025 11:33

Presumably you don't buy goods from China or anywhere else with appalling human rights issues?
Or do you just hate those who are associated with animals?

PiggyPigalle · 06/05/2025 11:36

If Farage becomes PM, I'm sure he would allow hunting, he's a supporter.
All hypocritical anyway when millions of animals are slaughtered.
