Were you aware of Johnnie Boden’s affiliation with the hunt? Would it stop you from buying clothes from Boden?

I was sent this email this morning. I’ve just ordered from Boden, but I’ll be sending the dress back. Annoying, as it was a bargain in the sale, and is just what I wanted for my son’s wedding. I just couldn’t wear it though- now I know.

Would something like this stop you from buying from them?

I wasn’t aware but I already thought Johnny Boden was a knob.
I don’t buy from Boden as their womenswear is ghastly. I definitely won’t look at them ever again now.

Rockhopper1 · 04/05/2025 16:54

Their clothes are poorly cut , ugly & overpriced imo . Can’t stand fox hunting . Did a deep dive into how the hounds are treated & fox cubs are bred a few years back . The sport of psychopaths . Blocking up earths & chasing a sentient, terrified animal . Just grim .Lots of excellent companies now who offer repair services & don’t exploit low paid people in sweat shops whilst caring about the poor old planet so I’m out on several counts .

groovylady · 04/05/2025 16:57

Yes, and it did. Never ordered again

Cynic17 · 04/05/2025 17:10

I don't buy from Boden as much as I used to, but it's nothing to do with Johnnie Boden. Even as a townie, I recognise that it's important to preserve the rural way of life, so good for him.

Ddakji · 04/05/2025 17:13

I don’t buy much from them but I think there are far bigger animal welfare and wildlife issues than hunting, to be honest.

TurtlesDoNotPetsMake · 04/05/2025 17:17

No, if you sit at your table and eat a ham sandwich, then you are no different. The amount of pain, suffering and fear that animals endure in a slaughter house is comparable to a fox being hunted.

SummerDaysOnTheWay · 04/05/2025 17:22

I’ve stopped buying their clothes since they became cheap & shite.

Movinghouseatlast · 04/05/2025 17:24

Yes, absolutely and they can now get to fuck.

I feel the same about Bryan Ferry.

LizaRadleywasonthespectrum · 04/05/2025 17:30

No. I’m not anti hunting.

ChompandaGrazia · 04/05/2025 17:35

I knew. He’s not just a patron, I believe he is the master of hounds. My mum knows him. I don’t buy much from them now I know.

SwedishEdith · 04/05/2025 17:39

I've been aware he was a knob for a while. Haven't bought anything from them for ages - not even on my radar when looking for clothes.

Picklepower · 04/05/2025 17:42

I have only ever bought a few things from there and never been very impressed tbh, but won't buy anything again. I am anti hunting, sick fucks

Most rural people detest this “way of life”. The farmers who live near me are sick of having their land and hedges wrecked by entitled rich people who are repeatedly told that they have no right or permission to ride over farmers’ land, but do so anyway and then leave people much poorer than them to repair the damage.

Bluevelvetsofa · 04/05/2025 17:54

I don’t buy from Boden, but if I did, I’d think more than twice. Overpriced and boring clothing.

JoyousEagle · 04/05/2025 17:57

No it wouldn’t put me off, although I’m not sure I’ve ever bought anything from there anyway. I try to avoid shops/brands with known links to things like slavery/child labour etc, so I’ve never bought temu or shein crap. But that’s about the business, so tbh unless the clothes are made of fox skin, the morals of every CEO/business owner is just not something I have the energy to get involved in. And honestly I find people who eat meat getting sanctimonious about hunting very tedious.

LizaRadleywasonthespectrum · 04/05/2025 18:22

@GCAcademicmost rural people do not detest hunting. You are talking through your backside.

SpottedDonkey · 04/05/2025 18:30

No & no.

I have zero interest in Mr Boden’s leisure pursuits. Assuming he is hunting within the law, it’s none of my business.

Dogpawsandcatwhiskers · 04/05/2025 18:33

Stopped buying from them years ago when the quality of the materials went waay downhill but the prices still went up!

TheAmusedQuail · 04/05/2025 18:39

When I found out, I stopped buying from them. Repellent little man.

netflixfan · 04/05/2025 18:39

No I wouldn’t be bothered. They don’t kill foxes now.
Also the clothes are horrible.

MonkeyTennis34 · 04/05/2025 18:44

Blimey, I’ve bought a few items from Boden in the past but won’t be anymore.
Fox hunting is disgraceful, I used to be a hunt saboteur at Uni.

JesusOnAYamaha · 04/05/2025 18:46

I've stopped boycotting things. There'd be nothing I could buy otherwise.

Katherineryan1986 · 04/05/2025 18:47

No it wouldn’t bother me and I am not anti hunting either. Hunts that I have followed do follow the rules and trail hunt now, which is actually really good fun. People need to get their facts straight and maybe experience a trail hunt meet for themselves.

Honeysuckle16 · 04/05/2025 18:58

Recently became aware and stopped buying from them. Mostly children’s clothes and would spend quite a bit but no more.

SunnieShine · 04/05/2025 19:01

Don't buy Boden and never will now.
