Where do you actually use bleach to clean around the house?

Just read the bleaching carpet thread. Quite roundly and rightly dismissed as an insane practice by MN.

So where do you actually use bleach around the home? Do you actually use bleach for anywhere other than the toilet?

Never use it, not even for the toilet.

Bristolinfeb · 02/02/2025 22:20

Toilet and on my belfast sink.

abracadabra1980 · 02/02/2025 22:20

To whiten my dishcloths, and occasionally on the floors, diluted, or to whiten/brighten my white painted walls.

Gloriousgardener11 · 02/02/2025 22:21

Down the toilet and sink plug holes.

Seawolves · 02/02/2025 22:22

I sterilize my child's feeding tube in Milton every night but other than that I don't use bleach anywhere.

MumChp · 02/02/2025 22:23

We don't use it.

Theresidents · 02/02/2025 22:23

Toilet, bath, what’s that white sealant stuff around the bath and taps? Well that. Sink. Kitchen work tops if I have spilt tumeric on it, as that the only trying that will get that out, as well as beetroot stains. I bleach white shirts now and again.
I bleach the tea stains out of cups, but not regularly, same with tea spoons. Bleach the washing up brush. Bleach the window sills. Bleach clear plastic mixing bowels when they get a stain that won’t wash out.
Bleach spray the tiles in the bathroom. Sometimes bleach the hallway Lino.
Love a bit of bleach, I don’t use tonnes of cleaning stuff. Bleach, washing powder, washing up liquid, sometimes anti bacterial wipe but mostly cloths.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 02/02/2025 22:24

Toilet. Sometimes sinks

Apollo365 · 02/02/2025 22:24

Never, don’t own any. Will never be in my house

theduchessofspork · 02/02/2025 22:25

Hardly ever - maybe a blocked drain if desperate. I have used it in one of the offices at work on teacups when they get v stained.

rainbowunicorn · 02/02/2025 22:25

Don't use it at all.

BlueSilverCats · 02/02/2025 22:26

Toilet and bathroom sink sometimes.

You know there are alternatives to bleach for
a lot of this that would be a great deal better for marine life.

TheSpottedZebra · 02/02/2025 22:26

I found a load of mold recently in 2 bedrooms, so I bleached the heck out of that.
Round the windows, and in a couple of corners.

Itsalwaysfools · 02/02/2025 22:27

Never. Can't bear the smell.

Pebbles16 · 02/02/2025 22:27

Toilet, diluted in tea-stained cups - that's about it

Theresidents · 02/02/2025 22:28

Wouldn’t that be a lot of different items though? I don’t think white vinegar and baking soda are going to cut it for a really stained in stained.

TheChosenTwo · 02/02/2025 22:28

Nowhere, the smell of it makes me heave and it’s a very easy win for the environment the fewer people who use it!

Circumferences · 02/02/2025 22:29

Who on earth would bleach their carpet?? I'm so glad that thread passed me by 😂

Where do I use bleach?
Toilet, maybe around the sink and the back of the taps.
I do have it in my home, so I don't oppose using it completely, but it's used sparingly.

RaininSummer · 02/02/2025 22:30

On spilled hair dye in bathroom unit. Down loo once a week. To clean the grout and bath sealant. One bottle lasts ages.

DairyLeanne · 02/02/2025 22:30

Fair enough to the people who don't use bleach. I've never really thought of it before but I've sort of considered bleach to be some sort of by gone thing that is becoming less popular.

Whatnowthenfordone · 02/02/2025 22:31

Toilet. Plug holes. No and then I soak toilet roll in it and leave it around the grouting and sealant on the bath overnight.

TappyGilmore · 02/02/2025 22:33

In the washing machine for the monthly machine clean, and occasionally added to white sheets if they’re looking particularly grim. Sometimes in the kitchen sink.

I think the product that I use for mould in the bathroom as needed probably has bleach added, smells like it anyway.

UbiquitousObjects · 02/02/2025 22:33

Down the toilet, that's it.
