No but now worrying I should do.... 😬

PiastriThePastry · 31/01/2025 18:00

No, they’re being paid to do their job, just like everyone else.

Hayley1256 · 31/01/2025 18:00

Yes if they are friendly, normally chuck them a fiver. If they just chuck the food at me then I don't

Whyherewego · 31/01/2025 18:00

Never even occurred to me !

TwentyTwentyFive · 31/01/2025 18:00

No why would you tip them? They are doing a job for which they are paid, no tips needed.

CaptainCaaaavemaan · 31/01/2025 18:00

What! No, it's never crossed my mind.

SoScarletItWas · 31/01/2025 18:01

No. We tend to get the same one every week. We have a lovely chat while I frantically shove everything into bags on the doorstep.

If I ever needed him to bring the trays through into the kitchen, I’m sure he would. I’d still only tip him if he put it in the cupboards 😄

MinnieBalloon · 31/01/2025 18:02

Of course not. I don’t tip anyone, anywhere.

You aren’t helping by tipping, you’re actually keeping wages low. But of course you get to feel good about yourself so what do you care of the long term consequences? Hmm

TomatoSandwiches · 31/01/2025 18:02

I tip a lot in most services but I have never tipped the supermarket delivery driver and I doubt I ever would except in special circumstances.

Whyherewego · 31/01/2025 18:00

Never even occurred to me !

Me neither!

But I do usually tip the takeaway delivery driver, only one or two euro though.

ChoosingANewNameIsTooHard · 31/01/2025 18:03

No. Somebody posted on a similar thread that Tesco delivery people weren't allowed to accept tips.

evtheria · 31/01/2025 18:04

This is first I've heard of it, and I'm a regular tipper when out and about (cafes, etc)

I know some people who have regular drivers do a box of chocs etc at Christmas, but it can be a bit iffy re company rules.

SiobhanSharpe · 31/01/2025 18:04

I feel like I might at Christmas when we tip the postie, bin men etc.

CloggingM3 · 31/01/2025 18:04

The guy from Waitrose said they’re under strict instructions not to accept anything. Most take a can of drink from me though when it’s hot in the summer

Eh...??? I don't do it to feel good about myself!
I to because I appreciate good service.

KnickerFolder · 31/01/2025 18:07

No but I know that they are not permitted to accept tips. Other supermarkets may have different policies,

Doesn’t really matter why you do it, tbh. You’re keeping wages low by tipping. You appreciate them so much you want them to stay on a low wage.

purplecorkheart · 31/01/2025 18:08

No, I tried to once, but he refused. He told me that they are not allowed accept tips and that the company do set up test delivery to see if they accept tips or not. Refuse to delivery of alochol to minors or to see if they ask for id for someone who looks underage.

chattyness · 31/01/2025 18:08

No, we can't afford it & in any case they have an easy time here . They pull up at the open gate where we are waiting with a table for them to load the creates on, then we run the full crates up the path & into the house to empty and return, we do all the work & even with a huge shop it just takes minutes. They should tip us 😆

I did once when the guy went to some extra trouble. Not usually.

placemats · 31/01/2025 18:11

They can't accept tips.

Nor can delivery drivers.

BBQPete · 31/01/2025 18:12

No. they are doing their job, and are paid by their employers.

You said people do it to feel good about themselves.... I don't!
Some jobs pay less, that's how things work. Lower paid workers are usually in service roles, I tip them if I think they've done a good job - me not tipping them is not going to get them a pay rise!
I have a son in one of those low paying service roles, he isn't going to get paid more if people don't tip - in fact he pays tax on his tips! He is very happy to get that bump in his wages from tips, because he is good at his job.
I am good at my job and get a bonus that's a hell of a lot more than a tip - they're not increasing my salary and take that away.

Anyway.... all off topic. I don't tip supermarket delivery drivers.

Tuopo · 31/01/2025 18:15

No, I think most (all?) supermarkets don’t let them accept anything anyway, it’s the same as those on the tills, pickers etc you wouldn’t tip them
