Im having a supermarket grocery delivery tonight.

Out of interest, do you tip your driver?

OP posts:
RedRiverShore5 · 31/01/2025 19:31

Blimey if I tipped everyone that delivered to the house, I would have no money left

DreamW3aver · 31/01/2025 19:31

Motheranddaughter · 31/01/2025 19:29

Yes I do
I tip everyone

Everyone? That must get really expensive.

Do you mean like the bus driver, every shop assistant, lollipop lady .....

TeenLifeMum · 31/01/2025 19:00

No, but also don’t tip bin men and don’t understand how people do. Our come at 6.50am and there’s 6 of them. I don’t even know if they are the same ones each time.

We put the tip in a Christmas card and tape it to the bin. In a plastic pocket if it's due to rain!

100PercentFaithful · 31/01/2025 19:39

No! We have 2 deliveries per week.

Nope because ive already paid why give more we do have a living crisis.
Plus they get paid like everyone else.

RealHousewivesOfTaunton · 31/01/2025 19:51

No, it's never occurred to me to do so. I do give them a nice box of biscuits at Christmas though (not ones that they've just delivered!).

Many people don't tip anyone that's not unusual.

Superdupersomeone · 31/01/2025 19:55

No, it's never occurred to me to do so. I'm a single parent on a low income and I reckon they earn about the same, or possibly more than I do 🤷🏻‍♀️

DarcyProudman · 31/01/2025 20:16

I don’t have food deliveries often, but I always give them a fiver. Not one of them has declined - and rightly so! They’re doing me a favour, because I only get a delivery when I’m too busy to go to the shop. I don’t tip any other delivery men though 😀

In what way is a person carrying out their job doing you a favour? It's literally what they are paid thier salary for. Bizarre 😁

Because I wouldn’t have food if he didn’t bring it to me 🤨

No!

But that's the job they've chosen to do? By that logic you should tip the postie, delivery drivers from any company you order from and anyone else who offers you a service?

Footymum44 · 31/01/2025 20:27

My dad was an Asda delivery driver and they weren't allowed to accept tips when he was there

rainythursdayontheavenue · 31/01/2025 20:28

I do at Christmas or if it's an unusually large shop. And I email in if they've gone above and beyond - a few months ago, my bastard dog decided to go into the horizon chasing a pheasant and I missed our delivery. The lovely driver came back at the end of their shift to deliver it, so I gave her a £10 note and made sure that her manager was aware. She came back on another delivery a few weeks later and said my email had got her staff member of the week and she was chuffed to bits.

RedRiverShore5 · 31/01/2025 20:31

I let the Tesco man use my loo once.

IsThePopeCatholic · 31/01/2025 20:32

Only at Christmas.

In the same way a waitress or barista can make the experience better I think delivery drivers can too. Some of them are really helpful and will check that eggs aren't broken etc, help you unload. Others literally don't make any extra effort so I tip the ones that do in the same way I would tip any other good service. Tipping the bin men now and again works a treat if you have rubbish, local evri guy who is really helpful and I never have missing delivers. I do t tip the Amazon guys as they literally just throw the parcel over the fence

Hayley1256 · 31/01/2025 20:41

Meant to say extra rubbish that doesn't fit in your bin

The pp isn't tipping them for doing a good job she's says she's tipping them simply because their job exists.

I was responding to the comment about tipping people just for doing their jobs

You’ve literally paid for that to happen, though. Nobody is doing you a favour.

TheRosesAreInBloom · 31/01/2025 21:04

I do, I have two tips I give out regularly:

  1. don’t eat yellow snow
  2. don’t buy tights for a mermaid
Uneventfully · 31/01/2025 21:08

I would if they sent a link on a text or email or something as I rarely have cash.

However I think given the stingy lack of tipping culture in this country, this would be very unpopular.

In comparison I always give a 15% tip on the takeaway delivery apps.
