Finally accepted my Shark is crap. What shall I get instead?

Just that. My corded Shatk vacuum is awful. Heavy. Barely picks up mud, doesn't touch cat hair.

What shall I get instead? We have wooden floors but lots of rugs and I like to use it to get the cat hair off the sofa too.

4 floors so a robot vacuum won't work.

I'm leaning towards a Henry cordless.

SpringBunnyHopHop · 30/01/2025 15:27

I have a Hetty and love it.

Manchesterbythesea · 30/01/2025 15:28

I’ve also accepted that my Dyson stick is useless. I gave in and bought a Miele C3. Great suction and different settings for rugs etc.

MuttsNutts · 30/01/2025 15:30

Mine is crap too. Only bought it because they were being raved about on here at the time. It falls over with the slightest tug of the hose, doesn’t pick bits up (which is surely the point of a vacuum) and hurts my wrist.

So hopping on board for recommendations too.

BeaTwix · 30/01/2025 15:31

Miele. C2 complete.

(I replaced a corded stick Shark in September for the above at my aunt's house. Cleaners love it. Even the mercenary one who made my aunt buy the Shark in the first place when I wanted her to get a miele.

The other cleaner told me she has asked other clients to buy a miele too).

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 30/01/2025 15:32

I also decided my shark was a useless pile of crap. Then I thoroughly cleaned it, and bought a new HEPA filter for it. It’s pretty good now

muddyford · 30/01/2025 15:33

I've had Mieles for three decades. Turbo brushes are brilliant at collecting dog hair.

ThatDaringMintCritic · 30/01/2025 15:33

We went back to a Henry - made a huge difference. It takes more lugging around but does the job.

Notstrongandstable · 30/01/2025 15:37

Agree my Dyson is crap, due to battery. Suction is good otherwise.
Has anyone found a cordless one with a decent battery? Mine only lasts for 6 mins on max suction and I've already replaced it and feel like it's going again. So annoying!

MissyB1 · 30/01/2025 15:48

Miele C3 - the best vacuum I've ever had, and I've had a few!

Oldandcobwebby · 30/01/2025 15:54

Sebo. If it's good enough for Buckingham Palace, it's good enough for me. They are not light, though.

Have you washed all the filters? Mine was like that but improved hugely after I washed them all through

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 30/01/2025 15:57

I love my shark but do admit it falls over quite a lot!

LemonVerbeena · 30/01/2025 16:00

Miele C3 - have had it nearly 10 years and it's still as good as the day I bought it. Amazing suction, great on every surface.

mosaicbrokenhearts · 30/01/2025 16:00

Sebo but they are a bit tank like

Kebabbky · 30/01/2025 16:01

I think cordless are just crap in general! I gave up and went back to a plug in Miele

Yep, always Miele, even the cheapest will be better than anything ever mentioned on these threads.

EauNeu · 30/01/2025 16:02

I love my shark. Have you tried clearing out the tubes? Very satisfying.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 30/01/2025 16:03

Really happy with my Vax Pet Blade. Deals with dog hair fine.

mosaicbrokenhearts · 30/01/2025 16:03

We went from a pull around Miele to an upright Sebo. We had a lot of carpet at the time and needed something that would really clean the carpet, uprights are better for this. Would have another Miele though

EauNeu · 30/01/2025 16:03

I used to have a Miele after seeing the hype on Mumsnet and I didn't really get why it's supposedly better

Londonmummy66 · 30/01/2025 16:05

Miele - our Dyson died recently and our cleaner asked us to get one of these instead as she rates them.

Miaowzabella · 30/01/2025 16:13

A Eufy robot vacuum for daily use and a GTech Air Ram for the heavy work.

tanqueray10 · 30/01/2025 16:27

Sebo and a Henry cordless! Hated my Shark so much

Pancakeflipper · 30/01/2025 16:40

Sebo.

Bloody tanks.... not attractive but they can't half vac up crap.

Was recommended to us at John Lewis (we were tempted by the Dyson).

Our Sebo now 21 yrs old.
It's survived a few tumbles down the stairs, several house extensions/renovations (abused badly by one lot of builders ). Good on pet hair, good on dried mud etc...

Even our cleaner (who has a Henry) tends to leave her Vac in her car boot and just uses ours.
