Finally accepted my Shark is crap. What shall I get instead?

Just that. My corded Shatk vacuum is awful. Heavy. Barely picks up mud, doesn't touch cat hair.

What shall I get instead? We have wooden floors but lots of rugs and I like to use it to get the cat hair off the sofa too.

4 floors so a robot vacuum won't work.

Another vote for Sebo. Yes it’s heavier than my Dyson was but it is amazingly effective.

JPC123 · 30/01/2025 16:45

Miele C3 cat and dog. It’s fantastic. I don’t know why I ever left Miele for the shark hype tbh!

Takeatriponthenationalexpress · 30/01/2025 16:51

I have a miele c3. I had one and it died after about 5 years. A vacumn repair person told me to call miele and as it was less than 10 years old I got 50% off a brand new c3. I was pretty impressed with their customer service.

AspiringMermaid · 30/01/2025 17:36

I love my shark cordless! Bought one 2/3 years ago. I leant it to my brother, it was so convenient for him I let him keep it and bought myself a new one. I detach the top for charging, keep it on the side so it doesn't topple over

Sunshineandrainbow · 30/01/2025 17:38

Sebo the best hoover ever... Mine is over 15 years old and if it died I would buy a new one instantly. I love how traditional it looks too.

I bought a shark with all the hype and it's stuck at the back of a dark cupboard, useless.

If you have a JL near you go and try one.

MrsKwazi · 30/01/2025 17:40

I have been through a very fancy Sebo, a Miele, Shark and Dyson. I bought a corded Henry Pet a couple of months ago and cannot be happier with it and will never be persuaded by cordless or any other gimmick ever again.

NeonGreenHighlighter · 30/01/2025 17:45

I wouldn’t touch anything cordless
i would replace the filter to be sure though!

CrushingOnRubies · 30/01/2025 18:16

Following! Also don't like our shark hoover.

But keen for the new hoover to be cordless as due to my dyspraxia I really struggle with the winding up of the cord and just general tripping over and manoeuvring iof the cord when hoovering.

TriangleScratch · 30/01/2025 19:57

Before the (terrible) Shark we had a Miele Cat and Dog. Is the C3 better? I quite liked it but DH found the shape awkward especially when doing the stairs. It'll be a hard sell to get him back to another Miele.

I'm liking the sound of a Sebo plus a separate cordless...

The Shark has been cleaned, cared for, spoken to gently AND sternly - still crap. Sorry!

I’ve also accepted that my Dyson stick is useless. I gave in and bought a Miele C3. Great suction and different settings for rugs etc.

Another vote for the Miele we have a C2. It's my 2nd Miele last one was 15 years old before it gave up the spirit.

MrsMust · 30/01/2025 20:02

Hate hate hate Dyson. I regret my purchase so much. We have a cordless and it really has rubbish suction power. My mum used to have a corded Dyson which I think was much better.

However, she's recently bought a Sebo and it is just amazing. I am now vying for one myself.

Printedword · 30/01/2025 20:09

We have a cordless Shark, bought in lockdown. It's functional but DH - who generally does all the vacuuming - has always said it's a bit too heavy. Old property with steep stairs, our modern bit is Victorian so lugging it round tight bends and up and down stairs and steps makes the weight a slight issue/irritation. Plus, despite 'anti hairwrap technology', I often get asked if I will declogg the roller while DH is dusting.

DH is working away, so I found myself in
B and M last Saturday morning and I purchased a cordless Vax Pace Original. It's lighter and I feel happier lugging it around. Seems good so far and didn't cost much.

Keepsmiling2948 · 30/01/2025 20:16

Miele C3 all day long, or C2 or cat and dog. My last one finally slowed down after 15 years, and I was ruthless with it. It even survived a year of renovations and me hoovering up rubble, builders dust and pretty much everything else I had no business hoovering. Should have buried it with honours really.

Longwaysouth · 30/01/2025 20:19

I have a second. I have had it almost 20 years. Still very good. I have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and it no feels heavy. DH has taken over the job.

marthaisintheway · 30/01/2025 20:23

Miele c3. Bought it after giving up on cordless shark. Would only ever buy miele from now on.

GlobalCitz · 30/01/2025 20:26

Oldandcobwebby · 30/01/2025 15:54

Sebo. If it's good enough for Buckingham Palace, it's good enough for me. They are not light, though.

Second this.

Fantastic German beast.

Blarn · 30/01/2025 20:27

Miele. We had one that was abused with brick dust and was damaged in a house move unfortunately. Replaced it with another Miele that is still as good 5 years later. Its only a C1 and I am waiting for it to break as I'd like the pet one with the turbo bit. But I don't think it is going to break for a very long time. Every time I think its loosing power I change one of the filters and it's amazing again.

PandaChopChop · 30/01/2025 20:30

Don't bother with cordless, they're all shite.

I actually got the newest Shark and that is (so far) brilliant!
ExH got the Miele C3 pet thing because the animals are with him. Best bloody hoover ever. With the pet hair tool!

Exhaustedtiredneedabreak · 30/01/2025 20:32

Which model sebo for lots of pets and hair?

donnylassy · 30/01/2025 20:35

I hated my shark and everytime it broke they just sent another part and refused to refund even though it was under warranty.

I got a Henry and love him

JulesJules · 30/01/2025 20:35

Yep, as per PP I recommend Miele Cat and Dog

Rosesgrowonyou · 30/01/2025 20:39

Good old fashioned corded Henry. I've just bought a new one and it's the best.

AmusedGoose · 30/01/2025 20:40

I'm a professional housekeeper. Give you vacuum a really good clean, especially washbthe filters if washable and dry well. Will make a huge difference. Miele brilliant and like driving a BMW but tend to have very short leads. Upright hoovers a great if you are in a hurry or have pets but cylinder do a much thorough job. I love Henry's.
