Finally accepted my Shark is crap. What shall I get instead?

Just that. My corded Shatk vacuum is awful. Heavy. Barely picks up mud, doesn't touch cat hair.

What shall I get instead? We have wooden floors but lots of rugs and I like to use it to get the cat hair off the sofa too.

4 floors so a robot vacuum won't work.

After buying a series of cheap rubbish vacuum cleaners, bought Miele cat and dog. No animals but I have long hair. It’s fabulous.

I have a shark the upright cord one, had it a few years now and it does get clogged quite easily. Have you tried pulling it all apart ? There's always tons of stuff stuck in mine and it's now picking up

The Shark has been cleaned, cared for, spoken to gently AND sternly - still crap. Sorry!

Ah that's a pity I am going to clean the filters on mine when I get home

Stickytreacle · 31/01/2025 09:16

I've had loads of vacuums, (cats, dogs and horses plus the usual family messes).
I currently swear by a Vax air stretch which is great on carpets and hard flooring with excellent suction and super lightweight, a Miele for easy access under the furnitue and a Bosch Athlet for a quick whip round.
I love all three, but if I could only choose one it would be the Vax.

The reasons are that it has a super long cord, so no unplugging and plugging in all the time, it picks up dirt even after I've used the Miele, it's lightweight and easy to clean. It's also relatively cheap.

Miele C3 - the best vacuum I've ever had, and I've had a few!

Second this! Life changing hoover 🤣

TriangleScratch · 31/01/2025 09:43

I've added the Vax Air Stretch to the Look At list.

I'm starting to think the Sebo might not be for me. I'm a total weakling and have a lot of stairs to lug this thing up and down.

Sebo. If it's good enough for Buckingham Palace, it's good enough for me. They are not light, though.

I love my Sebo. But yes, v heavy. Not to use, to lift.

One very good thing about the Sebo is the really long extension hose, which is handy for stretching up or down stairs depending how many treads you need to reach. It is also great for cornices, picture rails and high up cobwebs. I can't remember if it came with the machine or not...I remember buying a replacement hose about 15 years ago? It adds about 2.8 metres onto the built-in hose, which is fairly long to start with.
We also have an AEG Animal with a hair chopper which I use as it is very light, but it doesn't have the versatility of the Sebo.

@Flossflower - Miele corded is a cylinder not upright. I think we have eco one. It’s about 15 years old and I hoover our b and b with it daily.

The shark cordless is handy, but rubbish in corners, edges, skirting, on rugs. Handy for small children leaving crumbs or dry mud as no plugging in.

We also have an eufy robot - that’s just used downstairs in main living room to again help with toddler crumbs or cat bringing in mud. I also lob the eufy upstairs to hoover under our beds as it reaches under super king easily. It just can’t get back to base alone as I only have one but that’s fine, just put eufy in bedroom, shut door and set timer to move him to next bedroom for under beds after 15 mins

forcliffssake · 31/01/2025 10:55

I've got a Dyson corded, a Shark cordless, a GTech AirRam and a Miele C3. I only ever use the Miele now as none of the others compare.

DesteB · 31/01/2025 11:15

I also have the Meile 3, i have had the Meile 1 before but this is something else.

TriangleScratch · 31/01/2025 11:19

A hair chopper?!? @TeaAndStrumpets This might be what I need with the cats and DD!

I've had a succession of Dyson and Shark - corded and cordless - and have decided they're all pretty crap! Bought a Henry and can't fault it at all. Suction is fab and it just gets the job done.

SnowySnowson · 31/01/2025 11:27

Sebo upright. Would never have anything else now. Handles pet hair very well too. Bags are a doddle to change and it's easy to use.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/01/2025 11:29

My old Shark put me off them , it would spit out grit once it was switched off , even if I held it over the bin to try and catch it .

New Shark Stratos with anti hairwrap is amazing , I am horrified how much is collected . Cannister for dust and one for hair .
Corded but it is 10m and I don't need to worry about battery life or replacement

It works to keep the brushes clear, seems to do the job. Chops away when you press the button with your foot, and sucks it all away. DH is convinced it is too good to be true so never uses it (prefers Sebo and manually cleaning the brushes) but I think it's brilliant!

Clearingaspace · 31/01/2025 11:50

I have had Henry and Miele with cords and Dyson cordless, Miele is the best of the 3 I would say.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 31/01/2025 11:53

Henry or Hetty, they’re a decent pair of suckers.

Which model sebo for lots of pets and hair?

I am not sure if any are specific for pet hair.

Have a look through the reviews and see if anyone mentions pet hair.
My model is old X4 model, well over 15 years old. I have a cat but he doesn't really shed much.

Miele for weekly big hoover.

Manual carpet sweeper for everyday quick clean ups.
