King size duvet on double bed - worth it?

MJconfessions · 28/01/2025 18:00

Bit random but I heard using a king size duvet on a double bed is a “game changer”. Is this true?

I don’t know whether it’s worth it to the extent of having to replace all my double size duvet covers…

Oh yes! X

Onlyonekenobe · 29/01/2025 18:18

Yes yes and triple yes. Just make sure your washing machine is big enough.

Two single duvets is the real game changer

This. We have a single each on king bed. We each have a summer weight and winter weight duvet to choose from so have individual comfort.

Definitely, and a super king on a king size loads to wrap around.

ExtraDisorganised · 29/01/2025 18:21

Yes for all the reasons above, but it’s harder washing them and changing the covers especially if you have a high tog one, we use 3.5 all year round with a blanket over in winter but when we used to use a 9 tog one in winter it was hard work changing the covers. Also it is closer to square so it is easy to accidentally put it in the wrong way round.

Agree

TheFlis · 29/01/2025 18:24

We have a super king on a king size bed, my mum has always sized up on duvets since we were teens. MIL uses the ‘correct’ size duvets and we always sleep poorly there because of it.

HappyNannie · 29/01/2025 18:53

Yes

WeWillGetThereInTheEnd · 29/01/2025 18:56

Yes, I always size up on every bed in the house!

WhiteNegroni · 29/01/2025 18:59

Another super-king duvet on a king bed - it’s brilliant especially if the other person is fat.

Mannersmattertoo · 29/01/2025 18:59

110% go for it! We had a super king duvet on a king bed, but now we have a superking bed. I'm not forking out for emperor sized, and it would be impossible to change ! I'd sooner go for two double duvets 😂 sick of dh turning over and taking the whole thing with him. I like the bed to look nice though, and not all fragmented!

MargaretThursday · 29/01/2025 19:35

We have a king sized... and I have a double to myself. That way I can totally wrap myself up in it, and when he rolls onto his side he doesn't leave a wind tunnel up the middle.

ProperSleep · 29/01/2025 19:42

Another super king on a king size bed. Grin

And my duvet is winter weight wool - so it’s a full workout every time I make the bed. But I find other peoples beds and bedding so unsatisfactory. Always relieved to get home!

ShodAndShadySenators · 29/01/2025 19:49

I find it also makes the bed easier to make in the morning, as the bottom end just doesn't really shift. It looks a lot nicer too as you don't see the divan part of the bed if there is one, and it just looks more opulent and luxurious, imo. (We have a king duvet on a double bed, works well for us)

MJconfessions · 29/01/2025 18:07

Seems unanimous then!

I prefer the (purportedly) Scandi method shared beds individual quilts.

The bonus for you would be you wouldn't have to get rid of your existing bedding just buy another a quilt.

Tiredforfive45 · 29/01/2025 19:56

We did this when we had a double.

Hear me out though…2 double duvets on a superking matress. Talk about a game changer. DH may as well be in another room for how much I notice him in the night. We have a bit of a duvet ‘wall’ between us where they bunch together, which is ideal to me. We are very much NOT cuddly sleepers though, I appreciate some people actually want physical closeness with their partners in bed😂.

gemdrop84 · 29/01/2025 19:59

Do it! We have a king-size for a double bed and it's money well spent. It's also nice when DH goes out and I can sprawl out under the big duvet.

Cocothecoconut · 29/01/2025 20:00

Definitely 💯
Or you lose half when he turns over 😠

BeyondMyWits · 29/01/2025 20:07

We seem to be against the wind here. We have a double duvet on a double bed. Never had any problems, but we both sleep like logs.

Whoah, but how do you have room to stretch out? We had a double years ago, we were only in our early 20s and at that cuddly sticking glue stage; even then it felt small, and sort of squished. Years later and post dcs, I need my space!! We went to king, and then to superking, dh is 6 foot 3 though. I'm only small, but i like space when I sleep, and it has been a godsend for our kids jumping in as well 😂

WorriedRelative · 29/01/2025 20:41

Oh yes, definite positive move.

So good to have extra duvet to tuck in

BoredZelda · 29/01/2025 20:45

Yes. Totally worth it.

Edited

DH sleeps on his back (and is skinny) I sleep on my side (and am not), just never had any desire to stretch out - or hog the duvet - 25 years and counting...

Always put a larger duvet on a bed, double on a single, king on a double and so on. Makes all the difference and makes for happier sleepers.

DH and I spent the night wrestling a duvet recently a double duvet on a double bed didn't work at all!

We have a king on s double bed- brilliant.

reluctantbrit · 29/01/2025 20:59

Two singles - no battle for a duvet and a lot easier to change.
