Add your contenders but mine is Ralph Fiennes, I'm hoping this will be his year.

I have face blindness when it comes to Michelle Williams.
She's just so generic.
I often only find out it's her from the credits.

I'm glad that Demi Moore looks to be in the running for an Oscar this year. Although I haven't seen The Substance, I've always thought she was an underrated actress since seeing her in About Last Night. Shame she's made some very poor film choices over the years!

Agree. I’ve seen the substance, peculiar film but no doubt she’s a great actress in it. I hope she takes the Oscar. However as there’s a man in the best actress category this year, he may pip her up the post.

Keanu should have one for improving the acting genre generally

deeahgwitch · 26/01/2025 19:06

Liam Neeson
James Norton
Sophie Okonedo
Sarah Lancashire

Richard Harris should have got it for The Field. 🥲

At the end of the day the Oscar voters only vote for a certain type of movie and performance. You could put in the best acting ever seen in a Michael Bay movie and you will never win. The best chance is to play a character from a minority group, preferably with a disability in a film so boring half the audience falls asleep midway through

I agree with you re your best chance of winning an Oscar 😂

Really? Who's that? I can't see a man on the list

The Oscars are for motion pictures. Sarah Lancashire is a TV actress. Sophie Okonedo and James Norton aren’t big film actors either.

I think Sophie Okonedo might have been nominated in the supporting category for Hotel Rwanda 20 years ago but she does not have much of a filmography. She mainly does theatre and TV.

I can't believe Denis Villenueve and Austin Butler weren't nominated for Dune. Sci fi never does well but it's an extraordinary film.

Stephanie Hsu was absolutely robbed by Jamie Lee Curtis. Her role was so much more difficult and she nailed it

Yes. I like JLC, and I thought Michelle Yeoh totally deserved Best Actress, but JLC didn't really deserve Best Supporting.

Leo's character was called Arnie.

Oh yes sorry they were both on it.
