Worth £6million, apparently. The prizes are getting more and more valuable.

I haven't had a chance to have a good look yet, but will be back with my thoughts when I've done so.

What's the verdict, Omazers?

The question I would ask is how many of the properties are now being lived in by the prize winners. The one that was not researched properly by Omaze was the glass house in Combe Martin,North Devon. It was likely to fall from a cliff. Apparently the winner handed the keys back or never accepted them.

There were also issues with another Devon property where the trees were a problem. Then one in Gloucestershire area when it flooded a short time after ownership.

On the flip side a couple won a London house that was just around the corner from they lived and they were delighted.

commonground · 19/01/2025 14:17

I do wonder about the point of their valuation? The house on one side is on the market for around 3m (been on since May).

The one on the other side sold for 3.2m in 2023. Dated and smaller but a lot of land, right down to marsh. Easily as much land as the Omaze house.

Zoopla has the Omaze house valued, at close to 3m (most optimistically). So what's the advantage to saying it's worth 6m? It's actually upping people's expectations and then not delivering when you look at the details. And those who don't know how expensive Blakeney is (it really is) will just laugh.

I do think Omaze are good at turning perfectly nice family homes into show-homes that fit the style of the house. The Bath one is beautifully and sympathetically decorated and furnished, and with the Blakeney one, they've run with the coastal New England vibe the exterior suggests and just elevated it from the 'family' vibe.

(That would be a great prize, actually - to Omaze-ify your house. I would love a team to swoop in and get mine showhouse ready to that standard).

Andthebellsringout · 20/01/2025 17:21

I think you want more than 3 beds if you are going to win a dream house.

Does anyone know if Omaze still do little prizes too? I won an Amazon £10 voucher in 2023. Would have much preferred the house though!

Mirabai · 20/01/2025 17:24

I would just like the Omaze fairies to know that however much I turn my nose up at the Norfolk house that doesn’t mean I don’t want to win it.

TheLilEngineWhoCould · 21/01/2025 19:12

Nah the£10 look like you won £10but you have to spend it on an entry🙄

Not only that but you have to sign up for a subscription to be able to redeem the £10 prize. Of course you can cancel at any time but still...

For those not wishing to register to read the article, the council is apparently looking into claims that the floor plan differs (bigger boot room) from planning permission and that the swimming pool, tennis court and some outbuildings didn't feature in the planning permission. Omaze is saying they did all the necessary checks before buying the property but will make sure that the winner doesn't lose out if it turns out that there are problems with it.

Fantastic to see that the Bath House Draw raised £4.6m for the British Heart Foundation.

AsFunAsEnglishWeather · 09/02/2025 19:16

Wow - a lot of people wanted that Bath house! This one, I'd imagine not so much. I know one local poster said it was up a slope, but to me it looks like it's about to become one with the North Sea.

I’m glad that my money went to a very good cause. However it should have been me. 😬

Madcats · 09/02/2025 19:28

Somebody went public after winning the "Bath, but you'll have a 'mare getting anywhere" house. I'm more central, so others might consider the location "convenient".

My local Reach website is so full of flashy adverts and cookies, I won't post a link.

Best of luck to them, whatever they decide to do with the place.

Nearly all the houses they have have too much glass for my liking. Am still a subscriber though ...

Same here. I guess glass is cheaper than brick when they renovate, but I just think of all the cleaning, specially with the ones by the sea which will have seagulls pooing all over the windows.

I am unreasonably disappointed that I didn't win the Bath house, particularly as I don't like the current one. It won't be long till they announce the next one though, so fingers crossed it's a traditional one.

I saw a hint online from a competition website that it’s on a Scottish loch. I saw a pic (who knows if correct) which looks really nice - modern structure with a courtyard attached to an older courtyard. Looked very fancy and very omaze. But so, so remote. Near Pitlochry.

I’m very tired. Modern structure with a courtyard (a square building) attached to a traditional cottage! Access to the loch. No clue if it’s correct though. Time will tell!

Ooh, that would be good, thanks. I like to fantasise about winning, but that only works if I like the house. At least you could rent out a remote Scottish house in the summer, which would help to pay the running costs.

Ooo I have to say I REALLY DON’T LIKE the latest one in Scotland. How on earth did they get permission to lump a great monstrosity of a footballer’s house onto that charming little bothy? It looks all wrong 😑. Gorgeous location, but too far for me. I need somewhere I can drive to with the ddog!

ShyMaryEllen · 13/02/2025 22:07

Yeah, that's all fair, but I like it apart from the courtyard thing. There is another thread if you're interested?

Ah sorry I couldn’t find one!

Davros · 18/02/2025 11:10

I entered this draw, the only time I have ever entered. I got an email saying I've won a £10 prize and I'm suspicious. Should I be?

martinisforeveryone · 18/02/2025 11:39

@Davros log in to your account from the Omaze website, not the email. I won a £10 Amazon voucher once.

I've logged in but I'm still not convinced

BuyingButterAndSatinSandals · 18/02/2025 12:48

It is genuine @Davros but not really a prize as such in that it looks like you can only use it to take out a monthly Omaze Subscription. If you decide to take out a £10 subscription then the first month would be free, or with a £20 or more subscription the voucher would save you £10 in the first month. If you don't want to become a subscriber then the prize is worthless. I suppose you might be able to subscribe for one month to use the voucher and then cancel before the next month? I think the double entries bit is slightly misleading as the £10 subscription level doesn't get you double the entries, only the £20 level and above does that as you can see on the website.

There are £10 gift card prizes every draw. I have won £10 to spend on more entries with Omaze and have twice won a £10 Amazon voucher.

Your prize seems to be a bit of a ploy to get more people to sign up for subscriptions. Ok if you actually want to do that I suppose.

Edited to add that it is genuine as long as if you have logged in directly on the Omaze website, not just clicked a link in the email.
