What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve read in a Trip Advisor review?

Currently on a lovely holiday. The Trip Advisor reviews of our resort are unrecognisable. Which has inspired me to ask: what’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve read in a Trip Advisor review?

Here are mine:

That the hotel had no private beach. When it wasn’t by the sea.

That the breakfast food was all cooked on request so you couldn’t see it before you ordered it. It was a tiny boutique hotel where they cooked you anything you wanted from an extensive menu so, no, it wasn’t a buffet.

That the kitchen area had a different worktop to the granite worktop shown in the photo. Because that definitely matters if you’re on holiday and not renovating your kitchen.

That it was hypocritical to promote fitness while simultaneously pushing junk food by - wait for it - selling ice creams beside an outdoor pool.

About a Cathedral: “Full of children singing. Hideous”

I have heard tourists complaining about the hike up the Royal Mile in Edinburgh to the castle.
I'm sorry our medieval ancestors decided to protect themselves by building on top of a huge fucking volcanic rock just so your fat American butts could suffer hundreds of years later from having to walk more than 20 steps.

They were disappointed because the sand in Tenerife wasn't golden.

I worked in the tourist office in Edinburgh back in the early 90s and the complaints (it was always Americans, I’m afraid to say) about the steep walk up to the castle was a weekly occurrence. None of us ever worked out what the correct but polite response was!

One we have booked had a dead mouse outside. They posted a picture saying it was a rat! It was outside and it was a tiny mouse. The hotel responded that as they ate next to mountains there will be wildlife around. They have never had vermin and as the picture shows it is not on the premises.

If I get asked I send them up the Mound. I tend to forget there is an easier route across the North Bridge.

I always read the bad reviews, if it’s things that the hotel can’t resolve like weather or the fact that there are Spaniards in Spain then I ignore it. Sometimes though you find out things that are dealbreakers.

I once saw a review of Disneyland Paris that described it as ‘a glorified theme park full of kids’

Surely Disney is the epitome of a theme park full of kids!

It didn’t matter which way we sent them, they always complained that it was at the top of a hill 🤷‍♀️😂

Not Tripadvisor, but I once, many moons ago, spent an entire evening drunkenly reciting reviews of various M5 motorway services to Dh. I don’t even know how I found such a thing, but I was looking for a review of something and then went down a rabbit hole. Hilarious! You can only imagine the sort of people who go to the trouble of reviewing Taunton Deane services. 😂
