Asking for a friend - how many croissants a day is too many?

BrianWankum · 08/01/2025 19:20

(Obviously the friend is me!)

Went to Costco this morning. Fancied a croissant so bought one of the boxes of 12. There are only me and dd in the house, no visitors planned in the next 24 hours.

Was really hungry by the time we got out so ate one in the car on the way home (breakfast). Had two with smoked salmon for lunch. One with Nutella (keeping dd company - afternoon tea? Now making one as a cheese toastie for dinner.

Is 5 excessive? Can I get away with another toastie later?

Knock yourself out.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 08/01/2025 19:20

I think seven is the official limit

Sheepareawesome · 08/01/2025 19:21

There is no upper limit

coxesorangepippin · 08/01/2025 19:21

9 at least

saveforthat · 08/01/2025 19:22

Yes you must have another as they have to be eaten in even numbers.

Chellybelle · 08/01/2025 19:23

People will joke and pretend they eat 9 croissants in a day. In reality no one does that. As a one off it's fine though.

bifurCAT · 08/01/2025 19:28

I'd eat that if I could, I'm just scared of calories. Depending on where you get them, you're looking at 200-300 each so have a regular meal and coffee and you're at your RDA already.

StillAtTheRestaurant · 08/01/2025 19:31

Blimey. Even I would have stopped at three.

CaptainCarrotsBigSword · 08/01/2025 19:33

As a regular thing it's obviously terribly bad for you! But as a one of, sod it why not?

Though these days I think eating so many of something made with so much butter would have fairly dire consequences for my digestive system, sadly.

In Paris is obligatory! Especially the almond ones!
Next time you fancy croissants, hop on very early Eurostar, find a little boulangerie, eat 3, wonder around Le Marias, a spot shopping , now time for lunch.. more croissants ..and of course obligatory glass wine or 2, more gazing ..catch Monet at L’Orangie… oops time to head back late train… grab another 6 to eat on the train, along with some French cheese and a small bottle wine or 2.
Happy to join you.

theeyeofdoe · 08/01/2025 19:37

type ‘how to make croissants’ and see how much butter goes into them and then decide!

Well I haven't had any regular meals, I'm eating the croissants as a meal replacement plan 😁

You probably shouldn’t have gone to Costco on an empty stomach.

They are mostly air so its fine.

MrsSethGecko · 08/01/2025 19:41

I bloody love croissants. Actual love.

I'm going to have to try them with smoked salmon when I'm not on a stupid bastard diet.

JC03745 · 08/01/2025 19:41

If you don't have high cholesterol, aren't bothered by the calories- as a 1 off, do you as your please.
You've already eaten 50g of fat and nearly 6000kj (1400 calores)- just from the croissants alone, so what is a few more?

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 08/01/2025 19:41

I think as a one off there is no limit.
I don't buy food that makes me binge to that extent though as I have no off switch 😂

SleeplikeababyTonight · 08/01/2025 19:44

Haha, oh I love Costco croissants, they're the best ones. I have to freeze some, or we would just eat them all over a couple of days.

Basketballhoop · 08/01/2025 19:44

If you went back for another tray tomorrow, there might be a problem. They are best eaten fresh though, so crack on today. And don't go back tomorrow!

BrianWankum · 08/01/2025 19:45

They are mostly air so its fine.

Well that's what I thought, but I'm actually pretty full now 😀

You probably shouldn’t have gone to Costco on an empty stomach.

Wise counsel. Didn't buy anything else crazy though. Big bag of tenderstem broccoli, which will probably be the only thing I eat tomorrow! 😂

You're set then.

May I interest you in my chocolate meal replacement plan?

If you find you have any leftover here's a recipe for croissant bread and butter pudding with chocolate

And a ton of butter, may as well just smother some more on 😂
