Asking for a friend - how many croissants a day is too many?

(Obviously the friend is me!)

Went to Costco this morning. Fancied a croissant so bought one of the boxes of 12. There are only me and dd in the house, no visitors planned in the next 24 hours.

Was really hungry by the time we got out so ate one in the car on the way home (breakfast). Had two with smoked salmon for lunch. One with Nutella (keeping dd company - afternoon tea? Now making one as a cheese toastie for dinner.

Is 5 excessive? Can I get away with another toastie later?

'c) they are strict with mealtimes and don't snack in between, except the designated snack times.'

So no snacking, unless at a designated time, got it. 😂

jollygreenpea · 08/01/2025 22:35

When I was pregnant I would have eaten all 12.

mynameiscalypso · 08/01/2025 22:38

I am getting a lot of very good ideas about what to have with croissants from this thread.

ttcat37 · 08/01/2025 22:43

I think one is the normal number but I don’t think the police will come for you even if you eat the whole box.

ZippyDoodle · 08/01/2025 22:44

They're very high in fat as they're made with butter.

If you don't care about your heart or your thighs I'd just crack and eat the whole packet. Flowers

warmheartcoldfeet · 08/01/2025 22:45

really really want a croissant now

arghhhhh

Defiantlynot41 · 08/01/2025 22:52

@JustAboutMuddlingThrough where was this? Also coeliac and have not yet found a GF croissant worth the calories, they're usually horrible. I'm sure @KvotheTheBloodless will be interested too. Apparently MannaDew bakery are good but stupidly expensive (like £5 each) and you have to order in advance and they come in the post, so not an impulse "I fancy a croissant " buy.

For those concerned about calories, Commercially made croissants are highly unlikely to contain as much butter as those recipes

Iwishicouldflyhigh · 08/01/2025 23:08

That would make me feel rank.

It sounds weird, but it's true. They don't randomly snack through the day. 4pm is sweet snack time, particularly for children but ok for adults. And pre-dinner, around 6pm-7pm, is savoury snack time (aperitif).

Eldermillenialyogi · 08/01/2025 23:17

You may as well eat them now you've bought them

MumChp · 08/01/2025 23:22

Carry on.
"To many" doesn't make sense!

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 08/01/2025 23:28

@BrianWankum I actually buy the jusrol ones in a can for my grandaughter. bake one in the morning for her breakfast but you have to roll them up and I always end up with some mishapen snake rather than a croissant! she is skinny and we are trying to build her up. on the baking paper after it has cooled it actually hardens and you can see the butter!!

My mum and her sisters bought a dozen to share once. I ate them all and they went mental at me.

Three cross aunts are plenty.

Edited

🤣🤣🤣

Lafee · 09/01/2025 01:01

Oooops!
I can see that my three laughing emoji's are a repeat of another pp ...

I honestly didn't realise til I carried on scrolling.

It definitely caused a wry smile..

Love them myself, and in my case, once that cellophane has been opened, it's difficult to seal it up again to eat the other half "later"....
..... so rather than eat improperly sealed croissants the next day, do them justice, and enjoy them at their flakiest best.

In ops case, she's more than making up for it, with the big bag of broccoli... she'll be super healthy tomorrow having binged on the green stuff 🤭

Damnloginpopup · 09/01/2025 09:22

I'm holding you responsible OP. This is the remnants of my diet.

Was. Past tense now.

LovelyDaaling · 09/01/2025 09:24

Two per day max, they are loaded with fat

LoveSandbanks · 09/01/2025 09:24

BrianWankum · 08/01/2025 19:38

Well I haven't had any regular meals, I'm eating the croissants as a meal replacement plan 😁

It’s the Parisian version of the special k diet

BahHumbug24 · 09/01/2025 09:38

I'm like you OP and get totally obsessed by a food - could be anything, I'd do the same. Go wild they won't stay fresh forever.

Ilovemyshed · 09/01/2025 17:24

They are amazing warmed in a panini grill with a slice of cheese inside.

Cryingatthegym · 09/01/2025 17:33

I'm envious. Pastries are my favourite food. And I've definitely done similar when I've bought a big pack of croissants that the rest of the family have ignored. Croissants for breakfast, lunch & dinner Grin

Bjorkdidit · 09/01/2025 17:34

Air fryers were also made for baking or reheating pastries, which I don't like unless freshly baked or at least had a few minutes crisping up.
