Asking for a friend - how many croissants a day is too many?

BrianWankum · 08/01/2025 19:20

(Obviously the friend is me!)

Went to Costco this morning. Fancied a croissant so bought one of the boxes of 12. There are only me and dd in the house, no visitors planned in the next 24 hours.

Was really hungry by the time we got out so ate one in the car on the way home (breakfast). Had two with smoked salmon for lunch. One with Nutella (keeping dd company - afternoon tea? Now making one as a cheese toastie for dinner.

Is 5 excessive? Can I get away with another toastie later?

type ‘how to make croissants’ and see how much butter goes into them and then decide!

I was going to say the same!

InfoSecInTheCity · 08/01/2025 19:48

Or raspberry croissant cheesecakes

Make a bread and butter pudding with the rest

Hoppinggreen · 08/01/2025 19:49

They do come in packs of 4 so at least that

user3827 · 08/01/2025 19:50

I would have bad reflux after 1. So I'm jealous

SizzlingPrickle · 08/01/2025 20:05

The problem is if you have 5 today, you’ll need to eat the remaining 7 tomorrow.. I’d prefer to be even Stephen’s and go with 6 today and 6 tomorrow.

CalicoPusscat · 08/01/2025 20:10

I could eat 2 but no more than that. I like them warmed with jam and clotted cream.

But yeah just eat what you want up to your tolerance level!

Thought dd might pull her weight tbh! (She's 22, I'm not overfeeding a 5 year old 😄)

Adore croissants but they have put more weight on me than anything else. I hate that they’re cakes- why can the French eat them for breakfast and still be svelte?!

soupfiend · 08/01/2025 20:17

They're incredibly light though arent they? I mean they're like eating nothing

RoseDog · 08/01/2025 20:18

I've eaten so many croissants this week I've actually put myself off them...it was a random craving!

I'll be off them for a few months then binge them again!

Damnloginpopup · 08/01/2025 20:20

My mum and her sisters bought a dozen to share once. I ate them all and they went mental at me.

Three cross aunts are plenty.

newtlover · 08/01/2025 20:21

wait, wtf?

clotted cream on a croissant???
that's just wrong, wrong, wrong (Liz Truss voice)
cultural appropriation at the very least

bloodredfeaturewall · 08/01/2025 20:21

personal daily limit is 3 damn you gallbladder
but if they agree with you, knock yourself out.

They are mostly air so its fine.

Well that's what I thought, but I'm actually pretty full now 😀

You probably shouldn’t have gone to Costco on an empty stomach.

Wise counsel. Didn't buy anything else crazy though. Big bag of tenderstem broccoli, which will probably be the only thing I eat tomorrow! 😂

And there we have it. The drip feed. A big bag of broccoli. YABVVU. What kind of sick person are you?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 08/01/2025 20:23

As they are 'pointy' at both ends they are not as substantial as one might first think.
In fact the mass of a croissant is similar to a peppermint Aero but with less calories. (This is not my assessment mind, but has been extrapolated from Galileo's experiment's based on rolling balls (!!!) on inclined planes.)

If you recall from your school days; Mass = Density x Volume or 12 croissants.

That's not cultural appropriation. It's what's known as an entente cordiale, I believe.

BrianWankum · 08/01/2025 20:26

😂Very good!

when Pregnant croissants were the only thing I could eat - had 3 for each meal. So 9.

ApplesinmyPocket · 08/01/2025 20:46

I remember BonsoirAnna (of ye olden MN times) telling us that no French person would dream of having more than ONE croissant at breakfast. She was very svelte I believe, and I am less svelte, possibly due to my two-croissant habit.

Ginkypig · 08/01/2025 20:53

😂😂😂

I mean it’s a lot of calories which is what I think when I’m eating them so I don’t have them very often if I’m telling the truth BUT as a one off type of thing your food diary for today sounds delightful!

the croissant replacement diet 👌 chef’s kiss

but as another poster has mentioned you are playing with fire leaving 7 for tomorrow! It definitely should be 6 today and 6 tomorrow!

then none at all for at least 6-8months!

Turophilic · 08/01/2025 20:59

why can the French eat them for breakfast and still be svelte?!

It's the black coffee and cigarettes instead of all the other meals.

I had a freshly baked croissant from Betty's of Harrogate when at a tour of the factory for a thing I was doing. Still warm. Greatest croissant of my life.
