Do people still do this? Part of me wants to do this... But maybe I'll get bored of one every Sunday?

I do something I call a midweek roast, which is a one-tray affair that goes in the oven for 1h.

Chicken breasts, lamb shanks etc, roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, onion, then steamed cabbage and peas.

That's the only version I could do once a week.

When my son's a bit older, I do want to do a monthly roast with crumble for pudding.

Roughly once a month as we are often out on a Sunday.

We go through phases in the winter (our kitchen gets too hot in the summer) of having one every week. We like our own roast more than any we’ve ever had eating out. But we’ve just discovered a really nice carvery five minutes up the road so have been there quite a bit recently. DH is fine with cooking each week, but we both hate cleaning up all the mess afterwards, so a carvery will do until we start craving our own roast potatoes and stuffing again.

I dont do a roast every week (although do love a roast) but I do try and do a 'nice' meal on a sunday so a roast or a lasagne or fish pie etc.

My mum did, all throughout her marriage. Every single week. After dad died she has never cooked another one and never will: she'd fucking loathed being chained to the kitchen for the same kind of thing week in, week out.

I think I've cooked perhaps one per year since I moved out, although it's my favourite meal. I associate cooking it with being a total slog.

It really is as simple as CraftyGin says, bung the meat in the oven, peel some potatoes and prepare some veg, open a bottle of red, deglaze the pan to make gravy while the meat is resting. My DP and I both do the work, takes very little time, I mean effort.

Loving the meme.

happy Sunday! Roast chicken for us later, all the vegetables were peeled and prepped this morning by my (male) partner, we’ve been out for a nice walk and haven’t got anything in the oven yet but will be having 9 round the table for a nice roast and I think maybe I’ll do a crumble, no stress is needed!

We have a roast most Sundays all year round unless there’s a heatwave. We have lighter sides in the summer though like green beans, new potatoes, etc. I’ve recently started batch cooking sides which is a game changer; makes it much easier to knock a roast up on a busy Sunday!
