I could cry - my bloody teeth

Last night I started with toothache it was an intense throbbing and I knew something wasn't right. I managed to get some sleep and when I woke the pain was not so bad. My dentist is open today and I managed to get an appointment.
I've got an infection in a tooth that has previously had a root canal.

I've been prescribed anti biotics and I'm to go back next week for either, an extraction or root canal. Unfortunately I'm private and the cost of root canal is extortionate. Dentist did say antibiotics might work and I could leave it but infection is likely to return.

I could cry I am really dentist phobic and the thought of having my tooth extracted is freaking me out. It's a lower pre molar. I'm getting intermittent pain today and I've not needed painkillers until now all day. I've had upper molars removed that weren't too bad when being extracted.

I am gutted - about 8 years ago I got an abscess around the same time after Christmas and here I am again.

I've had three other back obes removed over the past 15 years or so, so I kind of know it's actually going to be ok! Still bloody horrible waiting.
It's at 3 pm. I'm working in the morning, so I will be a bundle of laughs for sure!

Well at least you'll be distracted in the morning at work. Once you have been to the dentist, go home and get settled watching some crap on the tv and rest for the rest of the day.

Try antibiotics and bi-daily salt water mouth rinses first.

@Intheoldendays thinking of you!!

Thanks!! I was told to eat so I am forcing a bit of pizza down me - although I'm too anxious to really. Diazepam at 2.....

Did you just leaves the gaps? Has it been ok to adjust to that?

Sorry. Just seen this!! Yes I did. One can be seen slightly when I laugh but on the whole there have been no issues

Definitely force some food down. I didn't and was ravenous later on. Soup and scrambled eggs just didn't hit the spot

Panicking about bleeding and everything else now of course...

Thehouseisatip · 15/01/2025 16:18

I hear you. I'm forever prodding and poking at my teeth as it is but I left the socket alone for a good week of not longer. Tomorrow just start with salt water rinse, don't swish it though tomorrow just let it sit where the socket is.

NO don't! I went 3/4 days I think before I caved. Try and go at least 24 hours, I just went to bed then it took the temptation away.

Had two nurofen plus and a 'protein yoghurt' and feel ok. No bleeding that I can see. I'm being so super cautious.

Forgot to say that the diazepam was particularly brilliant today - everything was hilarious (until the injection). Poor dh was shushing me in the waiting room!

Hopefully you won't need a lot of pain relief. I think I only took it for the first day and then i didn't need it.
Diazepam sounds wonderful!

Bored of 'protein yoghurt pots' already!! Little pain and I'm not looking at it so assuming all is ok!
Main irritant is that I don't feel able to go to my rehearsal tonight - I'm in a play and it's the highlight of my week! I don't want to risk talking and chucking myself across the stage for the sake of it all falling apart.
Bah

Intheoldendays · 19/01/2025 15:27

Hopefully final update! It's day 5 and all seems well. I'm managing soft things like moussaka and fish with potatoes (er...yay!). Been religious about salt washes and careful cleaning, so hoping to put it all behind me and have NO MORE teeth out!!

Thehouseisatip · 19/01/2025 15:48

If your on day 5 with no problems I'd say you're safe!
I've only just started eating food on the side where the tooth was taken out!
It's got the tiniest of holes there now.

I lost weight 🥳 when I was eating only soft foods I've probably piled it back on now though 😔

OP posts:
Intheoldendays · 19/01/2025 16:30

Yep. Hoping that it will all continue to be ok!!! I'm talking a bit strangely still...but otherwise ! Phew

Thehouseisatip · 19/01/2025 16:54

I keep drooling 😂 the corner of my mouth sort of keeps sitting in the space and if I'm not careful I dribble a little bit. I also can't pronounce some words properly 🙄

Intheoldendays · 19/01/2025 17:33

Oops! It takes an annoying amount of time for sure

Oh you poor thing. I had a mouth abscess for the first time just after Christmas and took antibiotics. I felt so sick the whole time taking them. I had to find a private dentist who said it may come back and I may lose the tooth. I went to see my NHS dentist the next week and she doubts it will come back and she won't remove the tooth unless there is no other option.

So I'm just hoping it doesn't come back.

See how you feel once you complete the course. I felt like a different person after them.
