What's the longest you've been without a haircut?

I've just realised I haven't had my hair cut for a VERY long time. Does it matter though?

A couple of years, I would guess. I don’t think it’s recommended but I hardly think it’s the end of the world!

MamaWeasel · 21/12/2024 20:24

3yrs ish.

rosemole · 21/12/2024 20:26

That's about how long it's been for me too. And it's hardly grown. What's the deal with split ends?

End of 2019
I cut it myself now
🥲

Over covid.

Well you aren't going to get ill from not having it done but a good trim will make it look better and it'll be in better state so will tangle less etc if long. It's also useful to go to the hairdresser's as they can point out and keep an eye on any moles etc you have in your hair that you wouldn't otherwise know about.

Don't be ridiculous
Hairdressers are not there to look out for moles 😂😂

About three years. I wanted long hair and it was in decent condition so didn't see any reason to. It went from shoulder length to bum length in that time.

If yours isn't growing it's probably just breaking off at a certain point every time (often shoulder length as that's where it gets friction).

This makes sense, thanks! I miss my long hair so maybe time for a trim then

I thought the lack of growth was peri related but it could be a combo of factors.
I was thinking maybe I needed to start taking supplements (would prefer not to though)

My hair looked shite after 3 years

Cut my own now and so glad I looped of inches of aging nasty hair

5 years! 😱

November 2019 to November 2024.

I didn't go for a while because of covid/the lockdowns, then I went to go again around mid 2022, and the prices had doubled. So I thought 'I'm not paying £55 for a haircut! (And £125 for highlights.) And because there were only 2 hairdressers in my tiny market town - and the other one was just as expensive - I started doing it myself. (Cutting, and colouring, and bleaching!)

But by November this year, 5 years of no proper haircuts, and bleaching and dying my hair had taken its toll, and my hair was a hot mess. A new hairdressing and beauty salon opened around July this year, (in my little market town,) and their prices were very reasonable. So I booked myself in last month.

Had about 6" to 8" cut off, and it's 10 times better now. Shorter/2-3" below the ears, but it looks good, it's got its natural dark blonde colour back, (which I'm keeping,) and it's got its lovely soft curls back too! Smile

.

HPandthelastwish · 21/12/2024 20:36

@Fleurdalys yours might not do but mine does at least when you go regularly and she knows you. My mum has short hair so goes every 6 weeks, our hairdresser noticed several moles that seemed to have changed for my mum, she went to the GP who sent her to get them checked out as she had a previous history of cancerous moles, one of them they weren't happy about so removed.

wastingtimeonhere · 21/12/2024 20:38

It's probably about 6 years, in the 90s. We were skint, I couldn't afford to go to hairdressers. I grew it long and tied it back. I hated it.

Simonjt · 21/12/2024 20:39

I’m a Sikh, so I don’t generally cut mine, I had to cut it about six years ago as I had a scalp injury and the area that needed shaving was in my parting so it looked awful and stood out. It hasn’t been cut since. I was 16 the first time my hair was ever cut.

So how the hell do you cut your own hair (unless you've had training)?

The only thing I've done to it is lop off a straggly bit I found at the back that was much longer than the rest. It looked like a rat's tail. Don't know why I haven't sorted it properly tbh.

4 months 🤣 I have crappy, fine hair though. It looks a state if I don't have a regular trim. I'd love to have hair that didn't need constant maintenance.

fredshair · 21/12/2024 20:42

The last time I went to a hairdresser was pre-Covid, probably in 2019. I've cut it myself since then, although it's not been cut at all since 2022. It's fine, the ends aren't neat but they get tucked into a bun so nobody sees. It's long and straight and doesn't get tangled, and in good condition as I never use heat tools. I'm not sure I will go to a hairdresser ever again tbh, I don't enjoy it.

Fleurdalys · 21/12/2024 20:43

@ rose mole
Easy peasy
I have straight hair
Two ponytails either side
Lop off with decent scissors
Get my eldest to even up the back
Shoulder length bob
Job done with a decent blow dry

It gets dry, frizzy and too many grays; So needs a bit of trimming , care hair and highlights...natural blending of the grays.

InWalksBarberalla · 21/12/2024 20:44

Mines coming up to 3 years and definitely starting to look straggly at the ends. I just hate the hairdressers though and it's summer here so I'll wait until after the sun and surf has done its damage and then bite the bullet and get the ends lopped off.

I think that's why I haven't booked an appointment. I don't like the magazines, smell, waiting around, chit chat and looking in a mirror for ages at myself looking like a hag 🤣

I'm always cutting my long side fringe too

Fleurdalys · 21/12/2024 20:46

Absolutely hate hate hairdressers
🥹

johnyhadasister · 21/12/2024 20:47

My hair gets tangled and dried up without me even using bleach. The last one was very long and got caught in the shower and from waist legthended up under the neck. It was that badly caught. It has grown since and is now just under the top shoulder line on the back. I had it super short in my teen years and 20s, had it bleached and on a dark bob, had it red.....honestly, do not care ..had it once even made to look like a man.

SoySaucy · 21/12/2024 20:47

I haven’t had mine cut at the hairdressers since 2016 (before I got pregnant with dc1)
Ive tried to give it a trim myself at home in the years since but I’m no hairdresser.

i have horrible thin hair anyway so it looks a bit straggly wether a hairdresser cuts it or I do it myself (literally no difference at all!) and we can’t afford it so 🤷‍♀️
