I am, I know it's a slow process but it's going to get lighter!

Yes please. I am a gym person. So would be nice for it to be lighter when I leave the gym in the morning. Sure if would brighten my mood

slightlydistrac · 21/12/2024 17:18

Yuletide Greetings @Washywishy

Might have to crack open the chocolate Yule log later.😁

SunnieShine · 21/12/2024 17:20

I love dark evenings

ProbableDoris · 21/12/2024 17:21

Yes! I’m delighted to get past this point! Even saw some daffs flowering this morning (am in Cornwall, it’s normal) and had a glimpse of spring. I know it’s ages away still, but the solstice feels like turning a corner into the light.

WillowTit · 21/12/2024 17:21

yes, i have been impatiently waiting for this day
things can only get better!

caramac04 · 21/12/2024 17:22

Yes! I love to know we are through the darkest phase.

I love dark evenings

Yeah, it's cosy but they don't have to start at 3pm!!

I hadn't even realised it was @Washywishy - so thank you for that!!!

hopeishere · 21/12/2024 17:23

Me!! Can't wait for lighter nights.

eastcoasterly · 21/12/2024 17:23

I love the darker mornings and evenings, slightly sad that they're coming to an end. I'll feel like you when the longest day rolls around though 😄

HermoinePotter · 21/12/2024 17:24

Me! I can’t wait until the nights get slowly lighter, I love light nights and lighter mornings. I’m not a winter person at all. I noticed my daffodils peeping through in the garden earlier and it made me feel that spring isn’t too far away now.

Waitingfordoggo · 21/12/2024 17:24

Yes, I always feel a psychological 'lift' on the shortest day. Even though I always subsequently realise that January and February are very looong months and it actually takes ages to start noticing the increased daylight! But nonetheless, yes I like the shortest day, it feels like a significant point.

ThePoshUns · 21/12/2024 17:24

Yes, it's so dark and horrid. Can't wait for brighter days.

Me too! Can't wait for spring. I hate the dark nights n mornings, defrosting the car, not being able to get washing dry etc

Fireworknight · 21/12/2024 17:31

Yes, I have a silent little cheer, and feel it’s the start of the countdown until Spring, even though we have January and February to get through first.

OfDragonsDeep · 21/12/2024 17:31

So pleased! I like it light at 4am and dark at 9.30pm. Wish we could have that all year round.

MrsSethGecko · 21/12/2024 17:33

Yes I am! I love the light. I can deal with the cold if there's more light.

CluelessAboutBiology · 21/12/2024 17:33

I’ve been counting down the days to today, knowing that it’s going to (very gradually) start getting lighter. I hate going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark.
the best time of the year is in spring, when the clocks go forward.

Collette78 · 21/12/2024 17:36

Me! I like the indicator that we are getting through winter … Roll on March when we get ready for summer!

OneAmplePearlKoala · 21/12/2024 17:36

Absolutely.
I always start to feel like I’ve beaten winter when we get here. I know winter has only officially started today but we have Christmas to brighten this darkest week and then every day after that is a tiny bit lighter and the snowdrops will be out before we know it.

Daffs? Pah! I've got some confused strawberry plants flowering in my garden (am in Bedfordshire, it's not normal). They must have taken leave of their senses...

Spidey66 · 21/12/2024 17:38

Me!!! I could (reluctantly) deal with the cold weather in winter...at least you can wrap up. I hate the dark. We've got a dog and if we want to take her to the park for her evening walk, it has to be done by 4pm otherwise it's round the streets.

Festivefeet · 21/12/2024 17:39

I'm the opposite - I prefer winter as a season, so I secretly* celebrate on the longest day because I know the days will be getting shorter.

*Secretly because not many people share my joy. Smile

Laiste · 21/12/2024 17:40

Yes YES YES !! Me!

The dark is getting me down. It's hard to drive the muddy narrow lanes round here in the dark with the full beams on and the holes and the rain.

Hooray for the light (my username celebrates light)

RandomMess · 21/12/2024 17:41

Yep the only way is up, baby.

If the rain would stop every other day that would help too 😬

PollyCreo · 21/12/2024 17:42

Oh god yes! I don't live in the UK and we have longer days in the winter than you do (light at 06.30 and dark at 17.00) but I still need my daylight so I can charge 😎

Sunrise is still getting later though, I go for a run in the morning before work and it won't start getting lighter for another for couple of weeks 😳
